Back to Europe on Wednesday and a tough away trip to Moscow beckons with the group completely wide open as all teams are on 3 points after 2 games. They're top of the Russian league which won't be a surprise to anyone. They played City twice in last years competition, drawing at home and beating them at the Etihad so they're going to be a very dangerous side and hard to beat.
We've only played them away once and won 1-0 in 2009.
I don't know what others think but I think we can't afford to rotate much over these next 2 games. Both are very important and we need to put out as good a side as we possibly can. After the City game it's back to the league cup, so if we have to rest players we can do it then.
So with that in mind, I'd be going with the exact same side as that which started against Everton. If all goes well, Basti comes off for Carrick again around the 60 minute mark to keep him fresh(ish) for City.
If we play as well as we did against Everton there's no doubt we can get the same scoreline against these guys. Though I think the atmosphere will be tougher and the fact we've had to make a long trip to Russia rather than nipping up the road to Merseyside is sure to have an impact.
I think we'll win 2-1.

Agree about keeping the same side but more important than that is we keep the same intensity as we did against Everton. I don't like this slow possession game we sometimes play. We don't look comfortable and as a result our play suffers. Give our players more freedom like they had against Everton and I'm sure we will see a positive change. We keep the same tactics I can see us scrapping a win, we try to play too much possession I can see us losing. Which means it will end in a draw

We shouldn't underestimate them but I think there's room for a few changes with City in mind, wouldn't be surprised to see Blind and Carrick come back into the fold for example.

As far as I remember CSKA play pretty rough so I wouldn't mind putting Fellaini out there. Plus, we got City next in the PL so we can't exhaust our main players. Might be a good idea to start Memphis against CSKA though

It's not a be all end all game but we should go all out to make sure we at least don't lose. Can't really see a place for Blind tbh. Smalling is a cert to start and Jones could use the game time. Against Everton the defence seemed very solid whereas when Blind plays (I'm not saying he's to blame) we do look more shakey. Memphis until he learns to defend as well as attack shouldn't start in these big games especially with Shaw being out. Rojo played well the other day but LB is not our strongest position at the minute and I don't think we can afford to have an attacker on the left who won't help out defensively. Young would be perfect if fit. Herrera has to start with Mata and Basti and I'd much rather see Morgan than Carrick. Rooney for the first time this season deserves to keep his place even though he was still pretty average but it was an improvement from him. Martial picks himself but I just hope he doesn't suffer from burnout come the new year.

Been effective in UCL games, Memphis, I'd drop him back in, see how he responds after being dropped.

I'd also like to see Memphis come back into the side. I feel it was absolutely the correct decision to drop him yesterday, but he's looked a different player in the CL.

Who for? If he goes on the left, Martial goes back central with Rooney in behind. No Herrera. Ideally we'd have no Rooney but that aint going to happen. So it's a straight choice between Memphis and Herrera, unless he decides to give Martial a break which I can't see happening.
The only other option is playing Herrera in central midfield with Schneiderlin but I don't see that happening either, not away in the champions league anyway.

I can see him splitting it between Martial and Memphis. Keeps Martial nice and fresh for Sunday

I didn't get as far as thinking about who he'd come in for, if I'm honest. Ideally, Rooney drops to the bench and Memphis comes in, but as you mentioned that's not going to happen.
Perhaps it'd be best if he was to remain on the bench, for now. It's more important that Herrera and Martial start. Having said that, I'd like to see Memphis at least feature, whether that be 10/20/30 minutes.

I just think Martial is too important to take out right now. Rooney's just coming back from a little injury himself so maybe he starts on the bench, you never know. I think it's an important game. Get this won and win the return at Old Trafford and we've got 1 foot in the next round which will enable us to rotate a little in at least 1 of the last 2 games. Stick with the same side for me.

Van Gaal reveals team plans for Moscow
Louis van Gaal has revealed to MUTV that Sergio Romero and Antonio Valencia are set to travel with the Manchester United squad for the Champions League tie against CSKA Moscow.
With all four teams in Group B on three points after two games, the Reds are looking to take a positive step towards qualification with victory in the Russian capital on Wednesday.
Ahead of the flight to Moscow, the boss declared Romero and Valencia are back in contention after missing the fabulous 3-0 win at Everton due to their World Cup qualifying exertions in South America.
James Wilson is to remain in Manchester due to illness but Jesse Lingard, fresh from his first outing of the season as a second-half substitute at Goodison Park, looks set to keep his place in the squad.
"It's the same amount of injuries so Luke Shaw, Paddy McNair and Ashley Young are not going with us," van Gaal exclusively told MUTV. "Willo was a little bit ill – Wilson as he is named but, for us, it is Willo – so he shall not travel with us.
"I'll take 20 players with me. It's a four-hour flight so, if a player gets ill, I have the other player in my environment.
"Of course that was the reason [Romero and Valencia were absent at Everton]. They have to cope with the jet-lag so I didn't think it was wise to take them with us against Everton."

I have to say United surprised me at Goodison Park and that is a really stunning result for them to bounce back from their 3-0 defeat at the Emirates, producing such an such an impressive win.
It was important for Wayne Rooney to get a goal and, while Anthony Martial is beginning to settle down a bit and Memphis Depay isn't really capturing my imagination in terms of fitting into the system, I do quite like it when Ander Herrera and Morgan Schneiderlin play together.
I do think United will get something but this is a difficult game and I think they'd be happy to get a draw.
Charlie predicts: 1-1
