100m ish, sorted I agree with your summer dealings. But I am somehow still undecided about the CM we should bring in. A part of me want a player like Pogba: the world class CM, potentially a ballon d'or winner. But a part of me also want a clever and solid player able to cover for Carrick/Blind, who will adjust to the tactical demands of our system, or operate brilliantly as a box-box and Schneiderlin is that man. I am really looking forward to this summer anyway.

I just think an all round box to box man that can cover different positions might just be more beneficial to us than a specialist. I'm sure we'll be in the running for Pogba though it's just whether we can pull it off. I think everyone can agree on that last point

What has Rafael done to be considered worse then Antionio 'run forrest run' valencia Not fitting in Philosophy well enough like Antonio does and too injury prone, unlike Antonio. That's my guess work.

Valencia's been fantastic recently. He's a far more consistent and reliable performer than Rafa will ever be. Even if Rafa undoubtedly has the most ability in that position.

I guess the injuries have taken their toll. Says a lot when a winger is a better right back than your right back. Credit to Valencia as he's done a great job this season. I really like Rafa though, I'd be sad to see him go but right now it seems very likely to happen

Unless we buy a world-class right back, I don't think I would even think about changing Valencia from that right back position. He has made that spot his own. And he has had a brilliant season.

to be honest i would sell them both and get Clyne and someone else as right back (maybe promote someone or just get Varela back)
1. if Rafael isn't in the plans, its obvious we will sell him 2. Valencia is injury prone. its a given he will be out at least a quarter of any given season (at least)

Valencia has pkayed the majority of this season and if im right the only time he has been out for long has been when he broke his leg. Other than that he has been available

Yeah I don't remember him being out for a serious length of time besides the leg break a few years ago. He's not injury prone. I don't know how much Spens has watched us recently but I don't see how anyone who has watched us can say they'd get rid of Valencia. He's probably one of the most in form right backs around at this moment in time. 1 momentary lapse of concentration in the F.A cup vs Arsenal but other than that he's been rock solid defensively and been linking up brilliantly with Herrera and Mata down that right hand side.
Nevermind sell him I think any right back that we sign in the summer is going to have their work cut out to get a game! (Cue a terrible performance vs Everton)

the question at hand is, is he better than nathaniel clyne though (would have to say not) he has been decent recently. not great. certainly no where near fellaini or young in terms of resurgence

I think right now he's better than Clyne. I'd have Clyne in there as competition should we sell Rafa but I wouldn't expect him to take that starting spot straight away as I don't think he's been that impressive against the top sides and in International football against lesser opposition he's looked poor as well. To be honest if we're going to take a right back away from a prem club I'd still be going for Coleman instead.
Valencia's been one of the most consistent performers during the season for us. He's always had the physical attributes to play right back which is why every manager has played him there at some point but he'd normally fuck up mentally. Under Van Gaal he looks like he's learned how to play the position better, he rarely gives away possession, he's linking up well down the right, doesn't get caught out as often at the back and is even showing the zest of old taking defenders on, using his superior strength and speed to beat his opponent.
If we're going to continue with the 2 of Herrera and Mata on the right hand side of the midfield we're going to need someone with the strength and speed of Valencia to provide the width down there for attacks. Don't see any reason to change a currently winning dynamic.
