Turns out the 'HurriKane' is more of a mild summer breeze. Apart from a couple of nice turns he did literally nothing all afternoon.
Thoroughly enjoyed the first half, it was a glimpse into van Gaal's long term plan and all three goals were brilliantly taken.
Have to say though I'm massively disappointed with the attitude shown in the second half. Whilst I can agree with people saying we were professional and just consolidated the win, I felt like we could've hit them for 6 or 7 if we'd have piled on the pressure in the second half. Completely shutting a game down like that will do more to turn me off van Gaal than any of his weird and wonderful substitutions. We may as well have all packed up and fucked off home at half time.

I would have liked to see us hit them for 5/6 but I wasn't disappointed that we didn't. Spurs had more of the ball in the 2nd half than they did in the 1st and were a little more solid at the back. We were a little more patient in our attacking play which was sensible as far as I'm concerned, we still created a couple of openings.
If we dismantle teams like that in the first half on a regular basis I'll happily watch a more conservative approach in the second half.

They only had more of the ball because we were content to let them and hold the shape. The opportunity was there to really tear into them but we refused it.
I said at half time we're either going to absolutely smash these or the second half will be a complete non-event, and nothing in between. It being the latter was the annoying thing. I really wouldn't like to see that on a regular basis, there may be a logic to it at times against sides who are imposing a threat of their own and we're having to really work for openings. But he's done the same thing now against Newcastle, Leicester and Spurs.
And not only that, the race for the top four is so tight that goal difference may play a part, one or two big wins would go a long way to adding to that. The second half yesterday was an opportunity missed as far as I'm concerned.

I see your point. I even commented myself Yesterday that we shouldn't let up and we should just keep going at them and give them a real beating. But I refuse to take any negatives away from this game. Before Yesterday we were a side lacking confidence, maybe the more confidence the side builds the more inclined they'll be to not relent against any side.

Spuds did actually try harder in that second period for a while tho, went more compact too, it kinda made sense for us to wait for the openings. It's a fine dividing line between instilling a philosophy of discipline and tactical change within a game and 'going for it' because it's there for the taking, in the situation we're in. I think he called it right in the end. But if you're a paying punter you'll not see it like that sat there

I think Tottenham only came out in the second half with the intent not to let us score 3 more, but since we didn't go for it they tried to get at least one back. Which was a little frustrating, but not worth going into details. Hopefully we can improve on that performance and whenever the time comes to finish off a game with should do it a little more convincingly and create some more chances. Other than that, I'm echoing the previous comments - best game of the season so far.

I agree with Marc that we should maybe have gone at them a bit more in the 2nd half. But then I understand us playing it calmly and controlling the game in a "professional way". When we let Spurs more time with the ball, it allowed us a few counter-attacking occasions, but we were never going to play an effective counter-attacking football with the players we had as we lacked pace. I think we would naturally have scored a couple more with more pace and being a bit more clinical.
But I will take as much positives as I can from that game. The Liverpool game will be difficult, a lot more physical and demanding. But I feel we can win it and outsmart Liverpool if the likes of Carrick/Herrera/Rooney/Blind/Mata are in a good form to make the ball move quickly and keep the ball off Liverpool's feet.

I think you are bring slight harsh Marc; yes our second half didn't meet the lofty heights of the first, but we did fashion a few decent chances, as well as a (wrongly) disallowed goal.
I think it was a sensible move to play the second half the way we did, we have some big games coming up, and it would be a disaster to pick up any needless injuries now. With our injury record this season is is best to play safe and play calmly if we have such a lead.
