It is hype and LVG did warn about exactly where he's at but it's worth the exploratory with Rooney and there were signs of gelling there. Schweinsteiger needs the minutes, he's in for a shock as it stands, Carrick's not far behind him wanting minutes either. It just wasn't great all round tbh. Like people keep saying maybe it's a blessing, maybe it focuses minds.

Ed you did suggest this would happen with Memphis as the point forward, LVG's comments are confusing so we'll just have to wait and see.
The match yesterday started well but once we conceded we just seem to lose whatever we were working on, in the final third dreadful. The main positives were the full backs, I think we are in for an exciting season with Shaw and Darmian in full flow.
With Memphis he was very much like he is at PSV very raw, greedy at times, poor decision making but still in that game there were signs of a partnership for him and Roo, he endlessly tries, PSG as soon as he touched the ball were all over him so they knew what a threat he can be. He's young and that partnership needs to grow, I like him.
I fear for Ander now, he'll get games but doesn't look like being a constant fixture. Schneiderlin will force his way in and he'll stick it out, no worries there.
If 4231 is the way he wants to go I'd rather buy a striker, put Rooney behind, Memphis left and Mata right.

It was like the whole squad was off, except for Darmian and maybe Shaw. I've been pleased with Memphis so far - obviously last night wasn't his best display, but overall I think he's showed exactly what we expected of him - eagerness, some great skills and the rest is just stupid mistakes from being new and inexperienced. These little mistakes would seem a lot bigger in a PL game though, so I hope he works on that. Same concerns about Herrera, but he managed to fight his way into the first team last season, he'll do it again in this one. Just saw this : www.manutd.com/en/Tour-2015/News-and-Features/2015/Jul/louis-van-gaal-confirms-preferred-manchester-united-formation.aspxSo apparently we're going to a 433

I think he's shown his attributes, he's quick, skillful and strong but he's shown poor decision making in nearly every game Nothing new here. That's why I was reluctant to bring him in. I don't doubt his potential though, but there is a lot of work becfore he reaches a world-class level. But that won't prevent him from being decisive in many games I think. Although, like many, I don't get why he isn't played on a wing where he pace and overal ability would benefit the team. That's one of those decisions where I don't get LVG's ideas. Same with keeping Herrera on the bench. He was one of our best player last season, he still is, and yet we're benching him for absolutely no reason. What actually bothers me is that it's very unfair and unjustified. Because he would moreover bring a lot to the team and to our link up play. I really think Schneiderlin has to play along with Herrera with 1 of Carrick/Schweinsteiger And so, yes, I completely agree. Keeping in mind we have to plan for the future as well. We need to make sure both of them are world class when Carrick retires and Schweini gets older. I have to say I have been very, very disappointed with our pre-season line ups. I miss those 3 in the middle badly. Especially now that we have better players available. And a better winger in Depay.

If 4231 is the way he wants to go I'd rather buy a striker, put Rooney behind, Memphis left and Mata right. Yeah same here. And if we can get Pedro, I wold put Pedro on the right instead of Mata. A lot of pace and trickery in the final third. But to me, that type of formation is more suited to a counter-attacking philosophy. Because both Carrick and Schneiderlin stay rather deep. It's like we're missing a connection in between midfield and attack if we want to keep possession properly. I think at least one of them has to take responsibility and add a body further up the pitch when we have the ball. Making a flat midfield in possession isn't going to help our cause.

I'm just glad that it seems like LVG will go with the 4-3-3 instead of keep experimenting with the 4-2-3-1
I don't like the idea of Schweinsteiger and Carrick together on the pitch. There is no pace there. The midfield 3 must be Herrera, Schneiderlin, and Schweinsteiger/Carrick - like Jamie said.
As for the front three, I'm slightly worried by Rooney's form but usually it takes him a good run of games for him to get in good form. I think Mata would do much better playing behind Rooney than Depay would, but I'm expecting both to play wide. This will probably suit Depay but I think Mata doesn't have the pace. We'll see.
Darmian and Shaw are great going forward, but the cb's don't inspire much confidence. I get worried about Darmian/Shaw running forward and leaving our defenders in a bit of trouble on the counter. Still think a centerback would be a extremely helpful signing.

Darmian has arguably been the biggest success of the tour. Very impressed with him going forward and defensively.

what about our french player? Did he do well in the tour? Schneiderlin has seemed to settle in nicely, not looked out of place at all and has been our best midfielder on tour. I think he's certain to be a regular next season.

Very impressed with him going forward and defensively. Especially defensively from what I've seen. His positioning or defending in one-on-one situations is very good. I 've found him a bit wasteful in his final ball. But nothing to worry about. He's a solid signing for sure.

I feel of late that we will be going all out attack in a 4-3-3.....Depay left, Pedro (if he comes) or Mata on the right and Rooney through the middle. We can then alternate between Herrera, or Bastian just ahead of Morgan or Carrick behind them. I think Young is gone and Tony V. has done his job for the club, but Darmian will replace him along with Luke Shaw realising his potential should cover our wings and then it's a toss-up between Smalling, Jones, Rojo and then Evans or even Blind for the CB post.

I'll go on record and say the obsession with a left and right footed CBs is bullshit and Blind at CB is bullshit. The sooner it's exposed the better and he might move on.

I don't want us to lose , because that's bad but the weakness needs to be exposed before the end of the window Anyway, some silliness from the tour.. http://instagr.am/p/5xXbgYoHqr
