Louis van Gaal says Manchester United "must beat" Manchester City in Sunday's derby showdown to prevent their season being over. A 1-1 draw at home to Liverpool was not enough to prevent a Europa League last-16 exit on an aggregate score of 3-1 to leave the Red Devils fighting against the odds to qualify for the Champions League via their domestic form. They trail City by four points in the Premier League and they meet their local rivals at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday, live on Sky Sports 1 HD from 3.30pm. Pick ourselves up and go for a win .................. sorry but today I don't see it happening maybe I'm just too down in the mouth Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi injured it seems - plus Pellegrini's lot seems to have switched off completely in the league with a string of bad results...... although I think they will raise the tempo against us

For what it's worth
Manchester City have to win this game! It's all becoming very tight in the race for the top four and Manuel Pellegrini's men are really struggling at the moment. The injuries to Vincent Kompany and Nicolas Otamendi are a big blow, however, I see home advantage being key in this game. Manchester United also have injury problems and a tough game against Liverpool won't help their chances. I see City just edging this one 2-1.
PAUL PREDICTS: 2-1

Impossible to predict really. Depends if we turn up and do it for the full 90+.
You'd say score draw realistically.

Citeh aren't in great form themselves, they've lost 4 at home this season which is the most from the top six. They'll be fresh after a pretty meaningless game in midweek but with Otamendi/Demichelis and Mangala you've always got a chance.
Must win this one, it'd be sweet if us and West Ham can finish in the top four but if results go our way on Sat then a point would keep us in touch.
De Gea, Valencia, Smalling, Blind, Rojo, Schneiderlin, Basti, Martial, Herrera, Memphis, Rashford.
I'm hoping LVG made his selection last night with this one in mind, if it's Carrick and Fellaini again then...

I think any United fan not predicting a City win is being a little biased. They're not in great form but they have more than enough ability to turn it on, on Sunday and beat us. They rarely don't show up against us when we're on good form, nevermind in poor form. We may get a draw but I'm afraid I only see a City win right now.
Hope they prove me wrong!

Herrera doubtful
Reported on the Thursday morning which explains why he didn't figure in the squad last night Herrera had a tight groin this morning and was not selected by the manager. "He is injured," added van Gaal on BT Sport. "He was in the squad but we did not want to risk him too much."
Sickbay says return date 20th March ............ he might not be available

I am heart sore to say that my prediction is City 3 United 1. I just want this season to be over and LVG gone. The financial impact to us not going anywhere in any of the main events must be HUGE and no chance of UCL next year adds more stress.

I'm not convinced Valencia is ready for a full 90, but Varela was poor yesterday and most of the players really deserve a rest, but considering the importance of this match I think they should push through it.
Don't have any special preferences, whoever is the fittest at the moment will do.

Hi Jie
Don't have any special preferences, whoever is the fittest at the moment will do.
The fittest can not do it. !!!!
LVG will say on his exit statement " I did what I could with the available players ". Bullshit your strategies do not work in the BPL oh! and by the way you spent .......... Produced no revenue building results, made us subservient to City and Liverpool.

Nope, sorry, not having it. You don't have 8/9 first team injuries at Xmas and then 12/14 first team injuries again at April/March and expect to challenge for the league. It's not happening.
21 players left the club 7 came in, net spend around 120 million. He was asked to rebuild the club. He is not directly responsible for getting players through the door. He was asked to change the playing style to a possession based passing game (which is what he knows) and it hasn't paid off.
Has he helped himself? NO. Is he entirely to blame? NO. Shit happens, things don't always work out in life.
Liverpool are on the bounce and riding the crest of a wave with Klopp, we'll see how far he gets, it's early doors yet. City have unlimited Arab oil money and still have empty seats, West Ham might well beat them to fourth spot - Leicester City are top of the table and will probably win the league.
The only people you should really be pointing the finger at are the Glazers and Ed Woodward. You can pull VG up for his man management and playing style but that's about it.

Had it with him
win or get sacked. simple as that really
and if they don't sack him then Ed Woodwards job needs to come into question and yet again the yanks need to be looked at also

Well since Everton can't do anything and Chelsea only half a job it's a must win tomorrow really.

My only hope is that we won't be humiliated. I do not think we have a chance of winning, Maybe a draw.

As much as I've been impressed by Varela and think he's the future of that right back position I'd be starting Valencia in this game, could do with his pace and power. Noticed Fosu Mensah is in the squad so I'd be tempted to start him instead of Blind. Maybe switch Rojo to partner Smalling and put Mensah at left back, again we could do with his pace and power. The cm has to be changed and it's a straight swap with the 2 Sch's coming in for Carrick and Fellaini. I've been saying it for a few weeks now but I feel Rashford would benefit from a rest. I'd start Memphis, preferably up front but I realise that's unlikely so it's him left with Martial up front. Lingard keeps his place on the right but Januzaj is in the squad and I wouldn't be against seeing him on the right at some point, even from the start as I don't think Lingard has been especially great of late but saying that the whole team hasn't. De Gea Valencia Smalling Rojo Fosu Mensah Schneiderlin Schweinsteiger Mata Lingard Martial Memphis Even though I said above I didn't fancy us, I do think City are there to be beaten, especially with their injury problems in defence. It's just whether I think we have it in us at the moment to up our game sufficiently to expose their weaknesses. Start quickly like we did against Liverpool and be a little more clinical and we'll give ourselves a chance. Concede the first goal and I think we could get a thumping.
