I'd be surprised to see two, don't see the need unless more than one leaves from Evans, Jones, Smalling. The prices thrown around do seem excessive but to bring in someone of top quality we are going to be talking around 35m. Spending 60m ish on two though would be a fair chunk of dosh and unnecessary really. Yep, I share your opinion. Do you think Otamendi and Rojo would work, they are quite similar, gung-ho defenders. Plus do you think his height would be an issue, he has a great leap on him but there will be more crosses flying and aggressive strikers to deal with in the PL. We aren't the tallest side as it is.

They work perfectly for Argentina, so I assume they'd work in United very well too.
Otamendi isn't the highest of defenders but has a great jump and aggressiveness.

Do you think Otamendi and Rojo would work Yes, without a doubt. As Nemanja said, their aggressivity is unbelievable: they just don't give the opposition any breathing space, and they're both fast and strong, able to give a proper physical/athletic battle to anyone. With us playing so high, it's important to have that type of aggressivity and pace at the back imo. And it's necessary in England anyway. From a tactical point of view, I also think they can work just fine. As shown by their Argentinian experience, or at club level: Rojo has been excellent on all front I think, and Otamendi is excellent in a tactically-much-more-demanding league. Plus do you think his height would be an issue Not at all. Nemanja is spot on once again imo. They both have great jump, especially (and surprisingly maybe) Otamendi. Otamendi is one of my favourite target for CB, just after Varane in fact (who imo has the potential to be that good).

Not really seen them partnered for Argentina, I think they did once or twice at World Cup though I seem to recall Demichelis being brought on and Rojo shifted to LB but I certainly don't watch them religiously.
In terms of the height, it's more of general over look of the whole team, bar Rojo/Smalling, Carrick and Fellaini, we are lacking as it is. I just have some reservations but other defenders have their downsides as well, there's no doubting his quality as a defender.

And then:
So, who's lying and who are the supposed two clubs in disguise? Would we offer to soon-32yrs old a 3 year deal?

yep we would, I hope we didn't though. The only thing Rafael or whoever will be signed will learn from Alves is to dress like a dumbass, Luke Shaw might appreciate his fashion sense.

The only Brazilian we should be signing is Roberto Firmino. Either than that meh since Danilo is at Madrid already.

I'm really not keen on Alves. I would rather Clyne, Coleman or Carvajal should Real decide to sell.

Carvajal please, better than Coleman and younger also. maybe cheaper since they have Danilo. (i can imagine Everton will want like 30 million for him)

No way in hell Carvajal would be cheap (contract until 30.06.2019) and very unlikely to be sold anyway, at least not this summer. They'd be mad to sell him without a proper look at Danilo first and how he'll settle in.

The Real Madrid cast offs tend to be cheaper than the one they've brought in though. Bale in €100m, Ozil out €50m, James in €90m, Di Maria out €75m.
Danilo in €30m, Carvajal out €25m? Do for me.

He's got to be worth an enquiry at least, he's the best option out there. He won't be cheap but I'd rather see us pay £25/30mil for him than £15/20mil for Clyne or Coleman.

I don't think there's anyone normal who would say no to Carvajal even for a 35-40m pounds, but in this moment in time, if Carvajal is not attainable I'd take even Dani Alves for a year.
