I didn't say Young was bad offensively, I'm just putting a counter argument to the "Young played well, di Maria isn't" and from a tactical point of view, rather than form at the moment. And like I said, it's not that di Maria was in a bad form last two matches, quite opposite and all that while found a way to be productive. Both players brings something different to the table, it's a hard decision to make for van Gaal I'm sure of it, lets see what's his idea at the end.

You've said yourself that Young doesn't deserved to be dropped, Di Maria's been blow par all season so I don't know why you think it's going to be any different now.Alright the system has changed and we are now more balanced, would you bring in Falcao for Rooney? I don't think so. Young's been an integral part of our recent performances and has offered more offensively and defensively, very crucial to creating chances and making our goals. 1. Yes I did and I've explained why. 2. No, Rooney is a different beast, incomparable to Young - di Maria argument. 3. Defensively yes, but offensively > in your opinion, mine quite differs.

Aye and it's a flimsy explanation You are saying Di Maria should start, class over form right, arguably same could be said Falcao/Rooney based on previous seasons. Young had Walker, Sterling/Can and Hutton for toast, his link up play with Blind and Fellaini caused them so many problems. Di Maria can pop up with the assist but other than that he's struggled getting knocked off the ball too easily against physical defenders and giving it away constantly.

And lets not forget that di maria has lost the ball in key areas which has put pressure on our defence and we could possibly have conceded. The liverpool game is proof of that.

Di Maria's form and particularly his passing is as erratic as fuck atm, definitely starting on the bench if common sense prevails.

I agree with Miroslav, Young is like Fellaini good at linking up and opening up spaces for others. I thought he was brilliant against Spurs but Liverpool he was good at keeping the ball and defensively and providing a foil for Blind to play at. He wasn't that devastating as he was against spurs, Liverpool's weaker side was Moreno and it was exposed.
I would play Di Maria because he offers the unpredictability we will need against City, fair enough he is inconsistent and gives the ball away but that is from trying something positive. He overcomplicates his life sometimes but at least he is trying risky passes but the way we are playing now I feel his pace and dribbling skills could be vital to provide mata space on the other side. IMO Di maria in terms of crossing he has a variety unlike young who will always try and cut inside hence the unpredictably I said he offers.
Whichever one plays will have a positive effect but I just prefer Angel but Young as you lot said he deserves his place for the way he has played, I won't complain if he starts Sunday.

Their form of the last 7 matches(all competitions): LLWLLWL
Scoring 8 and conceding 8.
Not looking great for them right now.

I'm also in the Young camp. Di Maria has done nothing to show why he should start. Even in the last match, despite his assist, he showed his negative qualities.
Charlie says he'd play him because of his unpredictability. Well, I wouldn't play him because of that unpredictability. I just wouldn't feel confident with him. And I don't think that playing one over the other is going to make us more defensive or offensive. LVG will go into this game the same way he has in the past couple games. We'll try to maintain possession and apply pressure until City slip. That will be the plan (in very simple terms) regardless of which he chooses.

City will be worried, says LVGLouis van Gaal believes Manchester City will be worried by Manchester United’s good form when they visit Old Trafford next Sunday.City took the honours in the last derby clash at the Eithad Stadium in November when they prevailed 1-0 thanks to Sergio Aguero’s goal. The Premier League champions dominated that game as United registered just two shots on target, but Van Gaal’s side have improved since then and notched their fifth straight win when they beat Aston Villa 3-1 at home on Saturday, leapfrogging City in the Premier League table as a result. "Of course form plays a part in the spirit of our opponents and also our players," said the Dutchman. "We have more confidence now and when they lose a point then it's also sitting in their minds. Maybe it plays a role but that is dependable on the individual player and I don't know the individual players of Manchester City so well. "But we have a lot of confidence and we haven't lost so many times at home.” Van Gaal also believes his side will be unrecognisable from the side that slipped to defeat at the Etihad. "It was another Manchester United, I believe," he said. "That was more in the start of the process and now we are in the end of the process. Now we have developed the team. "I think also the confidence of our players is very high at the moment but also our performances show that so it's not the same Manchester United." www.teamtalk.com/news/2483/9791744/Manchester-United-form-will-worry-Manchester-City-says-Louis-van-Gaal

We're favourites for this match, yet they're more fancied to finish 2nd than us.. Don't quite know how that works but fair enough.
The biggest thing for me is concentrating on our own game, we can dominate possession against these men like we have been doing all season against most sides. Their defence is aging and not in the greatest form, so we can seriously hurt them in the final 3rd. If we start worrying about nullifying Toure more than playing our possession based game we're going to come unstuck as if it becomes more of a battle and a scrappy game, I'd favour City. As long as the players have the confidence to continue playing the way we have been of late then I think we'll win and win in style.

I think this is the match everyone in the league starts to take us and the manager seriously. Beating Spurs and Liverpool in the fashion we did was brilliant but beating the reigning champions who have spanked us recently will be on another level for me.

absolutely, beating any of those top three delivers a poke to the eye. I'd be happy bitch slapping arsenal and drawing the other two though.

Still can't bring myself to be confident about this one. The derbies in the last few years have done me in.
Common logic should make us favourites but City seem to keep saving their best for us. Forget current form, I fully expect Silva, Aguero and Toure to all have absolute stormers.
Just hope I'm wrong.
On the whole Di Maria/Young thing, I don't really mind who starts. This time last week I'd have said Young but the trio of him, Blind and Fellaini didn't really work as well against Villa so I wouldn't be as bothered about breaking it up now. But what I will say is it's an absolute credit to Young that this is even a debate worth having. I'd have laughed in peoples' face if they told me this'd be a genuine question 9 months ago.
