I don't think we had a bad 20 minutes, shit happens, let's move on really gets to the problem. I think it should be analyzed a little more
Let's take the front 4 as an example. With them there's no rotation. They basically know they're going to be starting every game so they're either getting complacent, lazy, can't be arsed or they're confused on what their role actually is. I've got nothing but high praise for Martial since he came, he's rejuvenated us in attack but yesterday even he looked liked he couldn't be arsed in trying to get involved. I'm not blaming him but what is it about our forwards that gives that impression? Or is it just me?
Every man and his dog knows that Sanchez is the danger man for Arsenil. What did we do to try and stop him? Nothing is the answer. We depended on Darmian controlling him which he couldn't do.
The most obvious tactic would of been to play Schneiderlin. Carrick is great at intercepting but when he has to run more than 3 yards he's next to useless. Schneiderlin can play as a sweeper excellently. A bit like Mascherano at Barca. I can't accept that Schneiderlin wouldn't of made a difference. It doesn't matter where the ball is when the opposition are attacking Schneiderlin moves towards it and he could of helped out Darmian enormously.
Playing Young at left back? In a 3-5-2 it works because there's an extra CB to help him out but in a 4-4-2? Why not play with Jones who actually is a CB with Smalling with Blind filling in at left back which he has done in numerous occasions. Then we only have 1 player out of position instead of 2.
More than one laughed at Arsenils CM saying that Carrick and Basti won't have any problems controlling them but even though i'm no where near an expert it's pretty obvious against Arsenil the best way to play them is with a 4-3-3. That extra body in the middle would of stopped or at least stemmed the avalanche they threw at us and with Schneiderlin playing as sweeper our full backs would of been better covered as well.
This isn't even hindsight. It's more common sense and no, i don't think the world is ending or we're going to get relegated or that tonight i'm going to shag Charlize Theron. If it's seen as negativity pointing things out even if people think it's bollocks then sue me (finger)
