Leicester deserved the win, funnily enough 2 of their better players were Barmby and Lawrence who I'm sure everyone knows were both at United last season. United looked good in bits and pieces but a bit dodgy at the back, Lou Macari said he can't remember watching an U21 game were the opposition made so many chances against us which I have to agree with.
The ref was a bit too easy on a few Leicester players though, Lawrence being the main culprit, trying too hard to show he could've been a good player for us I'm guessing.

I think the fact he's had a transfer and is still playing U21 football pretty much shows what his prospects were with us. Has Nick Powell even played for Leicester yet while we're on them?

Wikipedia says one game in the league cup, really don't get his loan move if he's not getting football. I'd rather see him in our reserves than on the Leicester bench (if he's even making the bench).

Just saw that he came off the bench for the last 10 minutes at the weekend. There's no point in him being there really.
He's still only 20 but his prospects of making it here are also looking very slim. He didn't exactly set the world alight at Wigan last season and now can't even get a kick at a pretty poor Premier League side.

Yeah he scored a good few goals for Wigan but the fans slagged him off every week. The common consensus from them was that he's fantastic on the ball, passing, shooting and dead balls but he's a lazy bastard and puts no effort in and has little more than zero workrate.

That was the impression I got from his brief appearances here as well. I think he's a little too arrogant as well, I like arrogance in footballers but his leads to complacency, I don't think he's as good as he thinks he is.

I still hold out hope... but I'm not objective at all. I want all of our youth to get a chance in the first team!

Na he's not, Ronaldo had arrogance and also worked incredibly hard, as hard as anyone in fact. Powell feels like he doesn't need to put the effort in and unless he changes that attitude he won't only fail to make it here but he'll fail to make it in the premier league as no side in the league can afford to have a passenger in their side.

United have signed a Canadian kid this morning called Josh Doughty. 17 year old who plays in midfield, is expected to go straight into U21 squad.
He's born in Canada to English parents and will receive US citizenship in April apparently due to living in Utah for years in the Real Salt Lake set up, so could play for any one of the three if he's any good.
Look forward to watching him.

Read about Josh coming over a couple weeks ago. He's been all the talk around RSL's youth development program. Last I heard they were trying to sign him to a pro contract as soon as possible, but apparently a move to United was too much to pass up. I hope everything goes well for him.

Ex-Arsenal player Willock working hard at United
Robin van Persie wasn't the only former Arsenal player to join Manchester United in 2012... young midfielder Matty Willock did the same and and made steady progress in the Reds' Academy ranks.
The 18-year-old midfielder is now pushing for inclusion in Warren Joyce's Under-21 team after graduating from the Academy. He came off the bench in the Manchester Senior Cup final against City at the start of the season before appearing in the friendly against Loughborough Students recently, hitting the bar in the 2-0 win.
In this exclusive interview, first published in the club's official magazine Inside United, Willock discusses leaving Arsenal - for whom his two brothers still play - and his development in Manchester...
How did the move to United come about?
I was a schoolboy at Arsenal but was released at 15 so I had trials at a few clubs, including Reading and Sunderland. I ended up signing for United. It was a bit disappointing when I left Arsenal but it worked out well.
Is it true your brothers are also promising footballers?
Yes, I’ve got two younger brothers playing at Arsenal – one [Chris] is in their youth team and the other [Joe ] is in the Under-16s there.
You appeared to sprout up physically one summer. Did that allow you to move into central midfield from out wide?
I grew a lot in my first year [at United]. I did play on the wing a little bit at first. It was probably felt I wasn’t strong enough to go into the middle straight away but, in my second year, I became a bit stronger so I was pushed into central midfield. There is a lot of running power required to play central midfield and I don’t know if I was ready for that in the first year.
You had to be patient as a first-year scholar, and is it now the same for you with the Under-21s?
Yes, it can be frustrating at times but you just have to keep going and work hard to try to push yourself into the team. I’ve played for the Under-16s, Under-17s, Under-18s and in behind-closed-door games too. It’s all been good experience. It’s always good to play against older players as you learn a lot when you test yourself against Premier League players. You can see what level you are at and what you need to improve on. It enables you to see you’re getting close to the level required if you can compete with Premier League players.
So are you preparing for another chance in the Under-21s?
Yes, you have to hope for a chance and, when you get it, take it. I think I’m making progress and can hopefully break into the team and push on from there. The training is a lot harder this season with more running and gym work. It means, when we play against other teams, we always know we are going to have the edge on fitness over them because we work so hard in training. As much as you want to be excited for the lads when we win, and you are obviously happy for them, it’s not quite the same when you don’t get off the bench. However, you have to be ready all the time and make sure you warm up because it is all about being patient. We’re all friends off the pitch and go to the Trafford Centre and into town together for food. We’re all quite close.
How much of a dream is it to be representing United?
It is great as, when I was young, I always wanted to grow up and play for a big club. I didn’t think I was necessarily ever going to play for United so I am just happy to be here. If I keep working hard, hopefully I can push myself forward.

Jonny Evans expected to play tonight to get a bit of fitness back. More interestingly, Ander Herrera is also in the squad for it, with the website saying he's still not at full fitness after the rib fracture.
I hope that's all it is and not that van Gaal doesn't rate him, but I don't understand why he'd be on the bench if he wasn't fully fit.

Yeah, Herrera is an interesting case... I hope he's just trying to regain fitness after his rib fracture.

James joins Rotherham on loan
Manchester United have agreed a deal with Rotherham United to allow defender Reece James to head to the New York Stadium on loan until 10 January.
The versatile left-back made a huge impression on United's pre-season tour, scoring twice in the win against LA Galaxy, and was on the bench for Louis van Gaal's opening three Barclays Premier League games.
After making his senior debut in the Capital One Cup reverse at MK Dons, James sustained an injury but has been back in Under-21 action and caught the eye of Millers manager Steve Evans.
The move to the Championship should benefit the 21-year-old, who has previously been farmed out to Carlisle United.
