Whatever happens now and the Managerial options we will take ... what's the best way to secure Champions League football next season ? Continue with LVG - give it a throw with Jose - Have Giggs seconded by SAF (or the opposite) ? Scramble Mark Hughes from Stoke ........... at the moment every scenario is getting column space FFS. Hardly attractive for the current squad, any future transfers............. oh and .............eventually for a new future manager Is it not better to bite the bullet and push forward with what we have - build on the spirit of the Chelsea showing - and pull ourselves up by the scruff of the neck ? I think the players turned up for LVG (and the fans) against Chelsea and they will do so again against Swansea and maybe we can take the elusive win and 3 points against our bogey team. Calls of "let's work throught this and stand together" from Roo Schweini, Mata, Ander, etc. Becoming our manager after SAF is becoming a wickedly hot potato - LVG at least has the arrogance of coping with that but also for wanting to leave his own legacy when he retires having built up with talented young players for our next future coach. Bloody Hell even Scholesy said last night that LVG deserves more time ................ www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/paul-scholes-gives-verdict-manchester-10660725

Always risky getting rid of a manager mid season. At least you know VG has the experience behind him to turn it around, and it's not a bad side. It's just got a few issues and shortcomings / personnel deficiencies

According to Ogden United don't want Mourinho (hallelujah) and Ed isn't struck on Giggsy.
So LVG for the foreseeable seems the way to go, yes we have problems but problems that can be rectified with a change in tact and some help in Jan.

And what happens if against Swansea we go back to another dire performance? We thought after the loserfool game we would kick on, we didn't. We thought against Everton we would kick on, we didn't. One better performance against a shit Chelski team still doesn't give me confidence we are suddenly going to go on a winning streak. VG (for me) has done nothing to suggest he's the one to take us forward. Give him the next game by all means to see if miracles do happen at Xmas if not lines need to be drawn somewhere. We can't keep expecting it will all fall into place just by wishing it alone.

I agree Hammy. A convincing victory vs Swansea or else it's time to part ways.

If he slumps back down in the next 3 or 4 then I think he'll walk himself. In which case it's awkward and you might well see a Giggs / Ferguson ticket till the end of the season.

I don't buy into this comparison between VG and SAF. Yes it's true, SAF WAS probably one game away from the sack and the rest they say is history but when SAF first came we weren't even a mid table side, not much money to speak of, no decent training facilities, youth teams were still to be invented, most of the first team were piss heads and we had spent years in the wilderness. A million miles from what SAF left us just a few short seasons ago. One of the most overly exaggerated comparisons I've heard in a long while. Why is VG (for now) continuing? Out of the article posted by Dave I'd be more inclined to go for this.
"Van Gaal is too old to build a dynasty, but United have invested heavily in him and to sack him would be an admission of failure"

I still believe they can't stand by him much longer unless we start winning games. Beat Swansea on Saturday and show the same spirit as the Chelsea game then fair enough, he'll have saved his job for the time-being but go back to anything like the Stoke performance and fail to win the game then a change will be imminent. Staying with him too long could prove incredibly costly unless results pick up.

Yup, top 4 is an absolute must, so much that it doesn't matter who gets us there. If it's Van Gaal - great, that would make me really happy personally because I dread the idea of becoming one of "those" clubs that sack their managers every season or so, but at the same time I don't wanna miss on another season of CL. I've been disappointed by Van Gaal and the team this season, thought we would build on the games we played last season, but we kinda slumped from there. It's still not too late to turn the season around, but if they can't pull it in the next couple games then it's time for a change.
