Pretty much covered the match between Miguel and Jamie, it was a good run out.
The new players fitted like a glove, Darmian very confident on the ball and bombing forward, Schneiderlin was pinging passes all over, neat short passing and got a goal, Basti is a top pro so calm and collected on the ball. Memphis with his pace a threat but just a little rusty in the final third.

I agree with Matt as well and LVG said pretty much that at his presser, having quality players and a stable first team will allow us to blood more youngsters.

Van Gaal told a news conference in Seattle on Friday: “We have Rooney, he can play in strikers’ position, and all media had written he should play there so I listen and now you put this question so don’t know what you want.
“Also Chicharito and maybe James Wilson and maybe there comes a surprise.
“It’s a process. I’m not worried about that position.”

Oh I also think young Johnstone did well in goal last night, a few misplaced back passes came his way but he dealt with them well and seemed very quick off his line, smothered a good chance they had. Hope he sticks around as 3rd choice keeper this season. Completely agree. His decision-making at times surprised me, because it was really good and saved us from conceding.

I had to rewatch it to make sure I wasn't under the euphoria of seeing a proper midfield. Pretty boring game if I have to be honest, nothing too crazy but it's alright for a first game and a friendly at that. What made it interesting were the new signings - mirroring others' words Darmian was really solid, Schneiderlin looked like he's ready to take on a PL team, Bastian looked sharp and Memphis, even if he got a bit selfish, made some decent runs and wasn't afraid to put a foot in. Very promising start to all of them. Johnstone made some great saves, has to be said, even more impressive because I wasn't expecting it from him. I'd have him ahead of Lindegaard for the next matches. Shaw annoyed me with his casual jogging back, think he might be suffering from the Evra virus, hope he sorts this out.
Hopefully we'll see different 11s in the next game based on this one, I'm curious to see what Van Gaal makes of it

De Gea not playing again tonight. Am I still reading too much into it?
