Yes I did, but I don't judge players on one game basis or a couple for that matter, or in di Maria's case, couple of months if you consider everything that happened around him. If he's the same next season then fair play. Still, in such a crap season for him, he managed 4 goals and 13 assists. That's quite telling I think. But if he is unhappy in United I wouldn't hold him back if he wants out. |

Van Gaal pretty much said in his presser that he's going to be signing another right sided holding midfielder in the summer, as we can't solely rely on Carrick.
On Michael Carrick, who miss the final three games of the season: "When you see the stats, it's clear that he's very important but that's also because we have only one right-sided holding midfielder.
"Our selection is not balanced and I want to restore that in the next transfer period. The life is not ending at 34, but for a professional football player, it's close by. That's why I have to handle again in that position."

Pogba could do any midfield role, buy one Pogba and you've got cover for the rest of the midfield - provided he stays fit. I thought we needed just one Pogba but I think we need two midfielders now, a DM and box to box driving CM. At least to make effective challenges on all fronts.

I'd like to see us promote someone from the Youth instead of buying 2 cm's. Pogba would be that beast of a box to box cm that we need but as Edwood says could provide cover for all of midfield if needs be. I'd still like to see Ben Pearson given a shot in the first team squad next season as back up for holding midfield, I still think he has a lot to offer.

Is he still on loan? If not then hopefully he could get some game time at Hull if it's wrapped up at the weekend.
Two CM's would be the ideal and the way that LVG has been talking I think we'll get that, holding mid/eventual Carrick replacement and a more creative box to box to cover all roles and upgrade on Fellaini. We shall see, we'd cope with just one though and a youth could get their chance.

Pearson should be back now as Barnsley aren't in the playoffs or anything. He was a regular starter for them and they think quite highly of him. I know it's only league 1 but it's his first experience of first team football and he can only perform for the club he's at. Even if we do sign 2 midfielders in the summer I'd be keeping him around. Hopefully he goes on the pre-season tour and impresses.
I'll be interested to see what part the loanees play next season and by that I mean the English guys like Lingard and James. Both were given new contracts so you'd imagine they may play some part next season especially with more matches to play.

As much as Fellaini or Blind have been helpful, we all know we need more quality if we want to match the best teams in Europe. Right now Carrick and Herrera are the only ones who are truly up there with the best. |
