Struggling to see who we could get in Jan.
We need some experience in attack to help these developing youngsters, Feghouli is out of contract in the summer, should be at cut price in Jan and would be worth a punt. Good technically, comfortable on the right and fairly pacey.
Mane/Mahrez would bring a spark but are still developing themselves.
As for no.9's, they are even harder to acquire.

I'd seriously consider Lukaku. Would cost a fair whack but I think he'd be attainable. I'd really like a big, strong, quick focal point to our attack. He's completely unplayable on his day and I think he'd suit our style of play more than most.

As would I but with TV money coming in lesser clubs can afford to hold onto a player, even if they kick up a fuss they can still hold on these days. Finding someone who scores goals is the toughest to recruit, even tougher in Jan, I really can't see Everton going for it even if we offer a ludicrous sum.
Same with Kane and Spurs.

I still think money talks, megabucks are still unlikely to be turned down but I guess you're right about it being unlikely to happen in January.
Who's out there then who would be attainable? Any others with contracts coming to an end? Anyone not getting much first team football that could be worth a punt?

Left Back - a decent actual left back, not playing someone out of position (Blind kinda can play LB as can Rojo but it ain't their natural position either), also someone who can be a backup LB to Shaw when he comes back, i'd go with Ashley Cole here
Backup Right Back - Valera isn't a backup, he's a third string at best at this stage and honestly needs a loan out of the club. We need to sort this out.
Out and Out #10 goalscoring machine: take your pick, Aubameyang, Kane, Lewandowski, Lacazette, we need goals.
A world class creator or a any world class player if they come onto the market: if we should be so lucky, maybe someone will want out of a club, hell maybe James Rodriguez decides enough is enough and moves in january, we should be the first club on that, in fact it is probably the only instance i would be ok offering Mata + cash in an exchange (ideally you would keep both because Mata + Rodriguez as a creative force feeding to a proper goalscorer is money)

I think we need to find a n°9 this January. It will add depth, give Rooney some real competition, and allow us to position Martial on the left, his best position at the moment. I don't believe we need a world class forward so to speak. I believe we need to find the adequate forward for the system we're playing. When I look at the way we play, I believe we lack a strong, fast and powerful finisher. There aren't that many available out there in January, and the only one I can think of are Lukaku and to another extent Aubameyang.
But more than a n°9, I also believe we need a proper and real quality n°10 if we're going to continue playing with 2 sitting and static CM. One of our weakness is that we haven't quite a mobile player able to play quickly bewteen lines, make through balls and add that bit of unpredictability. Herrera for some reason isn't going to be played there by the manager. Someone with a similar profile as Coutinho would be ideal imo.

I agree about another left back, frees Rojo up to be solely a central defender. Depends who you can get though, who's good enough and wouldn't mind being backup to Shaw. I'd leave right back for the time-being though, we're well covered and I think Varela has potential. In a full strength defence he'd have more of a chance to get bedded in. He showed some good stuff vs Wolfsburg, looks a bit like Rafa did at a similar age good and aggressive in the tackle and good going forward but lacks maturity and is a bit rash at times, have to take into consideration it's only his 2nd ever start for us and in shitty circumstances due to injuries.
I think some of the attacking options mentioned are a little unrealistic for January.

Charlie Austin  I think Ibra's and Lavezzi's come to the end in the summer, not sure about of either them though. No idea and I've no clue who'd LVG go for style wise, like you said the other day maybe Lacazette, Berahino(fairly young), Alex Texeira seems to be open to a move but he's more of a 10 and would cost a fair whack. Its going to be difficult in the summer to bring top players in as well, the calibre of which we need anyway, the only top world class man who might be on the move is Ronaldo. If I'm honest I see us getting a full back, wide man and possibly another upcoming youngster this Jan. The rest I think we'll have to wait for.

Lacazette really interests me. His situation means he'll be easier to get than most in Jan as well although I've since read he signed a new deal at the beginning of the season but they're out of Europe and there's some conflict there. Someone said he's had injury problems but looking at his record he's played enough games over the last 2 and a half seasons.
I wouldn't be against us going for an older, more experienced striker either. If RVP or Falcao had produced anything last season they'd still be here and why I don't think we've missed them as players, we've missed someone in a similar mould. Ibra comes to mind but he's too old even if he's scored 14 in 17 this season, plus, being out of the Champions League will probably put off someone like him.
What's going on with Benzema at the minute? I know there's been some problems at Madrid with him. Again a player of that calibre is going to be tough to get in January though.
Pato's name keeps getting thrown about. Amazing talent when he was younger but it'd be a massive punt to think he's fulfilled his potential after going back to Brazil. He'd be easy enough to get I imagine.
Hulk? Full of power and speed but comes across as a mercenary after turning down top European clubs to go to Russia. But he has the attributes we'd be looking for.
I'm just gonna go and do some footie manager scouting to try and find a striker.

I know we won't be getting either in this next window, but a Lewadowski or Muller type of striker would suit our current style of play I think. Both can play on or off and across the front line and are both good in the air along with being being big, strong lads to improve our power upfront.

I'm not normally one for getting carried away with players in form but I really think we should be looking at Mahrez. He's doing everything for Leicester on that right hand side that we expect and don't see Mata doing for us.

Mahrez is seriously talented and should be monitored if not approached, he is as you say Jamie doing everything Mata should be doing for us on the right and would add speed a d unpredictability to the side as well as creativity.
I know we aren't creating that many chances and I feel part of it is because we don't have a striker that can stay in the box so for that reason I think we should take a punt on Mario Gomez. he is experienced and probably a better version of Hernandez and would get us goals and he seems to always be in the right position to score goals. I know he is not the big, fast and creative forward we all agree that we need but he could add something to the side like Fellaini

Iscos name keeps floating around the Spanish press that he could be up for grabs at €40m with Shity and Arsenil the interested parties. Won't get us 20 goals a season but behind Iñiesta my favourite Spanish player. Not the quickest but doesn't need to be when he's so much skill. One player I'd love to see in a United shirt.
