De Gea,Varela, Smalling, Blind, Darmian, Fellaini, Schweinsteiger, Lingard, Mata, Memphis, Martial. That's the side for tonight, not bad as I would have expected Mata to be dropped and Carrick instead of Fellaini... Let's hope they win tonight and qualify

Well it's an attacking lineup. Really can't have too many complaints with it. Fellaini starting in cm is a bit surprising but again he offers a bit more going forward than Carrick. Sky just said they have it as Memhpis/Martial as a front 2.

Yeah happy with that.
Mata although sometimes not the most involved has the knack of picking a sublime pass or producing a glorious finish, which could be all the difference. Fellaini is a nuisance, he wins the ball back well it's just whether he can keep his head and discipline.
The front four has pace and it will be a big day for Varela who did well against West Ham.

It's the pace in attack that pleases me the most. Lingard, Martial and Memphis need to make themselves as busy as possible to open up the space for Mata.
Looking forward to this. Time to stand up and be counted.

Team pretty much picks itself. Wolfsburg gone with a strong line-up too. Thought they may have left Schurrle on the bench and brought him on later in the game.
They may well go for this even though they don't necessarily have to win unlike us. Winner takes all. Top spot in group there for the taking as well

Must say I'm very surprised with wookie starting in CM. We need someone to control the game and there's no way he's capable of doing that. Add to the fact it's a European referee he'll be blowing up every 5 minutes when Felliani starts putting himself about. These type of games are tailor made for Carrick with his passing ability and with no Morgan to play those delightful balls i cant really see where our link up play will come from.Very strange indeed.

A lot rests on the shoulders of Bastian tonight. Fellaini will probably be given a bit of freedom

Still a bit strange. He's played with 2 holding CMs all season when a lot of the time it wasn't needed and tonight when it is needed he plays with 1

I've got no confidence in Fellaini to even stay on the pitch for 90

Not felt so gutted at losing a match for a long time.
On the performance tonight. Going forward I thought we looked very dangerous all game, still lacking a killer instinct but the intensity was there and we created a lot of chances. We seriously missed Schneiderlin though, absolutely no cover for the defence as Basti is not and has never been a holding midfielder, deep lying playmaker maybe but he's not someone who can break up the game like Morgan. I think we missed him that much that I'm convinced we'd have won if he played.
That being said the first 2 goals were still poorly defended how he got a free volley in the area for the first goal is a joke and the 2nd was just much too easy. Also very disappointed to concede so quickly after taking the lead for the first 1. The 3rd goal is more understandable as our side was in disarray at that stage, battered by injuries.
Other positives besides improved attacking were Jackson and Varela, they did themselves no harm whatsoever on a tough night. Really impressed with the pair of them.
Judging the night as a one off game I'm not disappointed at all. Played with heart and I really can't fault the effort the players put in.
We shouldn't be getting knocked out of this group though. We've made an absolute meal of it. PSV are distinctly average and we managed to get just 1 point off them in 2 games. A draw away or a win at home against them and we'd be through. That is, in truth where we've lost it, not on a night were we actually played quite well and with pride.
I just hope he sends as weak a side as possible out for the Europa.

Superb spirit shown by the guys today, for a team decimated by injuries I thought we'd play it safe but they went fighting for that spot and that's all I wanted to see. Fellaini was sticking like a sore thumb, a ton of mistakes done in defense, even De Gea. Thought the kids did really well, as well as Memphis if you're not counting a couple stupid stuff that he usually does. Martial and Lingard got tired by the end of it and who can really blame them, they shouldn't be every match starters to begin with at that age. We keep on banging on about it, but I'll say it again - if we had another goalscorer the result might have been different tonight, so many chances missed that could have turned the game around. Overall I really enjoyed it, by far my favorite game this season so I have no regrets going out of CL. I'd have a 3-2 loss like this over a dull 0-0 any day.

Who'd have settled for a boring 1-0 victory today?
