Fuck off Dave with your balanced argument. It's quite frankly ridiculous that you've put so much thought into a perfectly reasonable talking point (in Wilson's future) instead of batting it off with a meaningless statement that doesn't really have anything to do with the point in hand!
I think Wilson has bags of class, he's a great finisher, lightening pace and excellent positioning in and around the box. The issue is he's gets bullied in games which causes him to get lost and struggle to get involved. It's something he has to work on, whether he gets stronger or smarter I don't know but there's more needed from him to make it here long term. No doubt he has the ability though and he always seems like a kid willing to work to achieve.

Naaah, fuck Wilson. Although he's still pretty young it feels like the right time has come and went for him. Apart from the 2 (or 3) goals he's scored, he's showed a great work rate but is not the clinical finisher United needs. Meanwhile Rashford has 7 goals in 12 games or something ridiculous like that. And Wilson was playing in a much better team than Rashford (even though it was made of the same players). I also love the way he runs flailing his arms around. It would be sad, but I think it might be best to extend the loan or even sell him to a lower side - we have more promising kids at the moment

Bottom line is who do you play Rashford, Martial Rooney or Wilson ? i said before maybe Rashford was the reason Wilson was left on loan and today that decision stands up for itself Iike it ir not LVG saw right there IMO

Hmmm, I don't think so - I think Rashford was a happy accident, don't think Van Gaal saw a first team player in him, not even sure he knew who Rashford was when he was loaning Wilson out, but it just so happened that he needed a striker and he got a word that there's a talented kid in the reserves.

I don't think Wilson was loaned out because we had Rashford in reserve though. I think he just got lucky on that one. He obviously rates him as he was named on the bench earlier in the season but Wilson would've undoubtedly been getting game time if he hadn't gone out on loan and Rashford would've probably still been playing for the u21's every week.
As it stands now Rashford looks head and shoulders above any other academy product in terms of a striker. He appears to have everything, he's strong, quick, smart, great finisher, athletic, energetic, aggressive...the list is endless but he's obviously nowhere near the finished article (which is frightening) and he has to continue to put the work in.
It can change around very quickly and there's a lot of uncertainty about the whole squad going forward into next season. How does Rashford cope with sitting on the bench every week if we bring a top striker in? How does he cope if he gets an injury and someone else comes in and impresses, keeping him out of the squad? What happens if he starts to lose some form and struggles for confidence? He seems to have bags of confidence but he's young and people are building him up a little too much.
Wilson is very talented. He has everything Rashford does from a footballing point of view but falls behind in terms of physique and mentality. As I said he has to force his way into games run about and make a nuisance just like Rashford does when he's not getting the ball.

It's very unpredictable with these kids - one season they're on fire and then the next they go two steps back. I was absolutely certain McNair would play a big role this season, Januzaj as well, Pereira... the good thing is that even if Rashford was a one season miracle there's at least 3-4 just as talented kids behind him, ready and willing to take his place

I think Pererira has never lived up to his U21 hype, Januzay only occasionally. Januzaj is still only 21, just doesn't feel like that since he is a senior player for quite a while. Be patient with them. Would loan both to a PL club where they play.
Wilson, struggling in the Championship, seems to have been overtaken by Rashford. We need another striker in the squad but I doubt he'd be ready. I was almost sure he would become a first team regualr by the age of 22-23. Still only 20 so should maybe the striker in the U21 and get back confidence and wait for his chance. Depends also if we sign a striker in the summer which many see as a must. I'd put a winger ahead of a striker on that list.
There are some players going into their crucial 2nd season. Can Memphis do a Shaw and finally come good? Can Martial and Rashford maintain at that promising level they started? CBJ is also on the verge of being a first teamer oder U21. I'd take him over Rojo but wait and see.

Yeah I've thought the same Dave. He's a good footballer and links up well so I think he could be a real revelation in that role. It would give us a lightning fast front 3 as well.

Him and Rashford rotating could be an awesome little partnership, both used to play there so understand the position, seems like a goer to me.

Hopefully he does it and makes a better fist of it than he did at Brighton. I was never overly impressed with what I saw from him whilst he was there.

I'd be more than happy if he proves me wrong, but I think he's getting sold.

Disaster strikes. On-loan Derby County striker James Wilson has returned to parent club Manchester United after suffering a "significant" knee problem. www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37698569
