Souness finishes with a superlative saying we were 'Fabulous!' (like a camp Italian fashion designer)... Hoddle says every player got a 9/10. I'll let them both off, took them long enough though!

Solid display. We may not have looked "brilliant" all the time, but tactically speaking, LVG has done it again. He has truly improved us massively in those big games, giving us a tactical advantage more often than not. Spurs were never going to trouble us today, after giving Chelsea and Arsenal a nightmare.
Well done to the lads too. My MOTM is definitely Carrick who makes us so strong at the back, playing that anchor role perfectly + one assist and one goal as a bonus. Followed closely by Rooney: how I love to see him play upfront. I can't even imagine how good he would be with an even better support, so much determination and aggressivity, it's like the Rooney of old time. Good game from Herrera whose relentlessness and positioning was a real problem for Spurs midfield. He did his job brilliantly, which was far from easy against Spurs combative cm.
Indeed Nemanja, Blind had a good game at LB. The whole team defended as a whole, therefore he could use clever positioning to counter the pace of Townsend or Chadli: it looked like a walk in the park for him. Great display by the lads.
But we need a bit more pace upfront next week if we want to trouble Liverpool imo. Is it to much to ask to get an in-form Di Maria?
Seriously though, Jones, can you learn how to make simple passes, please ?

Great first half, we were brilliant and they couldn't handle it. Great movement, link up play we had real confidence and when that first goal went in we were ruthless. Second half stepped of the gas and controlled the game beautifully. Best performance by far, apart from Jonesy's brain farts everyone put in a solid shift.

Yeah I'd echo the same sentiments. First half was exciting, forward thinking and dominant, the second half was professional and still dominant. Complete 90 minutes for me. Next week will be a bigger test but there's nothing like confidence to lead you into games like that. Being a bit of a wimp I'd take a draw against Liverpool right now if you offered it me but I'd love to beat them and deal them a major blow in the top 4 race.
Who knows.... we could still be 5 ahead of them going into that game as Swansea away tomorrow night for them is by no means a guaranteed win.
I agreed with Neville in terms of Fellaini being motm, he wasn't just causing problems with his size and physicality but even his movement and the positions he was taking up just caused them havoc in that opening 35 minutes. Everyone was superb though...Rooney, Carrick, Young, Herrera.. all class. Mata was top quality as well, I worried about his starting position at the start of the game but he was involved alot in the first half, he seems to have a wonderful understanding with Herrera as well, Spanish telepathy.

Course, confidence and a positive mindset makes a world of difference. Also the tactics when you have the former in place, along with van Gaal's 4-3-3. No number 10 role (relying just on one player to create) but a false 9 (Rooney) and SS (Fellaini in a lot of situations) ie supporting striker which has a different role than a classic No.10.
Mata has acted in two roles from one position (wide forward), supported by Valencia and Herrera brilliantly. Off the ball movement and creating triangles is what made a lot of space for the players to act accordingly. I was talking exactly about this earlier when the chat was about "how you make space in the middle." That first half was a perfect example of this, I didn't believe I'll see it from us this season.
More of the same now, but I'm afraid we could be taking a bit cautious approach at Anfield. It wouldn't be bad if we switch on a classic 4-5-1 and hit them on the counter through the flanks. Blind, Young, Herrera and Mata could be vital for this.

Next week will be a bigger test but there's nothing like confidence to lead you into games like that. I agree. Everyone has summed this game up very well, so not much for me to add. I thought we were fantastic, especially in that first half. Second half we did what we had to; controlled the game whilst making sure we didn't let them find a way back into the game. The result was very very important, and the attacking intent and execution was absolutely brilliant to see. We all needed a performance like that, it was refreshing and it couldn't have come at a better time. Spurs were dire, however we contributed to their appalling performance. A very good performance, and a vital result. I'm very happy with it As for the Liverpool game, we will need to raise the intensity and if we do then I'm confident we can get a win. A draw would also do us well, however I feel we can beat them. Here's hoping for a Swansea win(a draw between the two wouldn't be bad mind) tomorrow, it could play a big role. I'm already nervous, but I cannot wait. I've probably missed a big talking point out, I'm tired.

Carrick showed today that Blind still has a bit of a way to go before he takes that holding role away from him. Not surprised by the Mata stat either, thought he influenced the first half really well.

MOTD giving us praise and good analysis Sounds like LVG wants to play 433 so it will be interesting to see what happens when RVP comes back, will he leave him out.

Yeah, all 3 were fantastic. Trying to find some stats for Fellaini, Squawka doesn't have it but I'm sure it's impressive in some aspect.
