Who said the article wasn't spot on? My post was about the media in global, reflecting on Ed's comment, not this particular piece. There's still one part in it I don't agree with: "Van Gaal’s stubbornness can be a weakness and a strength and, this season, it has proven to be both, particularly when he persisted with the flawed 3-5-2 system early in the campaign."He blames the system here like many others. Philosophy is what counts, not formation.
I may go on about how that system kept us near the top of the table and picked up some crucial points after Leicester debacle but that story has already been told many times.

I read the article and it was a positive counter piece to his colleague, bollock-chops, previous nonsense.
They all still miss or underplay the single biggest hurdle VG had to deal with, I don't think any of them have any real clue just how badly the wheels had come off after Moyes. Man managing that and turning it around to this point after two thirds of a season is very good going in human terms - money and big name signings mean fuck all when you're dealing with human psychology.
I'd go as far as to say if he finishes second in the league he should be voted manager of the year, if your overall starting point and finishing point are factors. He's had most to do out of all the managers.

"I expect that he [Giggs] will be the next manager after I am gone," Van Gaal told MUTV. "Now I have the responsibility. He has tasks that he has to perform like the players. What he has to do, for me, he does it very well."

I know it's cliché blaming it on the injuries, but I think in United's case it really made a huge difference because once everyone was fit it didn't take LVG long to find his best 11

I don't think we'd have been toe to toe with Chelsea but I think we'd be a damn sight closer than we are now, performances would have been more coherent too.

It's been the case for a number of seasons now.... I really wonder when this recurring problem will ever meet its end. There's got to be some reason why we are the club that consistently has the greatest struggles with injuries- even though we haven't had any European football this season, we still have the largest number of injuries. I, for one, find it head-scratchingly funny.

I don't think it's the number of injuries, it's that they're coming in an tough moment when Moyes/Van Gaal are trying to discover the best balance in the team. I don't remember it being such an issue under SAF mainly because he knew his players and his formation

I've been saying for years that something wasn't right with all the injuries we pick up.
I am not calling for a conspiracy lol, but surely there are things we could improve on that front? For years I've been comparing our overall fitness with Chelsea's who have had a good record if I am not mistaken: do they have different methods (training, fitness, etc.)? Or are we simply unluckily buying players who have a tendency to pick up those small injuries every now and then and Chelsea aren't?
But I don't think this has affected our season as much as we would want to believe. It took LVG time to settle in, and to get the player to adopt his "philosophy", it wouldn't have changed much imo. However, those repetitive injuries could have a big influence next season.

It's probably a mix of high intensity training and injury prone players, plus bull in a china shop Jonesy. It is an issue especially at the back, I can't think of a season where we've had fully fit centre backs for the majority but to be fair over the years I think we've coped pretty well and better than most would.
If you are looking at Chelsea for comparison, they are made up of vast experience and players in their prime 25-28, could that be a factor?

I can't think of a season where we've had fully fit centre backs for the majority 07/08 was the last one - hard to believe with what followed but Rio played 51 games that season and the regular back 4 along with Ronaldo were our highest appearance-makers. Then Rio's problems started, he never played 30 league games again. Vidic was solid until 11/12 but he'd had a few injuries before his knee popped and that was that for him. Evans, Smalling and Jones still haven't really played a full season between them.

Is there a site like physioroom for other leagues? I wonder how PL injuries compare to say La liga
