Newcastle Jets 0-1 Sydney FC
Sydney FC have to be the grubbiest team in the league. diving, hack tackles (though that kantarovski tackle was a red from the jets) and taking out keepers and kicking their teeth in. I stand by my position in saying that Seb Ryall deserves to be kevin muscat tackled (manny muscat or ruben zadkovic to get it done this season please)
Both teams were far to complacent going forward, neither really tried to win the game, Jets arguably were robbed, first goal was a goal (linesman is blind, simple as that) and sydney got a lot of calls their way (except that tackle from kantarovski, again, that is a red any day of the week, 10/10 times) so yeah, very poor officiating from everyone on the pitch. But for the jets, you need to try and go out and win and play proactively at home, not like sydney were that good, they were pretty bad actually, but same goes for sydney, given the chances, they should have won this about 2-1 or 3-1, bad finishing from both.
Crowd: 12,173 (very good crowd, looked smaller on tv but thats a good crowd for the jets after last years fiasco, hopefully with them out of trouble, they can go on and get that 11k average again)

the tard derby was a pretty good one this time around
Melbourne Victory 3-2 Melbourne City
Berisha with the late winner, City pretty unlucky to not get a draw at least, if only they had a halfway competent manager, they might do something this season.
JVS also said he wouldn't make any excuses before the game, after the game, he makes excuses, management 101 right there
Crowd: 40,217 (not a full house at the ethiad, meaning pretty disappointing)

Brisbane Roar 2-1 Central Coast Mariners
Roar 2 from 2, we played pretty well, more akin to how we used to play under postecoglu and mulvey (style wise, maybe not quality yet). McClaren really works hard and i appreciate what he does up front, he is relentless, even though he didn't get the goals (he was frustrated himself at half time, said he should have gotten 2 which is good to see, goal hungry forwards is always good).
Mariners did play well but we played better, though they should have had a pen, hingert did take caceres down with no ball, not a hard challenge but a definate pen, Ben Williams also made some weird calls in terms of not allowing advantage etc. I like the way they are now playing, proactive football, weren't just willing to sit back and counter, they took it to us and made this game a really good game to watch, end to end stuff and good passing from all, Mitch Austin looks really good, gave Hingert problems (hingert did do a decent job handling him though). Gave us a scare with that goal (bad defending from us for the goal, 4 on 1 then leaving the other two in the box open is not good defending), but ultimately we got the win and the 3 points, getting the wins against a decent team, it is at least promising.
Crowd: 14 471 (that is actually fantastic for us given the drama, no doubt bolsted by the fact that we won so convincingly against the wanderers last week, crowd were really into it, they where loud, that 15k sounded louder than 15k, really good to see the fans getting into it despite the problems off the pitch)

Perth Glory 1-2 Wellington Phoenix
Another installment of the distance derby in the a-league (fox sports where taking that way too seriously though)
2 early goals from either side, with it basically remaining a stalemate throughout the game, a hell of a lot of fouls in the game (32 in total) and 8 yellow cards with garcia getting his marching orders in the 84th for a second yellow.
Lord Golec makes a mistake to conceed the second, leaving the glory winless after games against the jets and phoenix, Lowe is getting sacked in the morning (if the glory were a normal team not run by an idiot in sage, that old boys club and all that)
result was fair, Phoenix dominated, got their shots off but where nowhere near clinical enough. As for Perth, they are in trouble, Fernandez is terrible, also Garcia is wasted on the glory, he really is, he could be the best player in the competition if he played for a proper team, but at the glory he will never be provided the chance he deserves. Perth using that long ball and playing like they're in the conference, at least newcastle looked structure and can pass when they play defensively, Perth just look shit and hoof it up. I am having a hard time determining who is worse, Van Schip't or Lowe
Crowd: 8,461 (bang on average, team is doing shit and the phoenix are the worst drawing away team in the competition by a mile, no away support and not many fans go to see them, and it was raining in perth which makes this decent enough, the glory haven't exactly given the people of perth reason to support them)

