I've mentioned Howedes on the old board but very few people commented on it. If he's available I'd take him in a heartbeat, even over overly and widely liked Mats Hummels (including myself). I'm not sure how realistic it is though and would he move anyway.
As for selling someone, I'm happy to see the back of Evans, Smalling and even Jones if the current pile of shit around them continues. Sadly enough, all the indicators pointing in that direction.

I've seen that article earlier today, it's Jamie Jackson by the way so don't take it for granted. No quotes or anything whatsoever too, just him stating his opinion. I bet he reads Utd forums and making conclusions out of it.

14 mill for hoewdes. thats really good, should sign him now actually (so we don't have to compete with every other club in january, 14 million is ridiculously cheap for the quality we would get, didn't mention him really because i though schalke would want about 30mill+

Linked with Pique and Martins Indi in the papers this morning. Would anyone be happy to take either of those?

I think Martins Indi is massively overrated - his deficiencies were covered at the World Cup by the form of Vlaar and de Vrij.
Pique's never been as good as people make him out to be but he'd still be a big improvement - and what he's also got is the name, his status within the game makes him seem far better than he actually is, that alone can make some forwards have a quiet game against him, almost like they're intimidated.

Martins Indi is hit and miss, mainly miss. He looks like an absolute beast sometimes then looks like he belongs in league one at other times. We have 2 left footed centre backs in Rojo and Blackett anyway and considering one of them has only just signed and the other has only just been promoted from the u21's I don't imagine LVG is looking to replace any of them soon.
Not overly keen on Pique either, when Barcelona were at their peak it was still spoken about how their defence always looked pretty suspect and Pique was part of that. He may be a bit of an improvement on what we've got but in the long run I don't see him as being that top class defender who would improve the defence almost instantly. He's another who has a bunch of individual errors in him for me.

I think it's time to say goodbye to Evans well it probably will be by January, and if Arsenal want Smalling then let them have him. Howedes really would be class I like to dream realistically which means no Hummels, Varane or Godin so Howedes is the guy I'd love to see us sign in Jan, having him and Rojo would actually be one of the better CB partnerships in the prem, only really Chelsea and possibly City could boost a better one. Rojo, Blackett, Howedes, Jones and McNair or maybe a 6 month loan would be best for him though I wouldn't take the chance with our injury record.
Though I really the singing of Graziano Pelle by Southampton, he's been class so far and tbh I wasn't hugley familiar with him, I reckon there's a CB equivalent out there somebody like Loic Perrin of Saint-Étienne who has just been called up to the France squad, could be worth a 6 month loan. Though waiting until the summer for any sort of defensive savior may be the best bet

Varane's only just signed a new contract, I'd be surprised if he goes anywhere any time soon. Being linked with Laporte again this morning, I don't know much about him, but I do know that we're gluten for punishment if we want to go through all the nonsense it takes to buy off Bilbao again. At least Ed's well practiced now

He's now behind Bartra, who's a relatively inexperienced player. Mathieu who let's face it, is crap and Mascherano who is more of a CM than CB. Pique will always have a couple of mistakes each game so he's not any different than the players we already have. I personally hope Pique isn't in the frame because he will not solve our defensive problems and would in fact make us more of a liability.
