In some things, not others; Rooney's goal scoring record is better, he's a lot more physical and direct, gives presence and energy, and slightly quicker. Not as intelligent positioning and sly passing wise, but still not bad. Swings and roundabouts, both could do a slightly different job in that role. Recent goal scoring record and assists strongly favours Mata. Don't misunderstand me, Rooney is a legend but at the present time he is not living up to his image. If we want what's best for MU, then Mata is the obvious choice. What's best for United and the manager is to get Rooney back in form and scoring again, you only do that by playing him and making his job easier.

Exactly what I was thinking - Rooney in form is exactly the type of player we need. And since Van Gaal is not gonna drop him anyway, I'm starting to think we might wanna try putting him and Martial together up front as a duo, might rub some talent on him
