City XI: Hart, Sagna, Kompany (C), Otamendi, Kolarov, Fernando, Fernandinho, Toure, Sterling, De Bruyne, Bony
Kompany in as expected but City beefing up their midfield.

yip, got the pace to stay with him at least, provided that's all he does, ie put him off and nullify, job done.

I am ok with the team but Martial out wide is not ideal imo. It may have worked against Everton but I want to see him as no. 9.

Physical City team, very much defensive minded, made to play on the counter.
But I really like our team. Schmidfield and Herrera to keep the ball and dictate the game, strong and powerful back 4, and a very capable front-4. Hopefully Rooney is in good form, because that could be the decisive factor from my perspective.
Should be a good game.

oh ffs why the fuck are we starting rooney at the 10, just start martial up front already ffs
i hope smalling at least can keep bony in his pocket, LVG stop being a stubborn prick and drop rooney, or at least keep him in and not play him at the 10, Martial has been the key man for us and does his best work as a #10.
any other game, please, any other game but the derby to try play rooney into some sort of good form

I'll take that. Both teams were absolutely superb at the back and barely made a mistake. We dominated possession and were without doubt the better team. We could have nicked it with 2 great chances at the end and if Rooney wasn't so fucking ineffective.
Martial was great again, he caused them all sorts of problems up the left and his pass for Lingard's chance was sublime. My man of the match though, is Rojo. He was fantastic, had De Bruyne in his pocket all afternoon.
Rooney the only negative yet again. It's starting to get tiresome. Everybody can see we'd be a better team without him taking up a space on the pitch and would carry more threat going forward. Played his part defensively in the last 5 minutes though.
Today we've seen 2 quality sides, both unwilling to give an inch to the other just cancel each other out. I actually found it thoroughly entertaining.

Same here, looking around the web seems people thought that was a snooze fest, I thoroughly enjoyed that, two even teams battling it out.
Two teams who didn't want to lose, superb defending from both sides closing off space and cutting out passes. We nullified City's attack, the back four was brilliant with Schneiderlin mopping up in front. Plus we edged the chances and probably should have and could have won it with Lingard so unlucky.
The attacking play in the final third wasn't good enough but again credit to the defending, I would have liked to see Martial swap with Rooney for a bit but a great performance all round given our trip in midweek.

Entertaining enough first half but to be honest the second bored the tits off me until Lingard tried his luck. Both teams looked like they were happy with the draw and that's what we got. Feel we could of done more even though it's been a hard week for the players. No Agüero, no Silva. Yaya playing worse than Rooney, Rojo controlling the De Byrne threat pretty well. Wilfried looking lost they were there for the taking. We played the same way as in the Moscow game which is why I don't think tiredness had a lot to do with it. Playing the possession game without getting players in the box won't score us goals. Teams have now wised up to Martial. Two games in a row now the opposition have doubled and sometimes tripled up on him. He's still obviously a class act but the one true talent we have is being stifled. I wanted him to play on the left but to be honest even though he played great there for France for United he can't do it on his own. Rooney is holding the whole team back and while we continue with him it's going to be more or less the same. Ed said if Martial played up front we would of won and I agree with him. The big question is how much longer do we have to endure Rooney in the team?

Until we get some more quality in attack.

On the game: I think Pellegrini got what he wanted: a draw. And I think LVG was too cautious to get a win. I really don't get the negative review given by some media. I really enjoyed the game: both teams were superb defensively, the callenges were strong & direct but fair, no refereeing mistakes, some good moves at times, just two teams doing their jobs in a very professional way. The two teams didn't want to lose and it showed.
on Rooney: I agree with the general consensus on here that Rooney is holding us back at this point although he had a better game (but only decent at best, let's be honest). The problem is: how do you place him on the bench? LVG apparently has big balls, but how big are they, really? And who do you buy that gets into our starting line up? Personally, I really like Martial on the left flank. With Martial, Young, Depay, Mata, Lingard, and potentially Januzaj, I think we're well covered. I would much rather invest in that n°9 beast. But who would be reallistically available ?

I don't think Rooney is done, there's loads of goals in him yet. I think Hoddle is right tho, Martial should be up front as main striker and Rooney to play off him. You don't need to panic or sign anyone yet.

What happens with Herrera then? Play him in a 2 man midfield?
