What I find most worrying after the time and money spent is we still can't attack and defend as a team. Surely we should be fluid now and even if we do have injuries it's basics we're talking about. Yes we're still a couple of forwards short but that cannot be used as an excuse. Defend and attack against the top flight in top flight competition with those injuries - no, we can't. We need greater quality throughout the squad by the looks of it.

Yeah last night was beyond a joke concerning injuries. Varela is a talent but it's his first start for us. Jackson plays half the match despite barely being out of the u18's. Smalling get's crocked. Having to play Darmian at right back isn't ideal, then the fact he got unfairly booked early on IMO. Schneiderlin is a big part of our defensive setup as well and we seriously missed him. I think last night was one of those nights where excuses were completely necessary and justified.
I also think in terms of defending and attacking well as a unit, Shaw is a huge miss. He personifies the complete modern full back, lightning quick, powerful and equally adept going forward as he is at defending. I thought Darmian was the missing link on the right when we first signed him but he's seriously lacking at the attacking end of the pitch. His crossing has been very poor, solid defender though. Varela looks like he could be the real deal, I'd like to see him get an extended run in the side even when injuries have lessened. Always liked what I saw in the U21's and he's transferred a great deal of that into the first team during his short stint.

Both Arsenal and Chelsea are not guaranteed to qualify yet tonight which is worrying in the bigger picture that with only one or maybe two out of four PL teams manage to get out of their respective groups with City already qualified then the league is no longer ranking well in the UEFA coefficiency points to maintain our four team status in the tournament. We are ok for next term at the moment, but can you imagine the dogfight for three places going forward in the PL as well as the potentially lost revenue for clubs?

I have to agree with Matt and Jamie. I do believe we deserved to get at least a point last night, even though it wouldn't have changed the outcome. If we're talking about the game on its own, I think we showed a lot attacking power. It kida reminded me of games in Fergie's last years. The injuries, the kids, etc all can be written down as reasons for last night. But you take a look at the bigger picture then our whole run was disappointing and on the whole our season so far has been disappointing. Not too late to turn it around though.

to be fair the only way to rescue this and actually feel the season was anything but a shambles is some siverware or a 2nd place finish
otherwise it will be like an arsenal type season.
the worst thing is the europa league....... can we actually withdraw from the competition.
