So yeah...shut up Hammy Hey. I didn't say a word. But since you brought it up I'm seen as the most negative Manchester United supporter ever to be born even though I supported Moyes almost to the day he left. Because we now have VG it's like blasphemy to say I don't think he will succeed. Before the season kicked off I said, instead of spending £60m on Di Maria I'd rather we spent the money on a CB or CM because even though he had a great season last season the other 3 or 4 he was very hit and miss at Madrid. I got shot down. On Danny Blind I said he was like the Fellaini signing as in because no one else was available he was brought in. I was told I was talking shit ,that he was Hollands player of the year and he was exactly what we needed being a combative CM. On Marcos Rojo I said just because he had a good world cup he wasn't United standard. Once again I was told I was talking shit, that he was a top defender and exactly what we needed. Shot down once again. On Fellaini I said from the start he was never good enough to wear the United shirt. I'm now hearing he can do a good job breaking up play in the middle of the park and even though it's not pretty he's very effective. On VG from the off I've said I didn't think he was the right man for the job. I wasn't saying I don't think he's a great manager. He obviously has something with this amount of trophies he's won I personally think his ego is way to big to manage us. There will come a time when he thinks he's bigger than the club which is when the problems will start which he has demonstrated at every club he's been at. Going back to my previous points. Does Di Maria look happy at United and is he the player everyone thought he would be? Since Blind was exactly what we needed and Fellaini can do a job in CM why are we now saying we are no where near good enough to play a more flowing game? Since Rojo was exactly what we needed why are we complaining our defence is no where near good enough especially with signing Shaw as well? Just because I'm seen as negative it doesn't make me wrong. No wonder Blind isn't that combative, he's 53 bloody years old!

instead of spending £60m on Di Maria I'd rather we spent the money on a CB or CM That point would've been valid if the club has/had a £60m transfer budget and that was that, but that wasn't the case. Another £100m was also spent - Di Maria had no impact whatsoever on our ability to buy players elsewhere in the team. There was no either/or about it. Does Di Maria look happy at United and is he the player everyone thought he would be? Not when he/the team is playing poorly, no, but I'd be pissed off if anyone did look happy in the middle of a game he's underperforming in. Yes he is the player I thought he'd be, he's always been frustrating but he's always had incredible talent, that's what we're getting. Since Blind was exactly what we needed and Fellaini can do a job in CM why are we now saying we are no where near good enough to play a more flowing game? I'm not really sure who called Blind a combative player, whoever did was wrong. He's a more mobile Carrick. Fellaini still isn't a midfielder but has proved useful this season. We showed in September and October we can play a "more flowing game", but van Gaal didn't like the balance of the side, which is why he changed things and why he's already said he wants another midfielder in the summer. Since Rojo was exactly what we needed why are we complaining our defence is no where near good enough especially with signing Shaw as well? We've got the third best defence in the league and have only conceded more than once in one game when Rojo has played centre back. Compared with last season when we conceded more than a goal a game, he's improved matters.

Just because I'm seen as negative it doesn't make me wrong. And just because you moan more than others doesn't make you right either.

53 years old. They say sarcasm is the best form of wit. I don't agree myself. I'm more of a dry wit kind of fella.
All I'm saying is this was the season to get our priorities right. We all knew that we had a shit defence and a weak CM. Wouldn't we stand a better chance of finishing in the top 4 if we threw £50m at Dortmund for Hummel's instead of buying an Aston Martin which we can't drive because we have no insurance?
Frustrating talent reminds me too much of Nani. I personally don't agree about spending £60m on a player who turns up when he wants. For that sort of money I'd expect a game changer. Someone who demands the ball and makes things happen when the team aren't firing on all cylinders, not someone who disappears when the chips are down.
It was obvious last summer we still needed another CM so nothing has changed there. I still don't understand, now that we have very few injuries how VG can't find the balance. In Herrera and Blind we (apparently) have players who don't mind getting their hands dirty in the middle. If VG doesn't trust them that's another story.
I'm not surprised we've got the 3rd best defence in the league. Our defence is better protected than the president of America which is why we keep witnessing this dull unimaginative football with intermittent attacking play at best and we still keep conceding soft goals.

By the way. There's a difference between moaning and constructive critism especially when it's deserved after a lot of our performances this season. Let's call it how it is.

We could've still thrown £50m at Dortmund as well as Di Maria - it wasn't a case of either/or. To take your analogy we could've bought a Ferrari to go with the Aston Martin and still insured the fuck out of them both.
We still bought defenders and midfielders as well and overall the squad is massively improved from last season.
I'm not going to sit and argue about the standard of football because this season was always a means to an end, top 4 is the be all and end all. Sure it's not been pretty at times but it's about building for the future - getting the squad in place that can eventually play van Gaal's brand of football instinctively.
Di Maria is a lot like Nani in many ways, just a better version who is mentally better. I don't agree that he fades when it matters at all, he's always demanding the ball regardless of how he's playing because he backs himself to make things happen. The fee was reflective of his form last season, form that got him in the World XI. I don't understand how anyone can view buying one of the best players in the world with the attributes we're missing as a bad thing.
The best defences in the world concede silly goals, just look at the two Southampton (best defence in England) conceded against van Persie or the gaping hole in Chelsea's last night. Ours are doing very well for themselves considering that they're "shit."
I'm not seeing too much in the way of constructive criticism, I've not been reading much of the forum recently but the posts I'm responding to you haven't said how you'd improve things. Without ideas of how to improve matters then all it is is moaning.

Its true you have been off the forum a lot lately so you have missed my witty, constructive, well written comments on where I think it could/should of been better I will reply tomorrow but for the minute it's shower then bed. Up at 4:45 tomorrow morning for work. If there's any single, millionaire women out there under the age of 90 looking for a toy boy send me an email.

You do moan a little more than necessary, but at least you're consistent at it Can't agree about Di Maria - the guy has done great, some poor performances here and there, but overall he's the only reason we have any pace in the team. Blind has been injured a big part of the season, but even with that he's looked the quickest to adapt. (not surprise there) For me Rojo's progress has been the most visible one from all the newbies - he started off the season really poor, looked clueless when he had to defend (and not just set pieces); now he's easily my first choice defender I'd go player by player but I'm too lazy to write all of it Bottom line - my expectations were/are a top 4 at the beginning of the season, and we have been on track. Results speak volumes for Van Gaal's management so far

If he's got the players, 433 traditionally, but world class wingers (of the calibre he wants) don't grow on trees (if there are any at all). ...but VG also wants fluency in any, and all, formations he chooses, he's Dutch of a certain generation, so that's also his goal. The pragmatism comes in when he can't get the players he wants, so depending on who they can get in will determine how he sets up for next season as much as anything.
Although a Hummels type footballing CB with some Vidic about him with Paul Pogba and a RB would pretty much realise most of the potential already in the squad (so you'd get an automatic performance increase) and would cover most formations he would want to play.

Say we go 433, where do you think he'd deploy Rooney?
