He had pace from wide areas, we aren't playing with wingers. We have the pace from wide areas too, so why we don't play with wingers then? Probably again to do with Louis lack of trust in the midfield, lack of protection for our defenders etc. only he knows.. But since we aren't using wingers the pace and threat has to come from elsewhere.

But since we aren't using wingers the pace and threat has to come from elsewhere. Isn't this logical enough for all to see? I'm banging on about this like a lunatic for 3 months already, and longer! That's why he keeps playing it "safe" as some calls it. It's not all that safe but is much safer than more direct approach with wingers involved, bursting forward. I'm saying it again and I'm done with it, the pace is not the problem, it's the personnel we're missing, particularly in central defence and central midfield. Surely, wide areas should be improved also, like Depay instead of Valencia for instance. Edit: And Lacazette!

Yep. Because the central midfield can't cope playing with two orthodox wide wingers, it leaves large holes when the attack breaks down in the opposition final third and the opposition counters quickly. It leaves us massively exposed and back pedalling which puts pressure on the whole rearguard.
Plus he doesn't rate any of our wingers as good enough to be traditional wide wingers apart from Di Maria - and he might have a point.
What he did yesterday was clever though. Wear them down for 60 odd minutes and then switch it bringing width on when they were tiring.

www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2956769/Guide-hate-Manchester-United-think-Wayne-Rooney-stayed-feet-Ander-Herrera-s-goal-not-stood.htmlAdrian Durham gets slated for this article in the comments - obviously from the United haters. Of course we love United but maybe we should also take on board some points being made here. Yes it's true we're not playing the flowing football the fans, the pundits, old players and even old managers would like to see - but LVG is on a mission of 3 seasons not 1 ........ If you are focusing on United not playing fluent football, and completely ignoring the fact that they have lost one game in 19, almost as if you're trying to convince yourself that run isn't true, (then you hate United)
If you're desperately trying to manufacture more statistics and evidence that show just how much better United were under David Moyes than they are now under Louis van Gaal, then you've got too much time on your hands, (and you hate Manchester United).
If you've suddenly adopted a philosophy this season that winning a cup tie isn't as important as playing brilliant football during that tie, (then you hate United).
If you keep saying United are terrible then you are trying to convince yourself they are terrible. Which is a bit weird. They're not great, but they're not terrible. (This also means you hate United.)
I don't know how United's season will finish, but my opinion is that if they end up outside the top four – even if they improve on last season's seventh place – then Van Gaal has failed. If they win the FA Cup it's a bonus, but United's season isn't about that. It's about getting back into the Champions League.
United want to win the FA Cup of course, but the bigger clubs don't define true success around that competition.
After the calamity of last season, Van Gaal was tasked with rebuilding. Helicoptering in a few expensive signings was only part of the rebuild for a club not used to dealing with failure on the scale they suffered last season.
But I also get that while Van Gaal's United are not going to be remembered as brilliant, he's got them back into the top four.
Whether the Manchester United haters can accept it or not, if the Dutchman keeps United in the top four come the end of the season, he has hit the target most United fans would have set him at the start of the campaign.
And if that happens, no amount of spin and nonsense about Rooney allegedly diving, United playing the long ball or Van Gaal being worse than Moyes will make the United-haters' summer any more bearable.

Takes an objective eye from a lower league supporter sometimes, even if it is Adrian Durham.

At the end of last season/beginning of this one all fans wanted was a top 4 finish...now we have been in the top 4 for a while now and people want to see these amazing breath-taking performances. It's just never enough Van Gaal was first and foremost hired to steady the ship - so far he's done great on that. Can we play better with the players we have now? - Sure. But that will probably mean for us to open up and receive 2-3 goals, while we're trying to outscore our opponents. Van Gaal is going for the safer option, and I can't really blame him for that, our strikers haven't looked good enough to outscore anyone, and our midfield and defence crumble when we're pushed far back So yeah...shut up Hammy

Aston Villa are playing West Brom, 4 miles apart and yet 6,000 Arsenal fans have to make the trip up to Manchester on a Monday.
Well played as always, TV fucks.

So yeah...shut up Hammy Hey. I didn't say a word. But since you brought it up I'm seen as the most negative Manchester United supporter ever to be born even though I supported Moyes almost to the day he left. Because we now have VG it's like blasphemy to say I don't think he will succeed. Before the season kicked off I said, instead of spending £60m on Di Maria I'd rather we spent the money on a CB or CM because even though he had a great season last season the other 3 or 4 he was very hit and miss at Madrid. I got shot down. On Danny Blind I said he was like the Fellaini signing as in because no one else was available he was brought in. I was told I was talking shit ,that he was Hollands player of the year and he was exactly what we needed being a combative CM. On Marcos Rojo I said just because he had a good world cup he wasn't United standard. Once again I was told I was talking shit, that he was a top defender and exactly what we needed. Shot down once again. On Fellaini I said from the start he was never good enough to wear the United shirt. I'm now hearing he can do a good job breaking up play in the middle of the park and even though it's not pretty he's very effective. On VG from the off I've said I didn't think he was the right man for the job. I wasn't saying I don't think he's a great manager. He obviously has something with this amount of trophies he's won I personally think his ego is way to big to manage us. There will come a time when he thinks he's bigger than the club which is when the problems will start which he has demonstrated at every club he's been at. Going back to my previous points. Does Di Maria look happy at United and is he the player everyone thought he would be? Since Blind was exactly what we needed and Fellaini can do a job in CM why are we now saying we are no where near good enough to play a more flowing game? Since Rojo was exactly what we needed why are we complaining our defence is no where near good enough especially with signing Shaw as well? Just because I'm seen as negative it doesn't make me wrong.
