And he misses it and gets a bollocking from LVG, with this convo being other way round.. the manager decides beforehand so no issues for me, Fellaini should have had a pen as well.
RVP was probably our sharpest player in front goal, I don't think Rooney even had a shot. It wasn't poorly hit either, keeper just dived the right way.

Yeah I agree regarding the penalty of everyone who was on the pitch there was no natural or arguably a better penalty taker than RVP. I was just not confident when he took I don't know why and I feel he was our best player as he tried and was sharp in front of goal. I can see why di maria isn't starting but at least like other players he doesn't hide when he is having a poor game, it wasn't our day but I thought that was one of the poorest first half's I have seen in a while.

If you look at the replay RVP might as well have pointed to the spot he was aiming for, he telegraphed the keeper with his his eyes for way longer than he should, and it was a nice height for any agile keeper, it was just a poor pen.
I'm with Marc, I don't think we played that badly, just didn't have the last few pieces of the jigsaw in place to finish sides off who do what they did.

I am not denying that either, but what frustrates me is that some players didn't put enough drive and willingness to kill them off. And that is something I cannot accept. We lacked that cutting edge all over the pitch, reflected by a lack of urgency. Only Young, RVP, Herrera imo tried to bring that urgency and directness back in the side. It looks like the season is already over for many of our first teamers, and that's plain wrong. |

I agree with you, the make up and character of the entire squad is not what it should be, but that's going to take time to get right. Ferguson on the board will be the first to have spotted that. That team is crying out for a 'grab a game by the throat' leader like Keane. I just don't see many, if any, suitable candidates. Pogba has it in him but not at the moment.

What I wanted to see was our captain actually standing up and making the decision and saying "I'm having this". It's on the pitch decisions that win and lose games,not what was arranged in the dressing room. If Rooney was up to the armband,he should have took that decision by the scruff, RVP was rusty and shouldn't have been near it...that's what I'm saying.. But he is from Liverpool: "Noooooo! I'm not having this mate!"  |

For me the result is disappointing rather than the display. Thought Young and Van Persie were great (obviously without the missed penalty).
I think we talked in the chatroom how much less effective Fellaini is when we're facing a "parked bus", but I thought it was a good idea from Van Gaal to put him up front. With a defense so tall as West Brom's it was no good to have Rooney there. I'm not sure if we have someone who's actually good with headers.
Only serious criticism from me would be towards McNair - I know he's still a kid but the free kick and another couple things were just silly.
So apparently 11 behind is our weak spot so I'm expecting more of the same in the next 3 matches (or maybe without Arsenal)

Glad I avoided the huge overreaction as I was busy Yesterday. As Marc said a few pages back, it was a good performance that just lacked a killer instinct in front of goal. If we played that game again today, we could have won it 5-0. Obviously very disappointed to lose the game but I'm still very confident for next season.
