I just noticed that nobody has created a thread for this so there it goes... First match of the season, the players had enough time to recover from the tour so the expectations will be higher. Van Gaal has mentioned he might go for a 433 so I'd go with De Gea Darmian Smalling Blind Shaw Carrick Schneiderlin Herrera Mata Rooney Memphis I'm not convinced Herrera would be starting though, judging by the tour he's takes a step down the pecking order of midfielders

There's no way I'd like to see Blind continue as CB. I'd prefer to see Blackett or McNair there. Yes they did have a few dodgy games last season but I'd put that down more to playing in a 3 man defence. Any time I've seen them play in a 4 man defence they look extremely comfortable. I can understand us playing with 2 holding men but it does seem a bit negative. Personally I'd like to see Carrick playing his normal sweepers role with Schneiderlin and Herrera playing slightly ahead. If Herrera doesn't play it will be my first serious question this season over VG. Front 3 of Mata, Depay and Rooney and I can only see a comfortable win for us.

Is Schweinsteiger out with injury? Yeah, he has a knock of some sort.

Is Schweinsteiger out with injury? Yeah, he has a knock of some sort. pity. Would have paired him with Schneiderlin. Hopefully Herrera gets to see some minutes as well. However I am not sure who is he gonna replace.

We'll see how it goes. I'll be disappointed if Herrera doesn't start vs Spurs but I won't jump to too many conclusions until after a few games. Lets face it if he starts on the bench and we go and smash them 5-0 we won't be too concerned then.

I want Herrera to start as much as the next man, but if he doesn't always, then it's not the end of the world. There are now vastly experienced players in...Schneiderlin, Bastian, Carrick and Mata ahead of him, but if he holds tough, his chance to shine will come. BELIEVE!

Same here, not too worried if Herrera doesn't start, or even gets any time tomorrow, for all we know he's behind the others fitness wise, maybe that's why he didn't start on tour. We'll see how it goes. Not thrilled about Blind as well, but Rojo has been training for just a week or so, and Blind actually did well on pre-season.

I will like Herrera to start cos he understand the EPL more than Schweni...but next match Schweini should start.

Merson
I’m going to go with Manchester United here but I have concerns whether their new signings will have had time to gel before the start of the season. You never know, Bastian Schweinsteiger may struggle to make the transition to the Premier League – after all it is a lot different to having 85 per cent possession like Bayern Munich have been known to have in the Bundesliga.
The Premier League is hustle and bustle where you have a dominant game yet only have 65 per cent possession. I’ve seen a lot of players come over and struggle to adapt to the league, but I’ll save my judgement on United’s signings until we’re well into the season.
As for Spurs, I watched them against the MLS All-Stars and they started poorly and were 2-0 down in no time. If they do that at Old Trafford they’re going to be in trouble. Saying that, I expect things to be tight with United just edging it.
PAUL PREDICTS: 1-0

We have started to dominate possession now so Bastian shouldnt have to much trouble adapting, but I actually dont see Depay starting on saturday. I think Ander may start on his place.
