As has been said Carrick or Blind would have put Herrera further forward, linking with Mata who was pretty quiet and Roo upfront so I think we'd have got more joy.
It was a bit of a free hit in my eyes so I'm not too disheartened, I don't think this has a great impact on our progress or confidence. I'm a little disappointed that we didn't really push for an equaliser, Rooney was wasted in the middle, worst case scenario if we pushed him forward was concede another goal. Shaw our best threat was taken off, though LVG won't change on that front regarding protection and what not. But he could have put young at left back, just some questionable choices..
We dominated and in particular first half were on top but Chelsea's disjointed shape seemed to have the opposite effect and we couldn't get that final ball, they bided their time and when the chance came they took it.

I'm a bit gutted with the result, but I am far from gutted with the performance. I don't think we were brilliant, but it was a fighting performance and we controlled the game.
It was never going to be easy, we all knew that. To come away from their place with as much possession as we did is not mean feat, no matter how much they were 'willing' to give us the ball. It's as clichéd as it gets, but on a another day we could have beaten that Chelsea side, definitely. There were some top performances from individuals; Shaw was fantastic on his first appearance in weeks, McNair played very well and I thought Smalling put in another top performance.
There are certainly positives to be taken from this loss. The past 5 performances have shown just much we've progressed. 2 months ago, who would have thought we'd come away from the City, Liverpool and Spurs games with all 9 points, and then go to Chelsea and largely dominate, just to be stifled by an extremely defensive Mourinho side?
With two/three signings in the summer and a full pre-season for van Gaal to work with, I think we'll be challenging for the title next season.

I'm fairly happy with today. Obviously I'm disappointed with the result, but I think we have champions league football sown up for next season so it's not the end of the world. The performance was very good, we out played the best team in the country for large sections of the game even though we were weakened. Shaw once again proved that we didn't pay a penny too much. McNair looked impressive and not out of his depth. If we take this form into next season, and sort out our lack of squad depth, we will almost certainly challenge for the title.

bit disappointing but we played at least reasonably well (7/10 performance), i think if we had our full squad we would have gotten a result surely. falcao was worthless, i think we would have been better off playing rooney up front and bringing any other person apart from him and maybe di maria in, they both need to leave in the summer. mcnair and shaw where our best players out there, very impressed with their play
think we are pretty much set for 3rd (i doubt we get 2nd but city has been far too poor as of late, then again they have that erratic quality about them)

I'm not sure I understand...
Either I'm misunderstanding you or you're communicating your ideas incorrectly.

Difficult games coming up. Everton and Palace away, Hull away could be tricky as well. Only our home game against WBA looks a certain 3 pointer to me. Arsenal at home will be our last game.
If things don't go our way, we might collect 3 out of a possible 15. Hopefully that's not the case.

Ok i got it. to me it seemed like you were saying that city were in 2nd and although it would be difficult to catch up to them, they've been in bad form so it's possible. Or at least that's the way I understood your sentence I need some English lessons

If only Roo had scored that goal (I ran round the room celebrating) it might have been different. .......
Great to see Shaw and McNair in such good form, solid team performance but a wee bit disappointing not to take at least a point from this match. The will to win was there but we just couldn't get the quality finish front of goal.
Agree on Falcao it's a shame for him and it's painful to watch but he has had so little to offer all season. Was glad to see ADM on the bench and nothing he did when him came on changed my opinion.
Keeping confidence and getting maximum points from the few remaining games could see us second.

By far our best performance at Stamford Bridge in years. It was a bogey ground for us pre-Abramovich and our record since their money came in is awful, so it's always a big ask for us to get anything there.
Yes, Mourinho set his team up to stop us and wanted the game to play out the way it did but it's credit to our recent performances that he even thought of doing that.
The difference in the game was ultimately the quality of finishing, Falcao and Rooney should both have scored. In fact, Falcao's chance was exactly the same as Hazard's, the finishes were pretty much metaphors for their seasons.
We missed Carrick as well, not so much for his passing because I thought Herrera did better there than I thought he would in controlling the play, but it was Carrick's positioning in protecting against the counter that we missed.
All in all, a performance to be proud of undone by a great manager with a win at all costs mentality. Yesterday still gives more reason to look forward to next season.

I've been so gutted (and still am) to even make a simple comment about yesterday. Can't wait the next season to come and wipe the floor with this scummy unwatchable cowards. I agree, Mourinho has set them up like he always does against the top team in form but I wouldn't swap their game with our as of now even if we lost (undeservedly). 71% possession at Stamford Bridge, I can't remember seeing that in my lifetime, the only thing missing were goals. It's not worth talking about what would be if Rooney scored that, I guess completely different outcome, they'd need to attack and would be more open which would drastically increase our chances to score a couple more, like Barcelona has done to his Real Madrid team (5-0). Mourinho can be cocky as much as he like in his post match interview now when he got a result, but if we took a lead he would be singing a different song now. Looking forward to the next season matches against this..... tactical genius!
