Only one day rest after the West Ham game, which in this case could be a good thing because we have to put the 0-0 behind us and focus on the task at hand. One of the most important games so far this season, and we look less than ready to take the challenge, but luckily Wolfsburg lost their weekend game so hopefully that plays some part too. Van Gaal knows how to win European games, so I'm not that worried, but we are missing some key players - Schneiderlin and possibly Herrera being the ones that can make things happen, so a big task for Schweinsteiger and I hope to see some youngsters changing things upfront.

Biggest game of our season so far. Absolutely no excuses for getting knocked out of this group, one which we should really be topping. I saw them at home to Dortmund Yesterday and they weren't all that. Got a draw from a late penalty but looked pretty toothless in front of goal for much of the match and suspect in defence.
Could very well be a defining moment of LVG's tenure here. Win the game and show massive spirit in the process and it could kick-start our season. Lose or draw the game, get knocked out and the fans get even more disgruntled and the pressure intensifies.

I'm maintaining that the football was better yesterday and if we go into Wolfsburg with that same urgency and tempo then we'll create chances, lets just hope we've found our scoring boots.
Mata may well be better suited for this game but I'd bring in Memphis, might as well go all out youth with more pace. The other changes depend on Schneiderlin and the fullbacks.
We scored 2 against them before and won so are more than capable of doing so again.

I would also leave Mata out. I would play Carrick and Schweini (if Schneiderlin is injured), with Fellaini in front of them just to have that awkward but impossible to deal with giant tree (in all seriousness though, Fellaini also offer a lot of efforts and tracking back), with a fluid and paceful front 3 of Martial - Memphis - Lingard (with Martial wider, because that's his best position, whether you like it or not :-) )

Matt you're infuriating  It's just wrong, we don't play with a front three anyway so there..

You can't have Fellaini in a European match , he'll get us all killed.
Memphis looks reasonably sharp, compared to be being shit, even if it is only in bursts. Definite starter for me.

Yeah the chance he created for Martial Yesterday was a superb bit of football from him, the likes we haven't seen so far. Maybe the stint on the bench has got through to him and in the 2nd half of the season we're going to see the real Memphis.

If Herrera could come back for this one it would solve a lot of issues, otherwise I'd have to say Mata, Fellaini from the bench. Martial, Memphis and Lingard around (don't really care who plays where)

Really struggling with injuries, Schneiderlin definitely out. United squad: De Gea, Romero, Blind, Borthwick-Jackson, Darmian, McNair, Smalling, Varela, Carrick, Fellaini, Goss, Lingard, Mata, Pereira, Powell, Schweinsteiger, Young, Martial, Memphis. I'd be going: Dave Varela Smalling Blind Darmian Carrick Schweinsteiger Fellaini Lingard Memphis Martial Think this settles it that we have to go 3 in midfield with Fellaini at the point. He'll offer more than Mata defensively and judging by the weekends performance offensively aswell. All out pace and fluidity in attack. Mcnair struggled at right back and I'd give Varela his first start in our biggest game of the season, tough test for him likely to be up against Schurlle on that side but we have no option. I have a feeling we're going to be going 3-5-2 though with this the likely line up: Dave
Mcnair Smalling Blind
Darmian Young
Carrick Schweinsteiger
Mata
Lingard Martial

Well hope this tosser is wrong - Come on lads - the gauntlets are down - let's see what you're made of
Wolfsburg v Manchester United
Well United need to win and focus on doing so as I expect PSV will get the three points they need with CSKA already out of contention. The problem is that if you start worrying about all the scenarios it can over-complicate things and distract you.
Wolfsburg are fifth in the Bundesliga and, in Bas Dost and Max Kruse, they have goals in them, particularly at home, which is unlike United. I covered United at the weekend and I actually thought it was the best they've played in a while. They had 21 attempts but only one on target and the fans are really starting to get concerned, booing them off after the game.
The real worry for me is, as strong as they've been at the back, I'm not sure they have the goals in them when it counts and I think they're going to go out.
Charlie predicts: 2-1

Stakes are very high but the game itself is very simple. If the team can't lift itself tonight then public flogging should be involved. It's not as if we don't have the quality.

I agree, no excuses tonight. Wolfsburg are a good side but we have more than enough quality to control the game and beat them convincingly if everyone turns up and the tactics are spot on.

Well sorry to say the manager seems to have the lads playing a neat triangle passing game that goes nowhere. No room for a quick raid or attack just pass it here and then he passes it back to you blah blah then we lose the ball .........
I am afraid for the worst tonight ........

Hopefully we'll win to guarantee we go through, but worst case we have to match PSV's result to still qualify. The tension is unbearable even now.
