Need to start punishing teams when we're on top. The fact we're giving teams with their parked double deckers golden opportunities to nick something from the game is slightly worrying.

Thought it was a thoroughly professional performance and went exactly as expected. We got the ball into some great areas before the breakthrough came but the finish or final ball was lacking. They made it very difficult for us though, absolutely no space but in the end we made the breakthrough with a beautiful finish from Jesse. We completely controlled the game and weren't threatened besides their chance with Berahino.
As Hammy has said, the pundits may not think it but the fear factor is definitely back at Old Trafford at least. Early last season and in the Moyes season people thought we were vulnerable and came to Old Trafford looking to attack and put goals past us. Now they've reverted to sitting back and making life as difficult as possible. This in itself shows the progression the side has made, we're once again a tough side to play against, different to Fergie but tough nevertheless.
I think the defence stat is something to be extremely proud of as well. No team in Europe is defending better than we are at this moment in time.
Negatives were few and far between as far as I'm concerned today, everyone did their job. Rooney's actual football left a lot to be desired but he's getting that workrate back which means that even when he's not performing well he still helps the team. Still think he needs to be benched but he's not hurting us as much as he was.
All in all I think it was a good day and a good performance especially with a local lad deservedly scoring his first goal for the club in such superb fashion. If you're disappointed and expected us to slaughter them 5-0, then I'm afraid you were onto a loser from the start.

An in form Rooney and Memphis and we're full on title contenders I agree, but I am not sure it is wise to wait for them to shine. Memphis imo will need more time to develop his potential, while Rooney will stagnate at that "decent" level up until he leaves us, and let's be honest, he lucky to be LVG's captain, and lucky that we're thin upfront. I agree with LVG that we miss a truly creative and classy player upfront. But then I wonder why he didn't get his man this summer: is he waiting for a precise someone? If not he is the one who failed this summer, especially with Pedro available for instance. But regardless of that forward reinforcement, I think LVG is also delusional if he thinks a new player will change so much. The problem at the moment is that we're a bit too cautious, and there is in general too little movement in our attacks because the players who could add those runs to break defences are staying put for safety measures (the full backs, the sitting CM's). It's like we're more concerned about keeping the ball & not concede: and by the way if we get the chance we score. We're definitely lacking sharpness upfront, I agree with LVG on that point, but LGV is wrong to blame it all on the lack of "creative" or pacy forwards. He too has some responsibility in this.

I think Rooney will still come good this side of xmas - think he'll get his usual 20 goals but we will still be a bit light if only Martial is contributing. But we knew we were light anyway. Memphis looks a world away from getting his head straight, so that definitely leaves us light.
VG is goat stubborn but is probably the only person capable of turning that attack around without going into the market so we'll just have to leave it with him.
He wasn't kidding when he said he wanted Muller and they went in for him, that's who he wants - the end. Pedro was an after thought and turns out he was right to duck out imo. Muller takes up the most obscure positions of any footballer playing today and makes it all pay off for him. Not that we'll get him this side of him being 30.

Just finished watching the game. Have to say, that went better than I expected - still a lot of sideways passing and suffocating them, but it makes a lot of a difference when you have these long periods of possession and all of a sudden you get a 5-minute full on attack with some fantastic runs by Lingard, Martial and Mata. I thought Schweinsteiger was superb in the first half with his movement on and off the ball, faded in the second though. Rooney looked a lot more comfortable on the ball, made some decent runs as well - not gonna complain. Not even worth mentioning Lingard - he's turning out to be a crucial player in this side, especially with his pace and runs. Don't know anything about the kid Borthwick-Jackson, he looked lost for the couple times he touched the ball, but that's not really enough time to judge. Always fun to have new faces though.

No doubt he will, there's not much point in spending 25 million on a player and not playing him anymore. If all the reports are accurate then Depay just needs to get his head back in the game and start doing what we know he can do and what he was bought for. Then and only then will we see his true potential to be a world-beater.

Not worried about him at all to be honest, he's only been playing for United for what? 3 months? I can't even adapt to a new type of breakfast in 3 months, let alone change country, team, teammates, style and coach

I have a little bit more of an issue with him than I did originally. I thought even if he wasn't quite upto scratch football wise we'd see him working and trying hard but whenever he comes on the pitch he looks like he's putting in no effort whatsoever.
He's gone from being an indispensable, big fish in a little pond to an average sized fish in a huge ocean. Time he realised this and also realised he has to put the work in to succeed here. He wants to be as big as Ronaldo? Well Ronaldo is just about one of the most professional and hard working footballers you'll ever see. First to training and the last to leave, he doesn't just walk out on to the pitch and expect to play well, he knows he's going to play well because he's put the work in.
The talent is definitely there with Memphis, he has skill, speed, strength, an eye for a goal and can produce something spectacular out of nothing. Improvements in his work ethic and I still think he'll go on to be the top player we thought we'd signed in the summer.

I didn't want Memphis initially because I knew this would happen: struggling to adjust, making poor decision, showing too little effort, that immaturity and behaving like a diva etc. And I was afraid we would be too thin upfront to afford having a temporarily deadwood. But now that Martial and Lingard are putting in excellent performances, I am not too bothered to be fair.
But at the same time I also knew from the start he had massive potential, I never doubted it and I am not doubting it now: it's only up to him to work harder and harder. He can turn this around easily. If not he will simply be shown the door and end up at Southampton or Everton.
It's up to him really, but I not worried anymore. Good if he makes it and turns this around because he can become a massive player. Otherwise, we have other promising young guys who will gladly take his place.
Perhaps this is exactly what he needed to launch his career properly. A tough time, with the necessity to work harder to turn the situation around and adopt the right spirit.

The last couple of times he played he looked terrible, like Jamie said he looked like he wasn't putting any effort, but I just think it's too early to write him off. Of course I have no idea what's going on behind closed doors, I personally like his attitude - he's a complete dick and that could be great if it's combined with great football and is used against your opponents. But from all reports he's being a dick to his own teammates which is a problem.
