It's something I'd try, a 442, not saying I'd stick with it but I'd certainly want to see what kind of partnership they could forge. VG won't go for that tho.
Unless he can get them to seamlessly interchange left and centre, but that takes time and a lot of understanding, won't happen overnight.

Frustrated not to have come away from that game with all 3 points, but when the seasons all said and done, a draw against City will look a decent result.

MOTD did a piece on Fernando-inho combo and Martial, nothing on us nullifying De Bruyne who they've all been wanking over.
On Roo's position, not sure what the fuss is about, he was behind Martial against Arsenal it didn't work, we've had tough games so LVG has adjusted. Come Palace he'll likely be back behind with Herrera on the bench.

One thing I can't stand is the past players who played under Fergie always complaining about the style of play yet always manage to find an excuse for Rooney be it Scholes, Gary Neville (even though he hasn't critiqued the style of play). Why is it so hard for everyone at the club to see his decline?
Good match, we could have won it if it wasn't for the lack of penetration upfront and Wayne holding us back. I feel like if Silva had played it might have been more open for us since Yaya would have not done what Fernando did. Rojo and Schneiderlin were the standout players for me, it makes me wonder if Morgan wouldn't have made a difference against Arsenal last month.

Though everyone played well bar Rooney. Also believe we should have gad a peno for the challange on Herrera by sterling.

Yeah it was a tough one the peno. It was just a tangling of legs but I've definitely seen them given. A different ref would've given it.

We need Martial up top, if the only way to do that is by dropping Herrera then when push comes to shove he'll have to be sacrificed for me.

One game with an entire team off form against Arsenal doesn't make a concerted effort tho. At the end of the day you want Martial running into the box attacking defenders, using his pace, preferably centrally as much as humanly possible, with Rooney or Mata or Herrera following in behind / around pairing him. Rooney and Mata are suited to that role more than Herrera and Rooney offers more presence and strength than Mata. Swings and roundabouts.
Which will require re-shaping the team and someone losing out.
Something will have to give as we come into the xmas period tho if his lack of goals continues. You can see he's slowly losing his legs too, good job he's got his strength.

Our best player for the season so far is Mata. I don't knoow what LVG has against him. He keeps substituting him or exclude him completely as he did in Moscow. I believe our best formation (with what we have now) is De Gea, Rojo, Blind, Smalling, Valencia (better attacking option than Darmian, although the latter is the better right back), Schneiderlin, Fellaini (great ball control and composure), Herrera, Mata, Young and Marital. Rooney should be benched for a while. The philosophy of LVG got him booted from Bayern as his tactics were deemed too slow for the liking of the board. Love him or hate him, he gets resuls. The fast-flowing United of the past is gone for now, maybe until Giggs becomes our number ome. I still do not think that we will win the league this season, Man City (****) are too strong. We will finish second, ahead of the gunners, but next year, with a couple of additions, we should have no excuses.

I don't think Rooney is done Neither do I, but right now he is lucky we don't have an extra quality striker or he would be benched. I don't see how he can take Herrera's place either. Herrera's been very good.

Loved that Gary Neville imput, that's what I was thinking the whole game. There were a couple quiet moments in the second half between 50 and 70th minute, but I still think it was great quality football, very tactical display. Of course everyone would have loved a goal show, but I wasn't bored at all. Think a draw was pretty fair too, both teams showed some great things, City had a couple good chances, we had a couple...might be my bias talking I think United edged by a hair with Lingard and Smalling's shots. We would need a lot more if we're to be fighting for a title, after all this was City without their best players. We need Martial up top, if the only way to do that is by dropping Herrera then when push comes to shove he'll have to be sacrificed for me. Agree with that Dave.

The idea of Herrera in central midfield has grown on me to be honest. He's full of energy, has a great range of passing and likes to get stuck in, I think in time he could be a Schweinsteiger type where he controls the whole flow of the game. Wouldn't mind seeing him and Schneiderlin as a pairing at some point.

That's the thing for me - he hasn't nailed down his position just yet, that's what's making him the most likely to get subbed off. That doesn't mean he's playing bad by all means, just that he's a non-specific type of midfielder - can play wherever.
