Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo Scout Says "I prefer Memphis Depay"Ed van Steijn, who scouted Cristiano Ronaldo for Manchester United, admits he is hugely impressed with PSV Eindhoven winger Memphis Depay, and even prefers him over the Portuguese at the same stage in his career. The Netherlands international has been strongly linked with following in Ronaldo's footsteps by moving to Old Trafford, although he did sign a new deal with PSV last summer to banish transfer speculation for this season at least. Manchester United would be well served by Depay, Van Steijn clearly feels, rating the young winger even above Ronaldo at the same age. Indeed, Van Steijn believes it took Ronaldo some time to eliminate mistakes from his game, while Depay is better formed. "If I compare him to a young Cristiano Ronaldo at the time, then Depay has more strings to his bow. I like him better", the scout told Dutch daily theAlgemeen Dagblad. Ronaldo did even the same things wrong at Manchester United that he did when he was 17", Van Steijn added. Depay has been on fire for PSV so far this season, scoring 16 goals in 22 Eredivisie games and putting the Eindhoven side (error in the article, says Rotterdam) squarely on course to capture the Dutch crown. He also hit six goals in nine games in PSV's Europa League campaign, which was ended by Andre Villas-Boas' Zenit St. Petersburg side last month. www.insidefutbol.com/2015/03/07/manchester-uniteds-cristiano-ronaldo-scout-says-i-prefer-memphis-depay/193462/?

Yeah. I thought at first it deflected out of the wall until I saw that video. There were comments on another forums about poor goalkeeping but when you look at it more closely, the goalie couldn't do much more. Trajectory of the ball is indeed wicked.

From Holland: Depay to Man United for £21m in summer looks on according to reportsPosted by SPORT WITNESS on March 11, 2015 at 20:58 in Sport Witness Football According to claims in Holland on Wednesday evening, Memphis Depay is all set to move to Manchester United during the summer transfer window for €30m, that amount converts to around £21m at today’s exchange rates. Depay is one of several Dutch players who Manchester United have been repeatedly linked to and it’s stated by SoccerNews that Louis van Gaal is something of a father figure for the young footballer and has helped his career progress. Van Gaal took Depay to the world Cup in Brazil and the experience helped elevate the young player. The fee that would be paid is an ‘immense amount’ according to the report but doesn’t seem to be by Premier League standards. SoccerNews headline their piece 'Immense amount that Van Gaal has for PSV's star player leaks out', Manchester United would obviously be happy to pay such an amount and it’s that which has apparently pushed them into pole position and on course to complete the deal. PSV have already publicly accepted that a sale will be happening this summer and it was known that Depay was only interested in a move to one of Europe’s top clubs, having turned Tottenham Hotspur down during the last summer transfer window. That the supposed transfer fee has leaked out is an indication to the Dutch that this is a claim which could be more than simply a transfer rumour. Time will tell if that’s true or not. It could be that Dutch reports are getting a little too carried away after compiling British reports and making too much of a fee supposedly leaking... but reports of Depay's impending exit have grown in Holland this week. De Telegraaf claimed this week that Depay's exit from PSV was more than likely given his need to grow and SoccerNews stated last month that the player was waiting for an offer from a club like Manchester United. AD newspaper have said the probability is now high that Depay goes to Manchester United and when a PSV fan website re-published that story - Depay himself favourited it on Twitter. sportwitness.ning.com/forum/topics/from-holland-depay-father-figure-van-gaalwww.psvultras.nl/?p=23357One in the bag.

Yeah, I think this one is in the bag to be fair. LVG being our manager would be a huge factor for sure.

Memphis vs Feyenoord two days ago. In all faireness, I am far from convinced by that type of performance: poor touch, poor passing, poor decision making (I didn't watch the game, but if that's supposed to be the highlights and the best moments, then we better sign Lennon or Johnson lol). Seriously though, I still have reservation about him. I believe there are much better young players out there (Son, Dybala, De Bruyne to name a few)

He also scored a wonderful goal in this match. I'm bringing to you a post from the RedCafe newbs section posted by a fella that follows him through the ranks of PSV and that is re-posted by one of the mods over there: I didn't watch every match he played but from what I saw and from a progress this guy is making I am more than convinced that he has a very bright future. It's encouraging to know and see that he's very open to listen, learn and cut off his weaknesses that aren't predominant in his overall game, quite contrary.
