Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal: " We did not keep the ball. That's a very important factor and because of that we didn't create too many chances. I have to say I can't complain about the result. "[Not scoring for a third consecutive game] is a big concern but I already said that after the second match, especially against Middlesbrough, because we created many chances but did not finish. "Today we didn't create so many chances so it's more difficult. When you don't keep the ball you can't create chances." He's spot on you know. In the first half we created 2 golden opportunities whilst dominating possession. In the 2nd half we were terrible on the ball and couldn't keep hold of it for any prolonged period of time. Which showed in both the possession stats and the fact we didn't create anything. The 2nd half was bad on all sorts of levels. On the plus side, we're still rock solid at the back despite having to draft Blind in for Jones and replacing Darmian with Young for the last half hour. Got a bit lucky a few times though. People mentioned he ripped Herrera for missing his chance, is that true?

 He's saying exactly what he saw and the rest of us saw. I'd be more concerned if he was coming out and saying we played well.
Reading social media there's a lot of LVG out comments which just completely boggles my mind at this moment in time. It was only 4 games ago that we dismantled and put 3 past Everton, so people should get a little perspective.
The way I see it, it's only the last 2 displays which have been truly disappointing. Moscow away was a solid champions league away performance and a good result. City at home was a tough game in which both sides didn't give an inch to each other and if anything we were the ones pushing forward.
I'm not making any excuses for the last 2 performances though. Yes we created chances against Boro but not enough and in the end weren't clinical enough. Today was just a complete shambles and if we were still playing now I'd be willing to bet we still wouldn't have scored.

I dunno about ripped but he certainly mentioned in his MUTV interview that he asked him what went wrong as he did miss a sitter from about 4 yards out.

This is really disappointing. This is NOT Nan United!! We can't continue to applaude this game strategy. United were exciting to watch, win or lose, now they are Boring. I have to agree with Scholes. This team would not have won anything in the past. One shot on target in 90+ minutes is simply not acceptable. They have to change otherwise they will lose their charisma.

VG and his philosophy really do bore the tits off me. If he's not blaming the players he states the obvious but still does nothing to rectify our obvious deficiencies. I could go on but today has just sapped all the energy I had left. Onwards and....onwards

I'll be honest, the first thing we need to do is get Rooney out of that number 9 position and preferably out of the team. It's no coincidence that We've gone cold on the goals front since we moved him back up front and switched Martial out to the left.
In the 6 games Martial appeared as a striker we scored 15 goals. In the next 6, since we switched him out to the left we've scored 4, including not scoring a goal in 4 of those games.
It's really not rocket science to see how best this team can score goals. I now agree with something Dave said at some point, maybe in another thread. If he's not going to drop Rooney we have to sacrifice Herrera to get Martial back in that number 9 position. Either that or we stick Rooney out to the left to 'do a job' but between him and Mata there's not enough pace.

Golf is brilliant so thats a shit analogy. Let's just say if sex was based on emotional stimulation from watching golf then I'm afraid my days are numbered and I may as well just jump off my 5th balcony.

So Mcilroy driving a 400 yard par 4 in 1 does nothing for you? I had an erection for a good week after I saw him hit that shot.

A week? Maybe I'd better start watching it then. Cheaper than those Viagra pills.

I would love to know what Sir Alex is thinking now about his "OLD" team.

I'm getting seriously annoyed with the LVG out comments, especially coming from people that are not that stupid. Completely ignoring the fact that we have the least goals conceded in the league along with Arsenal and Tottenham and it's only when it comes to goals scored that we look simply terrible - 8 place with Norwich. There have been 3 seasons where we have scored less goals than our 15 now - 12 goals in 92/93, 14 in 02/03 and 11 in 04/05. In two out of these three we won the title. Going into some panic mode after just 11 games is ridiculous. I get that we're playing boring football, but the situation would have been completely different if we were scoring. Nobody is expecting us to set the world alight with magical football against Crystal Palace, but we should be grinding out results in games like this. So figure this shit out, play Martial up top and get scoring - we should be fine

LVG has managed to restore a real defensive solidity and global team organisation. We're just lacking shparness upfront, incisive moves to kill teams off.
LVG imo has some responsibility in this, as I believe he is way too cautious at times, but let's be honest for a moment: how do you build sharp moves, how do you overrun defenders when the only player you have upfront who can take on defenders in Martial? Mata is a great little player but he isn't fast, he rarely dribbles past defenders: his strength is all about smart passing and movement. And Rooney is just burrying his career at the moment, so I am not surprised by our lack of goals.
Imo, LVG should use Young and Lingard more and drop Rooney to let Martial in that 9 position. But we know he won't do this, for some reason. But keeping relying on Rooney, as I said since the start of the season, will cost us our season (in terms of truly challenging for silverware).
I may be dreaming, but if we could get a quality attacker this January, to free up Martial, I am sure we would be just fine. If we could, for instance, get Mane to add that pace and power we're severly lacking, I am sure it would completely dynamite our striking force.
