I must admit, at it's height for me Barça played the best football I've ever seen. It was a joy to watch them pass the ball about in the middle, with Xavi and Iñiesta destroying teams by playing simple 5 yard passes and wearing the opposition down to such an extent that they needed oxygen masks before half time. I agree with edwood. To play this system we need, well, Xavi and Iñiesta and there isn't too many of them about. Going to be a really interesting summer to see who stays and who goes and most of all, the system that we're going to play. It's true SAF is gone and we have to move on but United is famous for its swashbuckling style and I will be disappointed if we revert to a George Grahams 1-0 to the Arsenil even if we do win things.

No VG side has ever reverted to a George Graham style of play, no reason it should happen now. Put Hummels and Pogba in that current side under VG and you've got a CL cup winning side.

Although I've heard the 1-0 to the Arsenal phrase I'm not old enough to fully know what you're talking about . All I can assume is that they were a side that concentrated on being solid and trying to nick a goal. I don't believe this is Van Gaal's nature, I firmly believe after finishing top 4 this season and getting the balance of the side sorted in the summer we're going to see a more impressive United side in an attacking sense. Going to be by far the most interesting summer we've experienced, plenty of incomings and outgoings. Nevermind Hummels, I think a world class box to box midfielder like Pogba in this side would make the world of difference alone as it also gives us a new striker.....Rooney.

If you ever heard the expression "BORING BORING, ARSENAL" that's where it came from. Fucking ruthlessly efficient, just ruthlessly dull too

So, passing of Barcelona '09 with a pace of Real Madrid '14 and ruthlessness of Bayern '13 is the Manchester United '16. What an ultimate ultra sexy mega total pass-scoring football. Want want want!

Not old enough to remember George Grahams Arsenil myself. My grandfather told me about it OK. You fellas are pretty convincing so I'm going to take your word for it that next season we will witness an exciting United. Maybe the best thing I can do is go into hibernation until the summer, that way I won't keep winding myself up.

At the end of the day it's about whether or not you can deliver the results. Earlier in the season Van Gaal said he's training the team not only to win, but to do it beautifully. And so far we've seen the winning, and a glimpse here and there of the beautiful so at that point we should only concentrate on results, next season we should see a more attacking and entertaining side.

Van Gaal: Rooney is Man Utd's best striker www.manchestereveningnews.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/van-gaal-rooney-man-utds-8649260Van Gaal said: "Rooney is maybe the best striker. "But I have explained already a lot of times that my selection is not made because someone is not a good player. "I have to compare and I have to look at what is the biggest contribution where a player can play, and other players also. The composition of the team is more important than the individual player."

What worries me most about VGs philosophy is for it to work he would need to get rid of more than half the squad. In a possession based idea how many actual players do we have that is comfortable on the ball, can keep possession, can play long/ short balls, is organised and doesn't give the ball away? The number 0 springs to mind. Di Maria may just slip in, Mata and Herrera would almost need the team built round them to be a success and I think we all agree that's not going to happen, so where does that leave us? I understand if we were more solid at the back with quality CMs, players like Di Maria, Mata and Herrera would be more free to express themselves at the right end of the pitch, without having to worry about giving the ball away too much, so my question is who should be let go, who should be brought in and in what position?
Players out
Rafael, Jones, Valencia, Fellaini, Nani, Hernandez, Evans, Falcao and a lot of the younger players who obviously aren't going to make it. Edit: forgot Young.
Out on loan
McNair, Blackett, Januzaj, Janko and Pereira.
Brought in
Coleman/Clyne, Varane/Hummels/Godin, Schneiderlin/Pogba/Martinez/Hamsik and someone in the Robben mode to run at players at pace. Isco would be my choice. Obviously we won't get any where near all of them but my thinking is we'd need at least 5/6 of them or similar type players to become what VG wants.

Squad needs rebalancing irrespective of anything but you're making too much of VG's philosophy - VG is a pragmatist above all else and he'll do what fits with what he's got.
He'll be looking at the spine of the team and possibly a RB depending on how McNair shapes. But I would say he will go for something like this : Falcao will go, so you need a fourth striker - no fucking idea who. We know we need Pogba and the obvious face to drop out will be Mata, yes, even over Fellaini, believe it or not. We need a CB who owns every bitch and on form alone I think Evans will be sacrificed.
But it's purely down to who we can get in, and that's the great unknown.

Van Gaal gets more and more baffling, I don't have a clue what he wants for next season bar a possession based game. But hey I'll play The senior players out on loan are gone, the obvious youngsters as well, Rafa, Evans, I wouldn't mind parting with Jones and Smalling but that would be too many and I'd not sign Falcao. The rest can stay for now. I think we need a RB, CB, CM, Attacker/Striker (with a fuck load of pace) or both. Clyne/Coleman, Godin/Hummels, Schneiderlin, Depay. I don't think 4 would be too much to ask

Van Gaal intends to buy midfielder www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2015/Feb/manchester-united-boss-louis-van-gaal-confirms-midfielder-will-be-transfer-target.aspx"I am looking for balance and I need balance in midfield. When I play with [Adnan] Januzaj and [Angel] Di Maria in the midfield positions, then you need a certain balance for that kind of creative player. "So, when you have these creative players, and also [Radamel] Falcao and [Robin] van Persie are creative players, then you have four creative players and you have to look for balance in your team." I don't wanna read too much into it, but it looks to me like he's not willing to part with Falcao. And once again we'll be looking for a midfielder. Don't really care who, as long as he does the job
