How many people on here thinks that we'll go for another left back in the summer?
This question in my head is triggered by his constant injuries, struggles to adapt in the way we're playing and very average performances, especially in defense > being caught out high up the pitch very often when played. I know he's just arrived and is just 19 years old but still. Basically, do people think he should get some competition for that spot, assuming you disagree with Blind being played there and Rojo as a main LCB without shifting him on two positions and thus not allowing him to settle properly into one and learn?

I think Shaw needs competition more than a replacement
Ricardo Rodriguez from Wolfsburg is exactly the guy we need to give him just that
godly rotation

I dont think we need a left back and we need a right back. Let Reece James be the backup left back.

It simply is not healthy for him nor for us to have just one option there. It's also not good enough for Manchester United Football Club to have just " a players who can fill in and do the job" when Shaw isn't playing, for this and that reason. Regardless of the name, I just wanted to know would people like another great left back in the team and how much is it necessary for us to be a top there?

I'd like to see James get some action, not sure how he's been doing for the reserves as I don't watch them closely enough but he's just signed a new deal and in the few apps he's had hasn't looked out of his depth.
Like I said in the other thread I wouldn't be surprised but I wouldn't go spending another 20-30m on one either, a reliable back up would do.

Assume Shaw is injured/suspended and one of the first choice CB's and we're playing some important match against a top side. Can you honestly see Reece being thrown there and perform, without shifting someone else and thus shifting the whole defence/midfield to accommodate the new tactics? From what I saw and concluded, could be wrong of course, we do need another top left back. It's worth to say that almost every top side have two equally good players for each position.

Not for me, we have plenty of cover and competition there. He's been underwhelming but he's 19, has struggled with injuries this season and is getting used to taking that big step up in his career so I'm not going to be critical of him just yet. He most certainly needs time and in the meantime: James, Young, Blind and Rojo will provide adequate enough cover in that area.

Yeah forgot about him. There's plenty of cover there. You don't just lose faith in a 19 year old you only just paid £30million for either.

No, it's abig step up for a 19-yearold, he will need time to get used to the system and he has been hampered by injuries ao cannot get any continuity in his game this season. If we are to spend on defence, it's the other 3 positions at the back need strenghtening if anything.

Is it not a bit worrying that a 19 year old picking so many injuries since he came? I don't remember him being so crocked last year at Southampton.
And please, just not the famous "it's us, it was inevitable to happen" reference.
I certainly hope it's like you two are saying, but the first signs are not promising.

Just one note: Against Arsenal last night, 3 players have changed at left back spot.
Giving the youngsters a chance in the big league and big matches is all well and good, but only when you have a settled first eleven who are playing as a team. We don't have that. If you put inexperienced youngster in the shitness, he will always tend to pick up the syndrome too, not to heal it.

Different training, more intense, and being asked to do different things on the pitch he hasn't done before, all adds up to a rough first seasons initiation for him. He'll be stronger for it next season.....as will the others newbies.

He'll be stronger for it next season.....as will the others newbies. That's a fact, I just pray to God that his body will withstand all efforts and difficulties. But he needs a competition, a pure left back, not the player shifted from another position to fill in. I don't believe any one of them youngsters could sustain the same level if the team is not a well oiled machine. That's my worry. I'm afraid also that maybe the new 150m will not be enough to fix everything if we're to spunk half of that sum on just one player (I have Pogba and Bale on my mind here). Two centerbacks, two midfielders, a right back, winger and IMO a left back. That's just too much new players but it's needed I think. If you add a striker plus... ugh.

Some of that squad will have to go anyway, simply no room for them all, so we'll recoup some of that Summer layout. You don't want any more than three or four incoming at any one time or we'll be in the same boat next season as we are this season to some extent.
Defence and midfield are priority, so it depends how many bodies he feels need to be brought in those areas as to how the other areas are filled. But it's feasible he could bring in four, 1xCB, 1xCM, 1xRB, 1xCS.
