League cup is back on Wednesday and we're at home to the losing play-off finalists in the Championship from last season. They've started the season well again and shouldn't be completely underestimated but we should be able to rotate and still beat them well. I think Memphis should get back into the starting lineup, chance to see how him being left out of the lineup in the last 3 games has affected him. I'd go with: De Gea Darmian Jones Blind Rojo Carrick Herrera Lingard Fellaini Memphis Wilson If Wilson isn't fit I'd be tempted to play Memphis up front and Pereira on the left or Young if he's fit.

That would have been a great opportunity for McNair if he was fit. Too bad. Don't know about Wilson, I thought he was injured or something. Be good to see him, but I'd also be tempted to try Lingard - Pereira - Memphis with Fellaini up front. I'm not convinced Van Gaal will make so many changes though.

I think we'll definitely see a few changes. Maybe not in defence besides Valencia due to injury but I think midfield and attack will be rotated. If Memphis doesn't start then things must be quite serious in relation to his attitude behind the scenes as I'd have thought he'd be a shoe in to start this game. I'd also be very surprised not to see Fellaini play and to not see Carrick at least come in for Schweinsteiger. Other than that I'm not quite sure.

Wouldn't be against that team, I think he might keep the back pairing and bring Blind/Darmian to the full backs. I expect Carrick and Memphis to come back in as well.
Lingard definitely deserves to start but Wilson is probably pushing it, so upfront Martial/Roo. Rooney's been poor but not quite so much as to entertain the thought of Fellaini there.

Yeah Wilson is more down to wishful thinking. I think with Lingard featuring in the last 3 games it's not really an issue if he doesn't play. We all now know he's part of the managers plans in some capacity and won't just get his chance in league cup games. Pereira started the Ipswich game so he may be the one of them to come in again.

Not an issue but LVG does tend to reward and Jesse is in a great moment at the minute so I'd be a little surprised if he didn't keep that going. I remember being unhappy to put it nicely about the youngsters not featuring against Ipswich, think I jumped the gun there

Meh... Game didn't get going until late on. Our finishing was quite abysmal, had 4 or 5 clear chances and fluffed our lines every time. Those penos were another level though. The lack of composure from Rooney, Carrick and Young was pathetic. Then you look at a kid like Pereira who looked the most experienced out of the lot. Buncha bottlers.
Lingard was the standout for me, he's growing in stature and again came close to winning a game for us but was denied by the crossbar. Thought Pereira did well as well. Some very nice touches and wasn't as easily bullied as I thought he'd be at this level, he also did his job defensively and was unlucky with an effort just wide in E.T.
Memphis was appalling and has some serious improving to do before he's anywhere near the first team in a higher priority fixture.
Not the biggest issue in the world but that's a big trophy chance gone.

Oh and that bald cunt of a ref was an absolute joke. Never gave us a thing and that handball from Ayala in E.T was as blatant as anything you'll see.

A nothing first half, then the match sprung to life in the second half, end to end cup tie which could have gone either way if the finishing was better. Exciting match towards the end.
Positives... erm.... Lingard was bright, up and down the flank all day long, unlucky not to score but done himself no harm at all. Pereira again moved the ball around well, delivered some great balls and corners too again done himself no harm and a cool penalty from him.
As for the rest, abysmal finishing, Rooney useless, pathetic penalties.
The referee and his team, the bald weasels gave us nothing and two blatant penalties denied capped off a poor evening.
Ah well, you could see it coming.

Getting tired of these performances where we're coming out of the blocks far too slowly and just go through the motions. 3 times in a week now and all we have to talk about is our late splurges. No idea what the cautious starts against these teams are all about.
Everton another false dawn. for it to happen 3 times in a week is hardly an accident.

Just depends on your opinion on the first 2 games. Moscow was always going to be a tough away fixture, it was a good professional display and a good result in the end. The City game, I maintain was a good performance in a good match, they defended superbly and I don't think there's much we could've done with the team we had on the pitch. I still think you take Rooney out of the equation and stick Martial up front it's a different matter, I believe he's effecting our game much more than others think.
I agree on tonight but I think it all boils down to them buying into LVG's philosophy. They treat every game in a similar manner, the aim is to control the game, give away as few chances as possible and create chances patiently regardless of the opposition. I'd like to see a bit more risk against obviously inferior sides but I don't think it will happen and I accept that. It's not a coincidence that we come on more late in games, it's all down to his way of playing. You make the opposition do all the running, so late in the game you can pick them off.
I think you also have to look at the opposition again, as well as the changes we made. They put out a strong side and they're a good championship club with the best defensive record in the league. I think they defended excellently all night.
