Another game where we have the majority of the possession but having less shots on target compared to the opposition. Too cautious again in attack. It's like we are playing not to lose . Players all look like robots. Don't feel like they are enjoying what they are doing at the moment. No freedom whatsoever given to them to express themselves on the pitch. Too timid to try anything... afraid of making mistakes. All this is down to the manager.

I've also come to the decision that as classy a player I think Mata is, he's too slow and too weak. In this kind of system, it's imperative that you play with attackers that have pace. Mata is slow on the ball, he's slow to the ball and when hassled whilst on the ball he's often to weak to keep possession. For him to play and be effective in this side he has to be surrounded by pace so they can open the space up for him to get on the ball easier and work his magic. He had absolutely no effect on the game today and he played centrally. I agree. We all know Mata can be quality, but let's not kid ourselves, he is rubbish in that system. In fact, I think most attacking players are rubbish in that system. I am not even sure Messi or Ronaldo could do much on their own. Because that's what happens: there is too little movement and possibilities of combination. It's like we have reverted back to the situation under Moyes attacking wise. It's truly depressing. if it's the system, why not play a formation that suits our players' strengths? Just not working at the moment especially in attack. Luckily we have been really good in defense this season... largely due to the impressive form of smalling and de gea. Without those 2 I wonder where we will be at. Bottom half I reckon.

if it's the system, why not play a formation that suits our players' strengths? That's exactly why I am starting to lose patience with LVG. He is playing a system that doesn't quite suit our players' qualities. Yet at the end of last season, he had found a system where we could beat almost everyone with Fellaini, Herrera, Mata, Young and Rooney. Because he played a formation that suited everyone's strength. I don't know what's happening this season on that front. We have better players, a better understanding of his "philosophy", but I believe LVG is the one who is messing things up at this stage. His system isn't appropriate and our over-cautiousness is getting ridiculous.
