When is the right time to experiment then?

With Depay once he gets used to playing in the PL. It's hard enough getting used to a new league without extra pressure of playing in a position alien to you. His best position is playing on the left. Play him there to get his confidence high then start to experiment. If not it could have the opposite effect and he loses whatever confidence he had.

I'd say it has the opposite, LVG trusts Memphis enough to give him a new role. I think Memphis seems like the type of player who relishes the challenge and that can only be a confidence boost.

Now de gea has told his pals that he didn't say he wasn't ready to play. So who's telling the truth then?

I don't care. The manager is doing the right thing as far as I'm concerned. De Gea is getting a little too much respect in this whole situation for me. Yes he's been our best player for 2 seasons but before that there were huge question marks over him, we stood by him and helped him develop into one of the best goalkeepers in the world. He repays us by wanting to leave after just 4 fucking seasons of being here and seems quite happy to go for absolutely nothing next summer.
I'd respect him a lot more if he signed a new deal and stayed for another couple of seasons with a mutual agreement that we'd sell him to Madrid or even Barca in 2 years time with more power in our hands. As it stands we are the party with the least power in the whole situation. He doesn't care either way, he's getting payed this season whether he leaves or not and if he doesn't he knows he can leave next summer. Madrid can cope without him for a year and just sign him for free next summer. We can play hard ball and make him see out his contract which we should do if Madrid don't stump up the cash but it's only a very minor victory.
Quite frankly if he stays this season I'd be inclined to leave him on the bench anyway. Especially if Romero builds on the promise he showed in that first game.

I'd stick him on the bench as backup to Romero. Think that's more humiliating to be honest.

I agree that Depay does seem the type to relish a challenge which he has demonstrated taken the number 7 Jersey but it's only a confidence boost if you can excel in the position but I would think it would be more of a confidence boost playing in his natural position, getting the ball and taking players on, getting old Trafford buzzing every time he touches the ball. VG has said he wants to play with wide players. Depay is the best or at least most natural we have. It's only common sense to play him there. Just because he's an exceptional talent doesn't always mean he will excel in other positions. Even though he was a gutless bastard Di Maria was wasted in too many games playing wide left, wide right and even point on his own, Rooney is a much better forward than CM. As CM he is a little better than average. Mata is an attacking player but last season he spent more time in our box than in the oppositions making him look decidedly average. Against Tottenham we were pretty ineffective. Young although good in defence brought nothing to the team in attack, Depay started off pretty well but ended up looking lost. Personally I'd like to see Young on the bench with Depay playing out left. The very least it would do is make us more dangerous in attack. With Carrick and Morgan sitting in the middle we can afford to take more risks.

I think the media are making a mountain out of a molehill, the situation is the same as last week. LVG has always said that De Gea has always been professional, if he wasn't being then we'd know about it like with Valdes.

So who's telling the truth then? VG. The DG camp should have just said 'yeah, until the end of the window.' It's a perfectly justified position and probably accurate and honest but back pedalling makes you look a cunt.

If there's any truth in it it could be that the De Gea camp is advising him to stir the shit to break down any relationship left and forcing the club to sell him. A couple of things I don't understand about our goalkeeping situation. Why is De Gea in such a rush to get to Madrid when Madrid already have a fantastic keeper in Kiko Casilla? Casilla is sure to start as first choice in the opening game and if he plays well it's going to be hard to drop him. Why is there no clubs interested in signing Valdes?

Sounds about right Hamster, as for Valdes I'm guessing he's on top wages and in no hurry to move.

All fair point buts equally LVG has given his reasons and I can see a method to the madness Thought he did ok against Spurs, was involved in our best attacking play in the goal and the period just after. Got into some good areas, nice link up just as in pre season so enough to build on. It's too early to write him off in that role is all I'm saying. Is it just me excited by the prospect of Memphis and Roo.

It's that singing witch init  mmmmmm? would i or wouldn't i? oh go on then. To be fair to De Gea these rumours about her not being happy with him in manchester started about 2 years ago. Guess he stuck it out as much as he could.
