It's a fucking big ask from Rooney that.

I think Smalling will stay on the right of defence and be partnered by Blackett. Maybe Van Persie gets the start over Falcao as well.

Huge blow, going to be a tough task now.

It's a fucking big ask from Rooney that. I agree, but who else do we have? I guess Herrera but it would be even bigger ask than Rooney. I was thinking about Valencia but can't see that working with his non existent left foot and a lack of awareness. I don't have any calms with Blackett, McNair and Smalling for me.

At least something to be joyful about!

Not panic (yet) but it certainly is awful timing for Carrick and Blind to get injured. Worst case scenario we lose this one, which wouldn't be the worst thing to happen this season, but I'm still not counting us out.

I think Rooney back in midfield isn't the biggest issue in the world, he's not been great lately anyway. Any of the other strikers can come in and do a similar job in terms of keeping their central defence occupied to enable our wide areas to carry on linking up as brilliantly as they have done recently. I wouldn't be messing with the dynamics out wide, keep it as it is.
Rooney into midfield, Falcao, RVP or even Wilson up front and 2 straight swaps in defence, Blackett and Shaw in. Still have momentum and think we'll put in a good display.

We don't have a proper holding midfielder when Carrick is out. Blind is Ok but he has a long way to go until become a reliable player there. Take him out as well and we're truly and awfully fecked. One in the summer is a must buy, it appears now more than a box to box one. But not the time and place to talk about that now.
If not Rooney, then who? Fellaini? Ugh!

I like that logic - he's shit anyway, might as well play him in midfield
But I agree, hopefully Fellaini will put on one of his best performances and stop them before they even get to deal with Rooney in midfield

Like Carrjacker said recently, "squeeze them up, squeeze them up!"

What I mean is we're not going to miss him that much up front so asking him to do a job in midfield isn't costing us up front. Of course he's not going to do as good a job in there as Carrick, losing Carrick is like having the heart ripped out of our side as I think he's been without a doubt the most important player in our resurgence. I actually think it makes this game more interesting now. If we can go out there and put in another good display despite being hit by injuries then people will have to seriously sit up and take notice and maybe Van Gaal will finally get the praise he deserves rather than the media claiming we're playing well now because Rooney had to move up front through a stroke of luck. If we don't play that well, we can blame it on the injuries.

Just sign Schneiderlin You cracked it! Or Carvalho. Or Kondogbia. Or Lars Bender. Anyway, what are our thoughts of installing Angel di Maria back in the side? Somewhere...

I'd go with the team you've suggested personally.
Could have Young at LB and Di Maria in front but I'd prefer those three combo's to stay as close as possible. Possibly could go upfront but that didn't really work last time,

Anyway, what are our thoughts of installing Angel di Maria back in the side? Somewhere... There's room for him in the land of TR, someone suggested playing Young in the holding role so that'd free up some room. The salt in the wound though was someone actually agreeing with the suggestion
