Because that's his release clause and Bilbao is not a side to negotiate with over price as we have seen. Nothing to do with him being world class or not.

Reading another article, looks like he was recommended to the club by Scholes and the other guys who own Salford City F.C. Not much of a risk, they liked the look of him when he took part in a trial and they've snapped him up on what will be small wages, be interesting to see how he gets on in the reserves.