Victory with their best membership ever, we are now up 2k from last week and ahead of the glory and mariners, mariners also up a fair bit and honestly, their membership numbers aren't too bad right now, the nix on the other hand, 3.6k, yeah this could be their 2nd last season, i could seriously see them being booted for a team in canberra

two pieces of news here:
First things first:
talks of the Phoenix being moved from Wellington and a new franchise starting up in the south of sydney (around the shire, cronulla mainly) to take its place (with Cahill as the inaugural marquee of that club). The Phoenix have come out and rubbished this but there may be more to this i think, Sky Sports have not come to the party in terms of tv rights (they are paying 150k per year for the a-league, which is just insane), NZF aren't doing a whole lot and the AFC are just not happy with the Phoenix being in due to the fact that NZF is apart of Oceania and FFA is Asia. Add to that, that the Phoenix are the lowest in memberships and are the lowest drawing team in terms of crowds in the whole league (not bottom in terms of ratings though, they beat newcastle and central coast for tv ratings somehow) and i could see why, their license ends at the end of the year. Whilst i would like them to stay, they need to do more, a big step is NZF finally moving to Asia, if they do that, hell, let Auckland City come to the a-league (based out of Eden Park or Mt Smart Stadium in the southside) and we can have an Auckland-Wellington rivalry. If not and then the ffa move the nix out, then they have no professional sides in the country and they are stuffed.
2nd issue is TV rights. Foxtel and old mate Murdoch (he really isn't old mate, he's a prick whose trying for the monopoly down here) has bought a larger share in channel 10, and with the way the sbs and ffa have fallen out, this could lead to us signing with channel 10 as our free to air broadcaster, which would be a significant deal, sadly though, this season has been the worst in terms of buildup since about 2010-11, so any chance of a 100 mill + per year deal may be off, i think 70-80 mill per year is realistic if the year goes well, if it doesn't though, could be looking closer to only 60 mill per (which would be still a 20 mill a year increase, but not that good considering that is 40 mill lower than we expected a year ago). Hopefully the year goes well and the ffa can get a good tv deal for the a-league and ffa cup as well as socceroo games (80 mill for those three would be great).
anyway the sydney derby has sold out, should have a crowd of 42k+ for that one, that will be a great game, Newcastle are hosting the victory tonight, Roar are playing the Phoenix, central coast go to City and Adelaide are playing perth

Newcastle Jets 1-0 Melbourne Victory
David Carney goal in the 75th minute, you couldn't make this stuff up, the wooden spooners from last season, thats right, the bottom club, beat the champions. Lets make no mistake here, Melbourne did control the game, but didn't downright dominate either (Newcastle got some attacks in), it was quiet niggly also.
Anyway not a good game for them, Miller on the other hand has the Jets playing a very good defensive style of football, all their players are disciplined and know their role, Jets could have even gotten a few more goals if they were more clinical but its a good win for them, not exactly undeserved due to how bad the victory were by their standards. Mind you jets also, weren't that great either, they played better against Sydney, so much better, actually even against the Phoenix they played better.
Muscat going to break some legs in training this week for sure for this, georgevski deserved to be off before the half so that makes this that much worse, they could have played this game with 10 men (should have been actually), maybe that would have fired them up actually.
Crowd: 10 087 (pretty solid, could have been a bit more due to the victory but they're getting their again, they are the best regionally supported team in the competition and are outdrawing adelaide and perth, per capita they have to have the best support, if they can get back up to 12k per game that would be great though, but very nice progress)

so this happened on the eve of derby night
why would you even steal a tifo  anyway pretty sad that they did (not going to lie, i did laugh at the stupidity of it all)
People for obvious reasons saying it was the RBB and western sydney who did it, if they rock up with it, the scenes. oh boy

Wellington Phoenix 3-2 Brisbane Roar
fuck sake, we dominated the possession, just wellington killed us on the counter and we defended really badly. Polenz the scrub gets himself carded within 7 minutes, i'm sorry get rid of him and let hingert start, waste of a foreign spot, anyway good signs from us again, but we should have won this given the balance of play, our fault for not finishing this one off, very sloppy passing from us, Aloisi will not be happy by that, fitness was also an issue because we were done by the 80th. Nix responded well given the speculation about the future of the club, good counter attacking football also. Also Corey Brown......... this guy makes Evra look like a god defending, i swear to god a game does not go by where he doesn't lose his man badly, and it usually costs us, i rather have a 34 year old steffanuto, and he's already one of the worst left backs left, i really hope we fix this shit and sell polenz and use that money to bring in a real left back that can actually defend, even if it is a visa player
Crowd: 6,103 (ok, on the pitch its alright, off it though, yeah this is a disgrace, only 6k come out, do you want to lose your club or something)

