Still detrimental to the team I think. Don't know what it will do to his confidence if he keeps getting taken off instead of coming off the bench fired up when the other team are tiring.

That's the big difference - the psychological aspect of it. If he starts it says "you're good enough, I trust you to do a good job" and then when he's taken off at HT it's a big confidence hit. But if he doesn't get into the starting team and gets on as a sub is more like "you're the man who can make an impact".

I think he's young and still learning, therefore shouldn't expect to be in the team all the time especially when he's not performing well. The needs of the team is more important than the needs of 1 player. It's unfair on other players in the squad if he keeps starting whilst underperforming. He seems like a confident lad so being benched will hopefully make him royally pissed off, enough that when he gets back into the side he has more of an impact and wants to show the manager that he made the wrong decision to bench him. Like I've said I'm not saying he's shit and that he should never play. I'm merely saying he needs a few games out of the firing line. There's only so long you can keep playing a player who's in poor form, same applies to Rooney. You have to feel that if their performances continue to be off, which is having an effect on the team's performances, the manager will simply have to make changes. I'd like to see: Dave Darmian Smalling Jones Blind Schneiderlin Carrick Mata Herrera Young Martial If Herrera is still out Pereira in the number 10 slot.

Beautiful ginger bastard.
On the injuries he says Herrera and Rojo are fit but can't play 90 mins. So Rooney will defo start (wasn't in doubt anyway). Young is also out so Memphis also keeps his place. Schweinsteiger is expected to be fit as the manager didn't mention him when speaking about injuries.

I disappointed that LVG is giving chances after to Rooney and Fellaini instead of Pereira and Wilson. And Herrera's case is annoying, he hasnt done anything wrong whenever he got a chance but he just cant get a regular spot in the team. I cant see him staying here if LVG keeps doing this.

I think Herrera is having a repeat of last season - the times he played he lost a few balls, and that's a big no-no for Van Gaal. Not to mention he said he prefers a versatile striker in that point of the triangle role. I'm sure he'll start getting more games as the season progresses. With that being said though, Fellaini fits that role and creates chaos, along with having no trouble with the physical side of the game, so he's a bigger mystery for me. But whatever is happening remains in training so we might never know

Memphis loses the ball way more than Herrera and still starts every game??

One thing is obvious is we need a change up front. Young being out injured changes things slightly but if I could choose I wouldn't mind seeing Martial out on the left, Wilson up front with Herrera and Mata in support with Basti and Morgi behind. What's the chances? Memphis I still believe will make it big but first he has to change his attitude. That takes time which is why I don't think he should be a guaranteed starter. The question has to be asked if he wasn't Dutch would he be?

Of course he would , they've just paid 25m + for him and need him bedded in and firing quickly as possible. And we still don't have an abundance of top notch attacking options at the club yet. Needs must atm and Memphis is it, specially with Young out.

I think Martial would do an excellent job out on the left, he's played there as much as he's played as a striker in his career. The issue is losing his speed and strength from the strikers position. As much as I like Wilson he's not ready to play as a number 9 for us against this quality of opposition and in this formation. He's got the eye for a goal and he's got speed but he's not a bully, I think Everton would defend pretty comfortably against him if he started the game. He'd have more of an impact coming from the bench later on in the game where he could try and use his pace against tiring legs. I also don't think it makes sense to drop Memphis, only to stick our best performer out on the left, losing what he's given us up front since he came.
I wouldn't mind seeing Lingard play there, although it's a tough game to throw him in for his first game of the season. With Young out, Memphis will and should keep his place. Lets hope things start to click with him this weekend, being terrible for the Netherlands in the week might give him a further kick up the arse.

The thing I like about Martial is he can score goals from numerous positions as we seen against Loserpool when he came in from the left and scored that wonderful goal. Playing on the left would a!so give us the added bonus of him creating more chances for others, something we've been lacking most of the season. One thing defenders can't stand is skilful players running at them but you're right, who does he pass it to? Maybe I'm clutching at straws with Wilson but he is a fast, intelligent player. If we throw balls into the box he wouldn't stand a chance against Everton but if we move the ball about with pace which we could do with Martial, Wilson, Mata and Herrera then Wilson will find spaces. Pointless debate as we all know Rooney will play  Lingard is a very strange one. For me he was/is the best of the bunch with our youth players in the sense of being influential during games. He can play in a number of positions and not look out of place but it's impossible for him to grow if he can't even get a game on the bench.

Great win for us, 3 points and a clean sheet in a tricky week of fixtures.
Very good performance from us, especially first half, Everton weren't great and people might say that the earlier events had an effect but we responded to the defeat last week in a very professional manner.
Smalling was a beast at the back, the back four on a whole were solid, Schneiderlin was very good, his passing on point and it's good to see him trying those raking passes. Martial sacrificed himself a little but was still a threat and defensively did his job, Herrera quality as well.
This team is the way to go in these big games.

Best 90 minute performance of the season for me. We played with a lot of energy and as a complete unit. First half Mata, Herrera and Basti ran the show with Smalling making sure we kept a clean sheet. Second half after Mata was taken off and Basti tired we still kept our shape and even though Everton had more of the ball we still looked in complete control. Any chance Everton had was stifled by Smalling and De Gea. The players looked like they were given more freedom today and it showed. Hopefully this system will be kept and worked on, then I wouldn't fear anyone.
