It appears the manager is telling Scholes to go fuck himself in his presser.
Speaking at his pre-match news conference on Friday, Van Gaal said: "You have an expression. Sticks and stones will break my bones. Names won’t hurt me.
"He [Scholes] doesn’t have the responsibility. Is he saying this for the benefit for the club or benefit of himself?"
"I always take risks," said the Dutchman. "I don’t agree with his opinion. He has a lot of resonance [being sarcastic]. He should speak with the manager, or his friend Ryan Giggs, or Ed Woodward not….because he shall be paid by the BBC or Sky."
"When we shall lose and lose and lose I shall be finished. I know that," added Van Gaal.
"But we are improving. We now have 20 points from 10 games. Last year it was 13. We are in the next round of the Capital One Cup. We are in the Champions League. Last year we had 15 injuries. This year we have three. It can't be done in one year, it takes three years.
"If Mr Scholes thinks I go….Mr Scholes is not the responsible man. That is the Glazers and Mr Woodward."

Which is fine, but still needs to take onbaord the criticism and not dismiss it out of hand, which I don't think he has, he'll know the teams shortcomings well enough. Fortunately he's got Giggs there to translate Scholes blunt edge talk into what he actually means.

There is a theory I heard from someone saying that maybe Giggs might be feeding this to Scholes to try and help his cause in trying to be the future manager. I don't believe that to be fair. As I said it is hypocritical to critique the style of football as if Fergie is still in charge and leave Rooney or try to shield him from the blame.
That's the best and polite way van Gaal could've responded to Scholes and its amazing because LVG hates losing possession but at the same time hates the lack of risk some of the players are taking. We have some of the best distance shooters in Bastian, Mata to an extent and Carrick but they would rather pass than shoot in space and that I think frustrates VG himself at times.

These ex players keep telling fans to accept change but their the ones that can't handle it.
It is getting pretty boring, just let him do his job, which he's doing pretty well at the minute. The football might not be to everyone's taste but it's getting results, he's here for a few years, get a grip and ride it out.

I think they don't appreciate what he's doing for this side. Even if he doesn't win a trophy in the next season and a half he's going to have achieved his goal for me. The club has been stabilised, changed in a way that will make us better in the future and the squad has been overhauled and is in a pretty excellent state with a good mixture of exciting youth, quality and proven experience as well as players in or entering their prime. We're defending as a unit better than we have in years and we're finally able to control games and possession in big games.
Whoever takes over from him will be the one to reap the benefits of what he's actually done.

LVG has done an excellent job. Put someone like Suarez instead of Rooney, and we would be toying with everyone.
What we need now if for January to come, for LVG to find his balls to drop Rooney, and for us to buy a quality striker. The team is growing absolutely fine.

Loved how Van Gaal just called Scholes a mercenary
Agree with everything that has been said above, this side is one striker short of being good enough. I'm starting to come to term with the idea of us not getting anything this season, but I still hope to see a lot more from our displays.
Not being a whole lot optimistic about Palace, always one of those teams that manage to sneak one past you.

We've won home and away against them every season since they came back up. Expect that to continue tomorrow.

We do need to have a bit more imagination, it is an improvement but we did get knocked out mid week by boro, a game we had no business losing so there should at least be some pressure for LVG to perform. If he doesn't wouldn't be too upset to see him depart and us bringing in a person like Simeone or Guardiola (our first option)

As LVG says if he loses and loses and loses then that's when I'd want a change (not saying 3 defeats and he's out simply if we start to suddenly lose a shit load of games and drop to the level of when Moyes was in charge, then the criticism would be understandable). We're not West Ham and shouldn't be concerned about playing the 'Man United way', the only manager who could have got the success playing the way we did was Fergie.
Our main aim isn't to play pretty football. It's to win football matches and challenge for trophies. Ok we got knocked out of the league cup but cups can be a bit of a lottery. We're gonna be in the title race until the very end in my opinion and I think we'll also surprise a few people in Europe as we progress further in the competition. At the end of the day, United fans and ex players are up in arms when we lose a game but how come these opinions weren't published after the Everton victory? Surely they had these opinions before that game.
Fact is, if we play 'boring' football and win 1-0 every week, which in turn means we win the league you wouldn't hear a lot of criticism and anyone who still complained would be an absolute tool.

