Great Show by Wilson England U21 1-0 USA U23: Manchester United striker James Wilson grabs chance to fire timely reminder James Wilson showed he is ready to lead the new wave of emerging strikers by scoring with his first meaningful touch for England’s Under-21s. It has been a testing week for the Manchester United novice, who never moved on deadline day despite interest from 15 clubs and then saw his hopes of regular football compromised by Anthony Martial’s £36million arrival from Monaco. He can be sure, though, that Gareth Southgate will use him frequently this season and his 72nd minute goal at Deepdale was enough to give the Young Lions a win in their first game back since suffering crushing disappointment at Euro 2015. www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3221573/England-U21-1-0-USA-U23-Manchester-United-striker-James-Wilson-grabs-chance-fire-timely-reminder.html#ixzz3kkmJrmqo

May keep Wilson
"We have to consider that [keeping him here]," the manager told MUTV. "Can he play like last season without [getting] many playing minutes? That is not good for him. But, of course, the injuries for Manchester United are above all other interests so we have to consider that again."
Give him more minutes then..

Yeah it's a peculiar comment. We have a smaller squad and more games so surely there should be more chances for him.

He also said he's the natural replacement for Martial should he be rested or injured. etc.etc. If that's the case why didn't he start him up front instead of Fellaini?

Yeah, still don't get his comments. Should be on the bench at least.
Just seems to be writing him off/unwilling unless it's exceptional circumstances which is strange as he was starting ahead of Falcao last season.

I think it's clear that he just doesn't think he's good enough at the minute. No other explanation for it.

He doesn't make a big enough of an impact or difference when he gets his chance so he'll go out when VG is convinced the other 3 are ok injury and form wise. Just the way it is with first team football, he needs a spell out lower down before first team here tbh.

He and Martial are very similar in age, both turn 20 within a few days of each other. As good as Wilson is and could be he's nowhere near Martial physically. No doubt he's as good a finisher, as quick and his movement is excellent but he doesn't have that combination of pace and power that Martial has which makes him a constant nuisance and threat to the opposition.
I'd like to see him get more chances but I'd probably much prefer to see him get some regular first team football in the Championship than waiting for possible chances here and playing against the U21's which he's at a much higher level than.
As long as he has an instant recall clause should we need him I don't really see the problem.

They don't like beefing them up solely in the gym during your teens, they want organic natural growth, they want a balance of cardio through games, football skill level maintained and gym work so it all comes together as a whole.
So if you don't fill out properly till later then so be it, thems who fill out and look like a grown man at 18 / 19 early get the edge in British football usually, especially further down the leagues you go where skills count for less.

Not just that, he's there for whoever comes after him, especially if it's Giggs, who we already know rates him highly. Regardless of whether these players are getting game time now there's a promising nucleus of young talent developing here, who are all in some way or another considered part of the first team. Martial, Memphis, Wilson, Shaw, Januzaj, Mcnair, Lingard, Blackett,Pereira. You've also got Smalling, Jones, Blind, Darmian, Rojo, Schneiderlin, Herrera who are all 26 or younger, so have a good few years left in them (and De Gea if he stays). With guys like Rooney, Schweinsteiger, Mata and Carrick providing the much needed experience. Even if the media don't see it there's a very strong and perfectly balanced side developing here. Anyway great news that he's signed a new deal. Here's the manutd.com article: www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2015/Sep/james-wilson-signs-new-deal-with-manchester-united.aspx
