Fantastic performance and a great response to the shambles at Arsenal. Thought everyone played their part. Smalling was the beast he's been all season, Basti controlled the game but the standout performer was Herrera. He's shown time and time again, this season and last that he's the best player to be that link between midfield and attack for us. He has to start getting the recognition from the manager, I think he's barely put a foot wrong since he came here.
I think we proved today that we're going to be in this title race for the long haul. To bounce back in that fashion against an in form and very good side in Everton was great to see.

Manager's presser: he was delighted with how the players responded, thought we had the element of surprise with our selection and one of the final things he said after being asked about our ability to win the title was "WHEN we win against City next week then you can say we're challengers." (or something along those lines).
WHEN!!!! haha

(watching the rugby lol)but yeah bring on City. Should be a great game. Equally as important are the games for both teams midweek ahead of the derby. Hopefully the right balance can be struck with the changes ahead of the derby. City are home midweek and we're away in Moscow so that will have to come into play and was highlighted as soon as the fixtures were released for our group. 2 massive games. Lets hope Arsenal was a blip and we can pick up where we left off today starting away on Wednesday to CSKA who are pretty decent at home.

Glad with the performance and the spirit the lads showed today. Great response from the disaster at Arsenal. Things I want to keep from this game:
- Herrera has to start in that CAM spot. It's his own. Even more so when Mata is on the right flank as their mutual movements and understanding are very difficult to handle for any team. - Smalling is turning into a beast, and Jones did really well too. I feel a lot more comfortable with that defence tbh. Nothing against Blind, but I just prefer more physical, aggressive and pacey defences. - Martial will turn out to be the bargain of the decade. What a player he is going to be, his composure and maturity is amazing. And strong as an ox as well.
Everyone had a great game as it was a good team performance, and I have no doubt LVG will be pleased with it. It was all about control, being solid at the back, being mature in midfield, and being clinical upfront.
My only concern remains Rooney. Despite a well taken goal and an overal better performance, I still think LVG's priority should be a quality striker this very January if things haven't improved by then.

i see common sense prevails and we don't have carrick and schweiny starting in midfield again (they should literally never start together ever, its a terrible combination) also ROONEY FINALLY SCORES, what a game he had, finally he decides to show up
Herrera man of the match, he is sensational, him and schneiderlin are #1 and #2 at central midfield, it isn't even close now.
back four is solid, Jones was good and Smalling was all class, he has stepped up and become the man in defense, we won't need a CB anymore i can tell you that, Smalling is filling the shoes of his predecessors nicely.
Martial was unlucky to not get into the goals, so skillful on the ball
Lingard had a nice showing himself which is good to see
i would take Barkley at untied any day though after seeing that, him as an attacking mid for us would be special. Also good that even though Mata was quiet, we did really well still.
anyway overall, we had the right response after last weeks debacle, good selection from LVG, this is the sort of side we should be starting for most games (a combination of schneiderlin/fellaini and herrera/schweiny/carrick)

Superb performance, I never had any doubts about this game as I mentioned in OP that we can expect a response. Herrera should start every game from now.
Still I feel Martial should play as no. 9.

You do realise our central midfield was Schweinsteiger and Schneiderlin. Herrera played at the tip of the 3 as an attacking mid which is by far the best position for him. Herrera was superb and the best player on the pitch, no doubt about it but Schweinsteiger controlled the whole flow of the game and was just as important to Yesterday's result as Herrera. Also, Fellaini should never.....EVER be used in central midfield unless it's part of a 3 man midfield.
Kinda funny how you're waxing lyrical about Herrera then say you'd take Barkley in an instant in the attacking mid position, thus getting rid of Herrera.
Other than that I agree with what you're saying. I forgot to mention Lingard originally. I thought he did himself no harm whatsoever. Good on the ball, tracked back well and helped out Darmian. LVG commented on him after the match as well saying he did well. So hopefully he gets a few more chances during the season.
It was just a great game to watch from our perspective. I'm too happy with the overall performance of the side to even bother pointing out Rooney's flaws again (even though I think he was much better today).
Best performance of the season and it tells you a lot about this side and the manager that it comes after getting mauled by Arsenal. Fergie was a master at getting the team to bounce back after defeat and LVG seems to be the same.

Cracking performance and result considering, even if Everton weren't fully at it. We need to find that level of consistency of performance now, without it we won't win anything, not the league anyway. Telling 7 days ahead but if they play with that mentality and purpose then we have every chance of nudging a Derby win - and City will be out for revenge on that one.

I expect a much tighter and cagier derby game this year. Last year City were looking to come and give us a beating, thinking us inferior to them. Whereas this season, with the progress we've made they'll be happy to come and get a point IMO. Which means their main concern will be on keeping it tight at the back. I think either side will nick it 1-0 or it'll be a low scoring draw.

Just finished watching the game. I don't know why people are shitting themselves over Rooney's performance yesterday. Yeah, he scored, but he also missed at least 2 other 100% chances. Thought the midfield did a great job, couple misses here and there but that's to be expected. Martial-Rooney-Mata looks great, I'd keep it for now. Overall, a good performance and a great result. CSKA next, that's definitely going to be a tough one.