One hypocritical thing I don't understand from our fans is that they want van Gaal to leave but want him to be replaced by Guardiola??? People don't seem to understand that all the teams Guardiola managed had two or three players who can change a game at any moment and who had that cutting edge, I don't see a Messi or Robben or Muller or Iniesta in the side.
Martial is the only one that can try and emulate that but he doesn't have help from the likes of Rooney, Memphis or players like that. I am really looking forward to the team van Gaal leaves for the next manager, I feel he might create something as good as Fergie's 06-09 team that will dominate under his successor.

Why would a person be an absolute tool if they complained Jamie? I'd bet a months wages that when Chelski won trophies playing shit, boring football we all cringed and said at least we will never go down that path. Of course football evolves and teams have to adapt but that doesn't mean you have to lose the entertainment value. People seem to forget that VG has spent close to £300m in little over a year. I think it's only fair that fans question our way of playing especially when we have a football genius and his fecking philosophy as our manager. We still may be one striker short but that's still no excuse for some of the performances we have seen. Our p!ay is way too predictable with everything going down the wings which is pointless when there's no bodies in the box. Talk about putting round pegs in square holes. We have talented attacking players like Basti, Herrera, Mata, Martial and even Lingard and Pereira have shown they have a future but what is the point of having them if all they do is play 5 yard balls to each other and look for the safe option? It may well be successful which was proved at Bayern but they decided that VGs "philosophy" (I can't stand that word) didn't fit in with their own idea of how football should be played and fucked him off out of it. Anyway. There's going to be interesting times in the very near future. More than a few of you have stated that if our way of playing/performances haven't changed by the end of October, mid November then maybe their opinions will change. Guess what guys? We're almost there

I'd bet a months wages that when Chelski won trophies playing shit, boring football we all cringed and said at least we will never go down that path. Nope, I cringed at United fans claiming they wouldn't like to win the league in that fashion. It's absolute bollocks. As long as your team is successful, fans don't really care in the long run. Chelsea fans never seemed to mind and we'd be the same if we were to win the league in similar fashion. That was a theoretical situation anyway. I actually enjoy watching us dominate possession and defend solidly. There's also no doubt that when we get it right we're a joy to watch going forward as well but we need consistency at that end of the pitch. It's getting tougher though. The last 2 seasons you thought teams were going to come at us because of how vulnerable they thought we were in midfield and attack, which they did and often reaped the rewards. Now it's a different matter. We're absolutely rock solid, teams have reverted to type against us now in that they tend to put 9/10 men behind the ball and try to do us on the counter. Which obviously makes it very tough to create chances. That's not an excuse though, if you want to be winning and challenging for trophies you have to be able to break down the most stubborn, defensive sides. That is LVG's job for the rest of this season, to try and take us to that next level. We're so solid in defence and midfield that he really can concentrate on getting the attack right. I think we're a shoe-in to finish top 3 and I think we'll be there come the end of the season even if we are still just grinding a lot of results out but for me, to actually win the league, we have to be more creative and clinical against sides like our opponents today.

I am glad a player like Lindard is getting a chance because he always looks to play the ball forward and is not as predictable as Mata when he is on the form he is on now. Like I said our style at the moment is dependant on the players we have on the final third, the only one with pace and creativity is Martial and he is on form as well. We have enough creative forces but they aren't players who can stretch the game hence we resort to playing the possession and patient game.
Teams playing a low-block defense isn't helping our cause even though at times shooting would help as an extra pass is not needed. Arsenal are able to play their style well because when it comes to the final 1/3 they have fast players who also take a pop at goal is the passing isn't working. The fact that Rooney, Mata in the last few weeks and Memphis aren't on form is affecting our play to a certain extent.