Sydney FC 1-0 Western Sydney Wanderers
Sydney score late via Marinkovic's late goal. Wanderers outplayed sydney but couldn't shoot well at all. Though the one they did get on target was a goal disallowed (going to say that was a bad call)
The scenes were interesting, RBB chucking beer at a cop, possibly stealing a tifo and letting off 8 flares, i am waiting for channel 7 to run a scare campaign against this (sokkah ethics, they're ruining 'Straya)
Crowd: 40,539 (it was a sell out, and SFS holds 45.5k, i am really confused here, even with some not coming surely they get 43k into the stadium, strange one this is)

Melbourne City 3-1 Central Coast Mariners
Mooy has to be the most important player out of any player for any team, because without him i am almost certain that city wouldn't have picked up a single point this year. They're terrible apart from him, he is amazing though, and Fourlini, when he got service, delivered with 2 goals. But it took forever to get service, Central Coast back 4 is bad, but we knew that already, they're the type of team that will have to outscore opponents to win games, they won't be winning by defending.
Was hoping for a loss to city, not JVS may actually keep his job for a while, guy is a useless manager for them, the sooner they get a competent manager, the sooner they win more games
Crowd: 8,408 (ok, that is bad, this is why the sydney derby is bigger, even if the victory are the biggest club in the country, their supposed rivals are bad, its like comparing arsenal to bolton, they need to find an identity other than being man city's feeder team)

Perth Glory 3-1 Adelaide United
OH MY GOD ADELAIDE JUST WIN A GAME. seriously what the hell is wrong with them this season, whoever said gombwow isn't that good is clearly wrong, what the hell is this shit, they can't shoot for shit, they might be the worst shooting side in the competitions history, their strikers couldn't shoot it through a barn door, 1 on 13 on shot, Fernando Torres has a better strike rate then that. They desperately need a striker. I mean the only goal they got was an own goal (because perth glory).
Adelaide managed to do what kenny lowe couldn't do, and thats get Fernandez and Castro going. and to top it all off, the idiots (whose nickname is the reds) come out wearing a blue kit, what the hell is wrong with adelaide, they were the most stable, now they're looking like the basket case
Perth get a good win though to follow up from their mid week ffa cup win against city.
Crowd: 7,728 (wow, that is freaking sad, but with perth i don't really blame them since sage is just a cancerous owner who needs to be removed, then maybe we might see perth drawing 12k+ like they should)

RIP Phoenix, nice knowing you
i presume this leads the way to the shire next season and may lead to canberra and maybe wollongong/ipswich soonish also
but basically, not 100% happy, sure the crowds were shit and NZF were lazy as fuck in this whole process, announcing this now, no one is going to even go to games, their crowds will be like 1.5-2k at best for a lot of the games if they're folding
mind you they could still technically get the 5 year license but they're done, lets face it

no one is going to pour a ton of money if they've only got 4 years
also literally no one in Australia wants a team in Cronulla, its become pretty obvious now that they would be pretty much hated by all sets of fans and not exactly get good support either. (no one from Wollongong is going to support a sydney based team if they aren't following Sydney FC yet). Plus the shire actually has like 100k less people than the whole of Wollongong, just put a team down in the Gong and market it to the Illawarra region, done.
I think the a-league might be the only league in the AFC to be so damn stupid when it comes to this

Frank Lowy with the fire directed at Arnold
Anyway seems rather obvious, this was a lot better than when Gallop came out and said that the nix where squatting. They have 4 more years to prove themselves and if they don't want that, then South Sydney or Wollongong, Victoria (South Melbourne or Geelong i presume), Canberra (this seems like the most obvious choice) or Queensland (Ipswich or Townsville i presume)
Hopefully its Wollongong or Canberra. Both of those are obvious for the next expansion, only reason Canberra missed out last time is because the Wanderers bid was that damn good, they should get it this time, national capital and the 8th largest city in the country plus the place has a footballing history, high disposable income and the other teams are a bit of a joke and winter sports (Raiders in the NRL are so bad)
