I could easily see Alves being as useful for us as Maicon was for City. I don't like the idea of signing aged stars who could only be after one last pay-day. That's the sort of thing nouveau riche or ambitious smaller clubs do, not one of the biggest clubs in the world with one of the biggest budgets.

Really a tough call about him, although in regression, still one of the best around and if Rafa is to be sold, Alves would come very handy for a back up option if anything.
But, looking at the ones we could go for if we exclude Lahm and Carvajal as a none or slim chances of signing them, maybe one of these:
1. Stephan Lichsteiner - Juventus FC 2. Sebastian Jung - Wolfsburg 3. Juanfran – Atletico Madrid
Jung has just signed for Wolfsburg last season but as the youngest of the 3 and with very good season behind him, could be worth a try. He's not been mentioned anywhere though.

That's my issue with him, he'll clearly see us as one last big payday. As I've said before I wasn't his biggest fan when he was in his prime, I'm not going to change my mind now he's 32. Definitely 1 to stay clear of for me. If we're not going to pay out for a quality, young right back this summer I'd rather just stick with Valencia for another year with Rafa there as competition.

Besides, Valencia has been doing really well. It's because he isn't one of those flashy players pundits like to talk about, but he has actually been excellent this season and rock solid at the back in general. Even more so now that the team is starting to click. He si not the best right back all right, but he is far from the average player that people too often describe. Personally, I would either go for Clyne or Coleman, or make the "cheaper big move" for someone like Carvajal, or push for someone like Marquinhos who can play really well on the right flank or at CB and rotate him with Valencia.

One of the possible "outs" 39 million, really. surely worth at least 50 mill who the hell would we replace him with, Leno is slightly inferior for sure (more than slightly actually), call Chelsea and get Cortouis (i really suck with names) (he would cost as much, if not more because we are buying him from chelsea)

I think the tweet is saying De Gea is closer to signing a new deal with United worth 39m.

right, just on edge when it comes to real madrid and de gea
also Del bosque really would select Casillas over De Gea no matter what.
i honestly think the Spanish FA need to let him go, they've been pretty bad considering who they have, he hasn't done enough to blood new players to the national team, despite the sheer quality (probably the biggest playing pool available, all are quality, even more so than germany) yet he keepts these same players, who are quality, but aren't better than some of the younger players, definitely not

Manchester United take pole position in race with Liverpool to sign Danny IngsManchester United have become favourites to sign Danny Ings after holding talks with Burnley about a summer deal. Liverpool maintain an interest in the player and were prepared to exploit a Premier League loophole to guarantee a transfer in the summer. But Louis van Gaal is attempting to use the same method to trump their rivals and secure the services of the 22-year-old. Ings has scored nine goals in his first season in the Premier League and United consider him to be a future England international. Van Gaal was particularly impressed by Ings’ performance against United at Old Trafford in February when he scored in Burnley’s 3-1 defeat. Ings has become one of the most sought-after strikers in Europe and United are keen to ensure that they win the race for his signature. Real Sociedad, Tottenham and Manchester City are all interested in the player, but Sportsmail understands that United have opened dialogue with Burnley to hurry through a move. The player is out of contract in the summer and due to his age Burnley would be set to receive around £5million in compensation if he moved to a domestic rival. But, under Premier League Rule U8, an English team can agree a fee and sign a pre-contract with Ings and the club which guarantees a transfer in the summer. Liverpool wanted to sign Ings in the January transfer window and loan him back to Burnley, but were prevented doing so by Premier League regulations. Burnley were adamant they wanted to hold on to the forward until the end of the season in the hope he would help keep them up and the club are still in with a chance of staying in the top flight. www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-3037188/Manchester-United-pole-position-battle-Liverpool-sign-Burnley-s-Danny-Ings.html__________________________________________________________________________ I guess he'd come cheap, still very young and English, the main advantages. I only hope he's not coming here (if coming at all) to be a second choice.

I wouldn't mind us taking a punt on Ings, as long as he isn't our main attacking signing. It's likely that we'll bin off Falcao and van Persie in the summer, so we'll need a couple to come in. We will need a top quality player, someone like Lacazette would do for me, but a prospect like Ings could be a good signing as a squad player.

I like Ings but ultimately is he good enough for us, I'm not so sure, goals have dried up for him recently but he is an all rounder he's got good pace, strength, link up play so would suit our system. Rooney should be the main man upfront so RVP, Ings and Wilson would do as alternatives for me.

It's look increasingly likely that Rafa will off in the summer(which I think is a huge shame) and that Clyne could be his replacement. Now as sad as I would be to see Rafa leave, I'd be very happy to see Clyne come in. Some people don't rate Clyne, but I've liked him for a while and for me, he's now one of the best RB's in the league. He's still young and he'll only improve.
I've been very, very impressed with how Valencia has improved this season, playing RB. He's been fantastic recently and I think he'll continue to improve. Now if we were to sell Rafa - who Louis seems not to rate - and bring in Clyne, that would leave us with Valencia and Clyne as our two main RB options. For some, that isn't good enough but I'd be very happy with that going into next season.
