Game over. Impressive display, City had a lot of the ball at various times but didn't go anywhere with it. Our defence was solid, our midfield was assured and our attackers where vibrant and full of ideas, also showed some superb finishing (maybe they could show the first teamers a thing or 2).
Rothwell was man of the match for me, he made us tick in the middle, from deep and more advanced. Seemed to be all over the pitch. Wilson and Januzaj were the class acts as you'd expect, don't think Wilson lost possession once, took his goal well and set up Fletcher well. Speaking of Fletcher he looks like another striking talent, he's still only 19 and is already a pretty big lad, he could be an imposing figure physically if he grows even more but he's no target man, his touch is superb.
As usual with any United youth or U21 side there's a hell of a lot of talent there, I'd love to think at least 4 or 5 of those guys will makes it into the first team. I guess only time will tell.

Impressive, they were well up for it. Yeah we absolutely bossed that second half. Brilliant display all round, it was more of a joy to watch than most of the first team games lately thats for sure!

All 4 goals were really well taken.
I wonder how many of the U21's will go on the pre-season tour? I mean excluding guys who have been involved with the first team like Wilson, Januzaj, Blackett, Mcnair, Lingard etc. Off this season's performances I'd definitely be taking Rothwell, as well as Janko and Pearson who have both impressed out on loan. Maybe even give Fletcher a shot, should do him good being closely involved with the first team squad for a few weeks.
I doubt we'll be taking as many as that though, probably just the first 5 I mentioned to be honest. Along with summer signings there won't be enough room to take all the other guys. They'll be needed to stay behind to play in the United XI side who play friendlies against Stalybridge Celtic and the likes.
Then again there's a few International comps on over the summer which may keep a few people out of traveling with the main squad so I guess there could be room, just have to wait and see.
It's an exciting crop of talent anyway but I'm sure we say that with every new cycle of youth players.

Managed to get down and watch them last night, they gave City a good drubbing which is always nice to see. City at times had a lot of possession but we held our shape and discipline with them creating little clear cut chances, Thorpe controlled the back line brilliantly wonder if he'll ever get a shot.
Upfront we were clinical all four goals brilliantly worked, Wilson with another fine display and Januzaj getting back to his usual self, goal and assist for both. Rounded off with two great finishes from Fletcher and Willock.
Hopefully given Louis something to think about in these remaining two games and leading onto next season I'm wondering whether it's best to keep them or give them a loan.(Adnan and Wilson)
Generally well impressed by our boys, for all the hype around City's super academy...

Who out of the more unrecognisable players impressed you Dave?
On Januzaj and Wilson I'd be keeping Wilson without any doubt, he should be in the squad for our final 2 games instead of Falcao, with him starting at least 1 of the games. Then next season I also think he should be in our 18 man squad every week. He's a classy player, fantastic touch, really quick, great finisher and he's also really good at dropping slightly deeper to get involved in the action and help build up play. He's an all round striking talent.
Januzaj should go out on loan, I still think he's an incredible talent. This season has been tough for him, he's had limited chances so when he has been used he's been trying too hard to impress which always ends in failure. A full season of first team football should give him his confidence back. I'd like to see him go abroad as if he ends up at a midtable prem side or lower he'll end up defending more than he'll be able to show his attacking flair.

Yeah I'd like to see more of Wilson in these final games, he's got everything and certainly more appetite than Falcao. More than happy to have him in the squad next season. Probably right on Januzaj as well, which could Lingard fills his spot next season it'll be interesting to see what with happen with the likes of him as well.
You can just tell Wilson and Januzaj are up a level on some of the others, like I say Thorpe held it well at the back and the RB Love had a good game. The midfield seemed a little disjointed to me but they didn't see a great deal of the ball first half and put in a disciplined display.
Rothwell was everywhere, especially in the second half, driving at defenders, technically he looks good as well. Fletcher came on confident, chest out, took his goal as cool as you like. How old is he?

same here, Wilson's not quite ready for the hurly-burly of a division one spell yet, do him no harm hanging back and absorbing his current surroundings around the first team. Janazai definitely needs to be having the rigours of first team thrown at him and needs football week in week out, he's got some lazy habits that need ironing out and a spell somewhere else under the right tutelage would be a start.
I'd even be tempted to drop him down to division one and learn work ethic and having the shit kicked out of you.

Rothwell turned 20 in January, so he's getting to an age where a decision will be made on him. I definitely think the manager could do with taking him on the tour to get a closer look at him, in this latter part of the season he's been the best performer for the U21's in my opinion. As you say he's technically very good, which is surely a plus when Van Gaal is having a look at you.
All the defenders played well. As a unit they were solid and on the odd occasion they were breached the keeper was there. Thorpe's already 22, he's one I think will be gone this summer. The writing was on the wall for him once Mcnair got picked for the first team instead of him despite him barely graduating from the U18 side whereas Thorpe has been part of the U21's for a couple of seasons, he's been a little unlucky if you ask me. Love also had a good game I agree.
Lingard should be part of the squad next season. He was selected for his debut in the manager's first side of the season and if it wasn't for the injury he'd have played a few games in my opinion. Van Gaal has spoken about him since the injury as well, saying how impressed he's been with his determination to get back from his injury and how unlucky he was to get injured in the first place.

It's just how much I rate him. I suppose I thought the same about Januzaj last season but yeah. There'll be more chances for him as well due to more games. When the manager has no problem starting you up front vs Liverpool at Old Trafford it suggests he thinks a lot of you.

That's the thing when they start to get to 20 if they haven't had a chance then it's unlikely that they ever will, the likes of Januzaj, McNair, Wilson and Pereira came in at 18/19 so as you say Thorpe's time has probably passed but the way he's been talking seems he'll stick it out.
Rothwell needs his chance now then really as well, heard good things about Harrop as well. Hopefully they get to go on the tour and show what they can do in front of the big man.

Harrop's still only 19. He was impressive earlier on in the season but haven't seen a lot of him this latter part, assume he's injured. Another one who's very good technically.
You realise why we produce so many premier league players. There's a heap of talent there but obviously not all of them can make it here. A lot of them will end up at premier league or championship clubs though. I'd be surprised if Thorpe isn't picked up by one of the newly promoted sides, much like Michael Keane was by Burnley.
They reckon there were scouts at the game last night from most clubs in the top few leagues.. probably eyeing up potential loans for next season or even trying their luck at buying someone outright.
