I'd keep VG till the end of the season and make sure they get Pep, Ancelotti is going to Bayern by all accounts. Pep is the next logical step in every way from VG, it would jive with what the Glazers want and would take what VG is trying to do to the next level.

You more or less covered everything Matt. Especially the bit about 50% chance of huge success and 50% chance of complete failure. With Mou there is no common ground. If he did come then for sure Mata will be looking for another club. On his current form not a lot of people would care but I do believe in the right set up he could become a very important player for us. He's had a few seasons where he was the leagues top assist and he scored quite a few goals himself. He hasn't suddenly become a bad player for no reason. Mourinho doesn't really believe in youth so where would that leave players like Memphis, Darmian, Valero and Martial? It would mean another clear out and another shit load spent. Would it be worth it?

Absolute disgrace, to Norwich, honestly we don't deserve top 4, we are as bad now as we where under Moyes (last 3 games), sack van Baal now since it looks like he will lose the dressing room and have gigs as interim u til the end of the season or hire ancelotti so we can fix this squad in January

I'd keep VG till the end of the season and make sure they get Pep I agree with Jamie. If we lose against Stoke then VGs P45 will be on top of the table. We lose against Chelsea, then it will be in his pocket. No point hanging on any longer. If that means Giggs as interim then so be it. Or even better, Ancelloti. What is clearer than water is we need Pep. If he goes to Shity or Chelski then we could be playing catch up for the next 5 years. Pay whatever it takes to get him in.

I think we can all agree that Pep is the logical and most preferred next step but I now think there's a real chance LVG gets sacked before the season is out, possibly very early in the New Year. Pep isn't available until the summer and Ancelotti by all accounts is off to Bayern. So that leaves us with relying on Giggs to make sure we finish top 4. I don't think they'd be willing to take that risk. Which will leave Jose as the only real option.
Ideally LVG gets us out of this slump and we have a good 2nd part of the season, consolidate a top 4 place and get Pep to join in the summer but I'm not at all convinced the combination of these players and the manager have it in them to get it together.
Like I said all will become clearer after the next 2 games. Win them both or win 1 and draw 1 and we'll be back on track and he may survive the season. Pick up less than 3 points and we could find ourselves comfortably out of the top 4 and I feel a change will be imminent.
On Mourinho. I think he's very consistent. He always brings a certain level of success but also in general brings a certain level of chaos. He's been at rather chaotic clubs though. Madrid is a poisoned chalice of a job and there's always problems at Chelsea no matter who's the manager. In terms of him not having faith in youth I think he'll play young players if they're talented enough. Pep hasn't exactly got a long list of nurtured youth players he can lay claim to.
I do agree he's not a guaranteed success and I also agree that Pep is the main choice in an ideal world but say Pep goes to City and Ancelotti goes to Bayern there's really no one left in terms of an elite manager.

There's no doubting the pedigree of both VG and Mourinho because of the trophies they've won between them but personally I don't think either of them are suited to manage United. Both are egotistical control freaks. Both put more emphasis on results rather than playing football. Both have had problems with team players. Both have had problems with club hierarchy. Both have had problems with media. They are clones of each other. VG has never looked like he's had the full support of the players. Mourinho in his last 2 clubs has been ousted by his own players which speaks volumes of their character. Talk about jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire. The club can't afford to make another mistake and I really do think taking on mourinho would be too big a risk. Now isn't the time to bring the circus to town. Which we all know will happen if he takes over. I do like Mourinho as a character because he is entertaining but I just wouldn't want to see him being entertaining at our expense. If it came to it I'd much rather see Giggs take over than Mou because I think we'd have a much better chance at stability something I feel is much more important than a quick fix. Precisely my thoughts apart from the liking him part, I can't stand him. Not worth it.

We have fast, creative players in the squad than just don't or are not allowed to play fast and creative. I don't get why we are not playing to the players' strengths instead of imposing a regime on them that clearly does not suit them.

I don't get why we are not playing to the players' strenghts instead of imposing a regime on them that clearly does not suit them. Exactly. As I said, LVG's problem is not that he wants to implement his philosophy, but rather the fact that he won't make any compromise and find the right balance bewteen his philosophy, the players' strength and the way football is played in this league. If LVG doesn't get a look in the mirror and accept to change a few things, he will be out as soon as next week. He is blinded by his own arrogance and is too stubborn to realise he only needs to tweak a few things to get the machine going again. But he just won't make it, because he is Mr Van Gaal.

He did it at AZ and won the title. He knows what to do..
'Sure enough, AZ were hopeless in their first two Eredivisie games of the season. But after losing away to a spirited NAC, 2-1, and ADO, 3-0, something changed. In spite of claiming that the ADO game had been "AZ's best in six months", Van Gaal abandoned his stubbornness at long last and placed pragmatism before idealism, turning his side into a deadly counter-attacking team rather than a classical Dutch pressing-and-possession side.
The impact was immediate. At home to PSV, AZ managed to hold shape against the in-form defending champions long enough for Maarten Martens to score the only goal for the Alkmaarders with a nifty chip in the 82nd minute. Growing more comfortable with their system as the season progressed, their combination-football appeared ever more fluid and natural. Inevitably AZ passed their way to the most convincing championship in recent memory.'

Lets hope he can get it together then because the most ideal situation is him staying here until the end of the season.

I think we should TRY to convince Sir Alex to work with the team for the second half of the season and TRY to get Pep next summer. Jose is a brilliant manager but not for Man U. Giggs will not take the responsibility of guiding us to a top 4 position and LVG does not have the trust of the players. The team is going downhill and we must stop the "snow ball effect" LVG is taking.

Players who cannot follow the plan + Players who think the plan is wrong + opposition teams who have sussed out the frailties of the plan + a Manager who doesn't want to acknowledge the plan is not working =
DISASTER
Prepare for the worse.
