Dear oh dear. Taking a leaf out of Rafa’s book now. Never thought he’d be one to take the bait that easily with him around such a long time.
But the fact he has to go out and prove or disprove something is odd for such a seemingly thick skinned fellow. Place to do the talking is on the pitch.
“If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck and quacks like a duck, then it’s probably a duck”
You can dress up anything you want with statistics and he’s probably right on most of them. But the fact of the matter is we done nothing in the first half v West Ham and started the 2nd half the exact same as we finished the first until eventually starting to play only after they scored.
Having saw that in his presser today it’s really difficult not to think that this is the kind of stuff that goes on with the players in game preparation. May well be why we see a lack of flair from us if the players are bombarded with stats. The players will have heard that today too and will think everything is fine and dandy (until we go behind or the clock's against us).
He’s right we dominated possession and not much of that was long balls as Big Same might have tried to imply. But what’s the point in dominating possession with short medium range passes if you’re still end up on the back foot because of it and create absolutely zero from it.
Ultimately we nabbed a result because of the long ball and was a desperate last resort from us. Our only really guilt edged chance fell to Falcao. RVP could have possibly done better with his 2 chances but given his form he was doing well to hit the target from those shots cuz of the difficulty of them. Falcao;s was the only time we got in behind them
Just a bizarre move from him today

Well he's got the attention and the press on his back now ----- and by doing this he's protecting his players
I prefer this than the "Boring" United or the LVG = Moyes, or the dejected Falcao, ADM and Rooney features we saw earlier in the week
One thing's for sure Moyes would never have done that lol

He's right tho. Press are 'supposed' to deal with "facts" but whine like little girls and get freaked out when presented with them in a forceful manner

Pfff, I really don't get all the fuss with this. What message does that send to the fans? Why was the official making that face? What would the players say? Why are we not playing Rooney up front, etc.

Ex footballers turned pundits, gotta love 'em to bits.
If LvG had Scholes and Keane available Rooney wouldn't be playing in the middle, simples. He doesn't. He has to make do with what he's got and it's not enough in the middle to control games against the mid-table sides, everyone has got stronger and more aggressive.
Plus Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra all gone and no adequate replacements to fill at least one of those central holes. Then the injuries for the first half of the season didn't help.
We can't control a game from the back, and the middle, and in turn adequately support the forwards in a lot of games. Until the bottom half of that spine is sorted in the Summer LvG will do exactly what he feels is right based on the opposition's weakness as he sees it. Sometimes it will pay off, others it won't but that's what we're running on atm.

I feel for LVG, no one has supported him. Media and ex-players are always criticizing him. When Moyes was here every so called pundit said "Give him time".

What a load of old nonsense this is turning into. Van Gaal is very much his own man and manager and will do exactly as he pleases....remind you of anyone? I know what Allardyce said was a little tongue in cheek but the media as usual latch onto it and the next day they've got stats "proving" we're a long ball team, no harm in the manager actually proving we're not.
Scholes talking about United fans expecting high intensity, risk taking football is another sign that we're still stuck in the Fergie era..... fans, the media and ex players all need to accept and understand that those days are gone, Fergie was a different type of manager to Van Gaal and that gung ho approach is not one which normally goes hand in hand with top managers. People are still completely doing a disservice to Fergie by expecting every manager that follows him to produce the same style of football, he was one of a kind. Simple as that really.
Van Gaal has one job this season and that is to get us back into the top 4. I really don't care how he manages to do this as long as we do it. The performances of late haven't been good enough but when all is said and done we are still well on course for a top 4 position. If we manage to sustain a place in the top 4, he's got a summer to get the balance of the squad completely right, which is lacking regardless of what anyone says.
Next season I will expect more and am sure we'll get it but I suggest anyone expecting to see us playing blistering, direct, risky attacking football gets themselves ready for disappointment. Even with quality additions to the squad it won't be in Van Gaal's managerial nature to play that way, it'll still be possession based, patient football but hopefully with the right personnel in the right positions we'll have much more cutting edge in the final 3rd.

A VG side in full flow, with all the correct parts in place, is more than a match for anything Fergie served up but as you say, it's possession based and controlled, that doesn't mean no pace, not exciting, though, just different.

The last four seasons we were not exactly playing amazing football. maybe a couple of games here and there but on the majority we where grinding results out.

That's true... the difference being SAF had us winning the league whilst grinding out results. It's taking a while for some people to accept the fact that he's gone and his success will never be replicated. LVG is solely focused on top 4. He has us advancing in the FA Cup, but we've got to admit that we've had a very kind draw up to this point.

All I took from that article is this : 'Maybe he can better play in a striker's position but then I have a problem in midfield.' Which is something we've been talking about all along, once we get a proper midfielder then Rooney can go back to playing up front
