Liverpool's £7.5m offer for Chelsea star, club 'quietly confident' of doing deal

Liverpool have repeatedly been linked with a move for Chelsea's second choice goalkeeper Petr Cech. The stories won't go away and seem to pop to the surface every couple of weeks or so. The latest claims come on Saturday from British newspaper The Sun and they explain Liverpool are formulating a £7.5m offering which would see Cech join them on loan next season.
The money splits into a £1m fee for Chelsea, which is what they usually charge for higher level loans, and the player's wages of £125,000 per week. Cech has a year left on his contract and Chelsea would then have to accept he'd be leaving for free. Should Chelsea want a big transfer fee then they'll have to look at a permanent move this summer.
The Sun claim that a loan would allow Cech to see if he liked living in or near Liverpool and give him time to decide whether to move his family or just play for the year at Anfield. It's explained that Liverpool could be a shop window for Cech and attract other interest but why would Liverpool be so willing to offer themselves as such for a temporary solution? In addition, Cech doesn't really need a shop window, it's not as if people have forgotten about him and at his age it's probably more likely he'd get a better deal this year rather than waiting for a season. On that basis The Sun's claims wouldn't really make sense.
Nevertheless it's stated Liverpool are confident they can beat competition from elsewhere and get a deal done to take Cech to Anfield for next season.
