Expecting this game to be a real slog. They're certainly going to sit everyone behind the ball and keep it tight, if they can try and nick a win then they'll do it but their main aim will be to take a point. No excuses though, we have to break them down and take all 3 points regardless of how defensive they play.
In terms of the team I'm not really fussed as long as Lingard starts and Martial plays at 9 again. The rest of the positions tend to pick themselves. I'd be tempted to play Herrera in central midfield though. We're going to have a huge percentage of the ball and it will be unnecessary to have two sitting in there, having that extra creative player on the pitch could be the difference to break down a stubborn defence.

Yup, Lingard is a must for me as well. I'd give Memphis another 15 or so minutes, because he was shit and I refuse to believe that  Other than that, you know the drill - pass pass pass, couple of shots, bring Fellaini on, win 1-0.

Great test for us in breaking the opposition down...again, gotta be done though.
Can't say I'm looking forward to it though.

Key is if we can hit them early. It will open the match up slightly and we may be able to give them a beating. Just don't want it dragging on because you could see them completely holding out if it does.

They've been defending well this season and will no doubt sit back against us so we need to play Martial central to unlock them with his pace and creativity.

Exactly my thinkinh. We need to start scoring early. It will make it easier to pick them as they will need to open up more.

Schneiderlin has been ill but is training ahead of the match and could be in contention to return to the side after missing the midweek Champions League victory over CSKA Moscow. Antonio Valencia remains sidelined and, of course, Luke Shaw is a long-term absentee, even if he is making good progress in his recovery from a broken leg. Another full-back, Matteo Darmian, is suspended after accumulating five yellow cards this season so Ashley Young could continue on the right-hand side of defence. "There are no injuries, only illnesses," van Gaal told MUTV. "Morgan Schneiderlin was ill. He shall train today for the first time so we have to wait and see. I cannot say there are a lot of changes for this game. Matteo Darmian is suspended so he cannot play and Valencia is injured." The Reds ended a recent goal drought on Tuesday thanks to Wayne Rooney's winner and received a boost ahead of the Baggies clash. With another international break following the Old Trafford fixture, United are determined to register three points in order to keep up with the Barclays Premier League pacesetters. One man who will be high on morale after his midweek performance is Jesse Lingard, who is hoping to make his first Premier League start of the season after being involved in the last six matches. "He’s doing well," said van Gaal. "That’s why I want to keep him and why I have said his chances shall come. He has a lot of pace and I like pace on the wings. Now he has first assist also [against CSKA]. I think he shall have a boost from this game because he played very well, in my opinion, and I hope he shall continue." www.manutd.com/en/News-And-Features/Football-News/2015/Nov/manchester-united-team-news-v-west-brom.aspx

With Schneiderlin uncertain, and considering WBA will be parking the bus, I'd go for a slight twist and play the following formation: De Gea Young - Smalling - Blind - Rojo Carrick Lingard - Herrera - Fellaini - Rooney Martial - Last year's magic trio of Carrick, Herrera and Fellaini. Fellaini to add a anchor, a focus point for our attacks, someone at the end of Young and Rojo's crosses as well as a presence in bewteen lines that is hard to deal with. He will also run box-to-box and offer more cover and aggressivity when we lose possession. Pretty much his role for the niational team. - Lingard has earned his spot in my opinion. I want to see more of him. - I know it won't happen, but I woudl like to see Rooney in another position as I think he has been very poor at n°9 & 10. WHy not try to see how he can operate in a "free role" but from a wider position? Martial should be our first choice n°9. - Hard to leave Mata out, but I want to see more of Lingard, as I like his positivity, the movements he brings and how he runs at defenders. I think we should break LVG's conventional 4-2-3-1 to surprise WBA. When we have two sitting CM, it's too easy for the opposition to defend against us, so let's add the unconventional but so effective Fellaini in there to annoy them and force them to break their lines.

The game went as expected, West Brom with everyone behind the ball and well organised, first half we dominated and I thought our play was more inventive than usual just couldn't find the finish. Second half picked up where left off but we got the goal we deserved with a great finish from Jesse, who was lively once again and he's earnt that goal. West Brom had one good chance with Berahino, who should have scored but other than that we were comfortable at the back. Finished them off with a cool penalty from Mata. We weren't scintillating but we came through a tough team that we've struggled with in the past, Basti I thought had his best game today, was all over the pitch today and much more positive going forward. Onwards we go

I think the biggest difference between the last couple of seasons and this is we're starting to get that fear factor back, especially at OT. If not fear factor then definately more respect. Last season teams knew if they had a go at us they might get something out of the game. That's changing. Today was another example of how things are changing. WBA gave us 2/3s of the pitch before they started putting their tackles in. Our defence was largely untroubled and De Gea could of read a book during the game. Given those conditions of course we had control of the game. A better performance but only 2 shots on target in open play still leaves a lot to be desired and we could count ourselves lucky Berahino missed a sitter.
