he has been a great servant to the club throughout the years, just riddled with injury, its quiet sad really cause if his health was good he would have easily been our best CM ahead of Carrick until this season

it would have been close in all honesty. carrick, apart from the wonder season and a bit, was distinctively above average-good in all departments (jack of all trades, master of none)

Fletcher's one of those weird cases in football where an extended absence seems to greatly increase their reputation. In 08/09 and 09/10 he became a very good player for us but apart from an 18 month period around then he wasn't first choice at any time and he's endured dog's abuse from sections of the fans throughout his career.
Somehow being suspended in Rome also managed to elevate him well above his standing as well.
He's been a good player for us and you don't play that many games at this level if you don't have a bit about you but I don't think there's any doubt that sympathy for him as person has clouded the judgement of him from an actual footballing point of view.

Yeah, as I said earlier in the thread, think of the way Cleverley was treated the last few years, for much of Fletcher's career he received just as bad if not worse criticism for most of his United career. He was an important player for a period of time but in the same way I think about Park, he was never much more than a work horse. Important but not great.
